Welcome

Sunshine Coast hinterland

Gallery Trail Discover the remarkable variety of galleries and talented local artists. There is something about the Sunshine Coast hinterland that seems to inspire people. Whether it’s the climate, the sweeping views, the atmospheric ‘villages’ dotted about or the people – this is a special, creative place. Artistic talent can be seen virtually everywhere you look. From ‘Strangler Cairn,’ Andy Goldsworthy’s huge egg sculpture in Conondale National Park, to the wealth of art galleries across the range, to local markets and viewings in artists’ personal studios.

To help visitors on their journey of artistic discovery here, the hinterland has its own Gallery Trail. A day (or even better, a week) could encompass exhibitions, viewings and classes in many mediums, each with its own haracter and depth. Enjoy contemporary art, photography, silk painting, sculpture, glass art, quilting, papermaking, jewellery, Aboriginal art, pottery, wood craft, watercolours and oils, performance art... the list goes on. There is something for everyone, whatever your taste or budget.

So, if you would like to see pieces by nationally and internationally recognised artists, whilst also savouring the work of local talented artists, this could be the perfect answer. It has been said that the hinterland is ‘the soul of the Sunshine Coast’ - once you take the Gallery Trail, you will probably agree.

4 Sunshine Coast Hinterland Gallery Trail 2015

Based in the tranquil Hinterland town of Kenilworth, Lasting Impressions Gallery has over almost 3 decades established a reputation as one of the region's leading fine art gallery. For many visitors to the Hinterland Lasting Impressions has become a 'must see' destination.

Focussing on paintings from a stable of renowned and award-winning artists it also offers select glass and ceramic art including by internationally acclaimed glass artist Brian Hirst and equally famous ceramic artists Avital Sheffer and Amanda Shelsher.

The gallery's curatorial policy aims at the genuine art collector as well as catering for clients seeking 'just the right painting' for their home.

The gallery's annual exhibition schedule and images of all available paintings can be viewed on its website.

Solo exhibitions to the end of this year include Lyn Diefenbach's vibrant florals in both oil and pastels which opens on Sunday, 14th September at 11am. Large to medium sized photo-realistic paintings convey the joy Lyn finds in the blossoms of our native as well as introduced flora. Her mastery of the subject has earned her acclaim at home as well as the United States and her work is featured in a number of national and international publications.

From 26th October to 9th November, the gallery will host a long-awaited solo exhibition by Sunshine Coast artist Pam Walpole. Motivated by the dramatic and varied scenery of our continent, Pam’s work captures the images of floods, deserts and rock formations so characteristic of Australia in her typically fluid and confident style. A recent trip to the Pilbara inspired her to create a series of works portraying the iron ore country with its glowing red soil and bizarre landscape incorporating actual pieces of iron. These will feature prominently in her show next to a body of work prompted by lyrical impressions of pools and flowing water – contrasting the other extreme.

Lisa Powell, who had worked part time for the De’Lisles since 1987, is now the full time manager of the Montville Art Gallery.

More than thirty established and emerging artists most of whom live and work in South East Queensland, are represented by the gallery.

Home to some of Australia’s most original contemporary artists, our philosophy is simple: to offer patrons the very best in fine art, whilst developing the careers of our artists.

We have an eclectic mix of modern landscape, figurative and abstract painting, prints, ceramics, glass, sculpture and jewellery, predominately produced by local artists.

Located in a rainforest setting under the Poets Cafe in Montville on the Sunshine Coast, the gallery welcomes you to view our current exhibition.

Gallery Owner & Director Ron Geyl A patron of Fine Arts and prominent local business owner Ron Geyl custom designed and built ‘Main Street Gallery’ downstairs, and the associated ‘Poets Cafe’ upstairs in the 1990’s. A passionate supporter of the Arts, and of the unique qualities of the Montville Village experience, Ron Geyl has helped to define Montville’s well loved strong village identity. Ron welcomes local, interstate and overseas visitors into the thoughtfully designed Buildings and traditional vil-lage street-scape, of which he is justifiably proud. As a visitor destination, Montville is unique in QLD. Our valued clients here can enjoy great hospitality, and fine arts, all within the same purpose built complex, nestled into the rainforest. Supporting the gallery through a new direction, the established Main Street Gallery is now being bought up-to-date with dynamic contemporary exhibitions.

Gallery Manager Carolyn Prince B.Ed (Hons) Now proudly managing Main St Gallery, selecting from our local, regional & notable interstate artists - sourcing and presenting to you the best in contemporary quality Art & Design, all in this unique rainforest gallery setting.

Experience a Secret..... our art gallery was built to showcase not only our artists’ creations but also bring a little of the outside landscape and foliage into the space by way of huge picture windows with views towards Lake Baroon. The space is a work of art in itself! Complimenting the paintings and sculpture, is a great range of gift ideas: cards, jewellery, candles, books, handmade pens and collectables.

One of our feature artists is Lindsay Muir who has been a favourite of Secrets on the Lake years before the gallery was built. You will find his framed wall hangings in all of our treehouses incorporating the themes of each treehouse in his work. His ceramic sculptures of frogs on leaves are delightful and intricate, with an great eye for detail, his work is highly sought after with our gallery and accommodation guests.

Peta Boyce is a talented painter of birdlife, with shaded hues in the background and detailed images of some of our local birds, seemingly representing every feather and gleam in their eyes. Peta supplies us with beautifully framed prints of her paintings which loses none of the beauty of the images but is a more affordable way of hanging her artworks on your wall.

Siggi Cairns is one of our jewellery creators with a wide rage of colourful beaded bracelets, necklaces and earrings. She also makes very unique kimino jewellery where she stitches the fabric into beads to create wearable works of art.

All of our artists are from the Maleny – Montville area, we are proud to display such talent and exhibit a variety of styles and genres something to appeal to everyone.

Adjacent to the gallery is our Secrets Café, the perfect place to grab a quick coffee or lunch before you browse our gallery’s paintings, sculptures, ceramics and glass pieces. Why don’t you spend a morning....

Art on Cairncross is situated 5 kms east of Maleny en route to Mary Cairncross Park and spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains. The gallery displays fine art by leading and emerging artists from the region and across Australia and has become renowned for the diversity and calibre of artworks.

The natural beauty of this area has attracted many artists over the years and is also an ideal setting for showcasing finely crafted works of art. Paintings and drawings (from the studios of such as Rex Backhaus-Smith, Kevin Oxley, Nan Paterson, Judith Laws, Tom McAulay, Jim Kinch and Tony Lewis amongst others) are complemented by exceptional porcelain (Johanna De Maine), hand-blown glass (Marc Kalifa), bronze and marble sculpture (Craig Medson and Rhyl Hinwood), ceramics (Rowley Drysdale, Ann O’Connor and James L. Peterson) and even unique leather mask sculptures (Michael Taylor). There are also smaller original pieces such as hand-painted silk scarves and little bronze animals, which are perfect for gifts, but the emphasis for everything remains on quality.

Gallery directors Tony Gill and Jane Caraffi have established an excellent reputation for service, including safe packing, shipping and insuring of artworks worldwide, but closer to home they personally visit homes or businesses, so that art can be viewed in situ. Long-standing relationships with the artists allow the directors to access even more work than can be displayed and find just the right piece for the right place. Tony and Jane have often found corporate gifts, ensuring that the correct impression is made through thoughtful choices and presentation, but within budget. Throughout the year they hold exhibitions and events, (details about which can be found on the gallery website), which make each visit to the gallery a new experience.

The delight of an art gallery should be the feeling of a happy discovery. Art on Cairncross has clients from across the globe who consider this a ‘must see’ whenever they are on the Sunshine Coast. The visit can encompass more than fine art, as the gallery is surrounded by wonderful restaurants, has ample parking and proximity to the rainforest walk in the scenic reserve. A perfect destination to feed the soul and to experience happy discoveries time and time again.

Situated in the heart of Maleny, is the beautifully appointed Gary Myers Gallery and Gift Shop. The gallery, upstairs in the Maleny Community Centre, is arguably the best vantage point to view the eclectic main street. The Gallery, which Gary uses as his paint-ing studio, showcases his vibrant and varied artworks. Gary has been established in the Maleny art gallery scene since 1990 and in this newly appointed space since November 2013. His family’s history in Maleny dates back to 1905.

Paintings, jewelery, ceramics and a range of exquisite craft items are also featured by a select group of local and internationally-acclaimed artists.

Gary’s art is immediately identifiable as Australian, with a deep connection to the outback and a passion for the history of Australia. His style is unique, providing glimpses of larrikinism that abandon the traditional norms of landscape painting. He has held over 30 successful solo exhibitions and his artworks are highly sought after throughout Austral-ia as well as by overseas collectors. His engaging interpretation of the Australian landscape has led to overseas exhibitions; in Brighton, England and in Shanghai, China.Currently he is exhibiting on a regular basis with Kevin Hill as one of his Top Ten Australian Artists and is a visiting tutor at the Sydney Art School.

Gary has competed and attained awards in many art competitions spanning the last 40 years. Most recently Gary has been a finalist in the prestigious Hornsby Art Prize and the Sunshine Coast Art Prize.

When not out in the field sketching or painting in the studio, Gary sustains a busy schedule either exhibiting or working for charitable organisations as a featured artist. As a well-recognised Australian artist, his work has been acquired for private, corporate and educational institution collections in Australia and overseas.

Gary was born in Brisbane where he received private art tuition under the late Da-vid Fowler. After an early career as a cartographer, Gary spent time as an illustrator and other related work in the graphics industry. This training and involvement is evident in his use of colour and composition. His extensive travels have given Gary a love of the Australian Outback that has been the central theme for his artwork for over four dec-
