Glasgow, a Cityof Sports

Glasgow has a long sporting history, with theworld's first international football match held in 1872 at the West of Scotland Cricket Club's Hamilton Crescent ground in the Partick areaof Glasgow. The city is also home to Scotland's largest football stadia: Celtic Park with 60,355 seats.

Glasgow also boasts a professional rugby union team, the Glasgow Warriors, which play in the Celtic League alongside teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games were held in Glasgow, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. It was the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland with around 4,950 athletes from 71 different nations and territories competing in 18 different sports.

Celtic's home ground is Celtic stadium is Celtic Park, whichis in the Parkhead area of Glasgow. Celtic Park, an all-seaterstadium with a capacity of 60,355 is the largest football stadium in Scotland and the seventh largest stadium in the United Kingdom.

Celtic have won the Scottish League Championship on 47 occasions, most recently in the 2015–16 season, the Scottish Cup 36 times and the Scottish League Cup 15 times. The club's greatest season was 1966–67, when Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, also winning the Scottish League Championship, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup, and the Glasgow Cup. Celtic also reached the 1970 European Cup Final, and the 2003 UEFA Cup Final.

Rangers's homeground is Ibrox Stadium, which is in the south-west of the city. Ibrox Stadium is the third largest football stadium in Scotland, having an all-seated capacity of 50,817. Rangers play in the Scottish Premiership, the first tierof the Scottish Professional Football League.

Rangers have won more league titles and trebles than any other club in the world, winning the league title 54 times, the Scottish Cup 33 times and the Scottish League Cup 27 times, and achieving the treble of all three in the same season seven times. Rangers were the first British club to reach a UEFA tournament final and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972 after being runner-up twice in 1961 and 1967. A third runners-up finish in Europe came in the UEFA Cup in 2008.

Glasgow is a major centre of higher and academicresearch with 6 universities, 4 of which are within 10 miles of the city centre. City Investments& Developments

Recognised as a city with sound investment potential, Glasgow is one of the UK’s cities that have been targeted by the real estate fund ‘Best Value UK I’. Glasgow’s retail market grows year on year and a number of expansions and refurbishments are either underway or recently completed.

The Glasgow City Region City Deal, worth �1.44 billion (1.13 billion GBP) are seeking to lever �4.2 billion (3.3 billion GBP) of private investment, this will provide a once-in-a-generation investment into the city region infrastructure over the next 20 years with a pipeline of major infrastructure programmes.

People Make Glasgow HomeIn 2015, in response to the city’s growing population and to support our thriving economy and inward investment offer, Glasgow City Council launched a new housing strategy, People Make Glasgow Home, committing to building 25,000 new homes in the next 10 years period.

Key areas of this strategy include: land release for the development of affordable homes, helping first-time buyers to access mortgages, turning empty shops into housing, releasing 20 sites for development by housing associations in the first year of the strategy and developing sites for self and custom-build houses.
