We’re delighted to be able to unveil a little project we’ve been working on with the lovely ladies at Niche Brands. We hope you love it.

We’ve been exhibiting at the biggest and best country and equestrian events for over 20 years and, during this time, we’ve made lots of friends and seen lots of lovely things. And we wanted to share a bit of our world with you in this journal.

This issue has been produced with Badminton in mind as it’s an event we look forward to each year. At this event, our brand new EXCLUSIVE Cherry Roller Necklaces will be available to buy and admire and, just to make this year’s event extra special, our very own sponsored rider, Emily King, will be competing for the first time. We’ll also have new products in this year’s Colour of the Year, gorgeous new equestrian and country designs and lots of lovely pieces with a ‘Touch of Gold’.

Please enjoy our journal, come and see us on our stand at Badminton and don’t forget to enter the superb competition we’re running with the lovely people at Fairfax & Favor. If you’d like a chance to bag yourself a pair of their Imperial Explorers AND one of our Exclusive Cherry Roller Necklaces, just follow the link in the journal page 14.

We hope to see you at Badminton!

Emily King has eventing in her blood. In fact, she completed her first event before she was born as her mother, eventing legend Mary, competed (and won team gold and individual bronze) in the European Championships in 1995 when she was five and a half months pregnant with Emily. This was just the start of Emily’s life with horses.

In more recent times, Emily has become a very successful eventer in her own right. 2015 saw Emily really come to the fore with a third place at Chatsworth CIC3*, fifth and sixth in the under 21 class at Houghton Hall CCI2*, fifth in the under-25 CCI3* at Bramham and second in the CIC3* in Ballindenisk. She also won team gold in the young rider European Championships and completed her first four-star, taking fourth place at Pau. This year is set to be just as big with Emily making her Badminton debut on Brookleigh.

Emily is sponsored by Hiho Silver. Here are a few snaps taken from a recent shoot with Jake Eastham at Forde Abbey.

As it is that time of year again, where the sun is beginning to shine for longer and the days get warmer, it is a great time to start enjoying those days out. Here at Niche Brands, we believe that a lovely way to make the most of the sunshine is to eat good food and spend some quality time with family and friends – it is, after all, picnic time.

Whether or not you or your loved ones enjoy a variety of food, or have a specific taste, picnics cater for everyone and can also make lots of fun whilst you prepare it, buy it and, of course, eat it. Here are few picnic ideas that you can try out when you next have your summertime picnic.

If it is a warm day, your usual salmon or tuna sandwiches may not be the best idea as the heat may induce a rather unpleasant fishy smell; however, this does not mean you have to steer away from fish altogether – small sumptuous jars of caviar and Gentleman’s Relish are amazing assets to your picnic basket, and they can be bought in individual sizes.

As well as this, it cannot be a picnic without a little treat or snack for everyone to enjoy. There are many different flavours and types of chocolate out there for you to try including Madagascan Gold Chocolate. If, however, it is very hot but you would still like that sweet edge, packs of biscuits such as Shortbread Fingers are just as delicious.

Seeing as it is getting warmer, don’t let your sandwiches fill you with fear because they may be too warm or the filling will no longer be edible. A good way to overcome this, and to stop you from feeling too full, will be to try including some lighter, cooler options that are gorgeous to eat no matter how hot it may be. Cucumber and Watercress Sandwiches are delectable to eat but also leave you feeling bright, refreshed and ready for the rest of the day instead of feeling overheated.

Grab Your Wicker Baskets, it’s Picnic Time!

If you don’t have time to make a picnic, some shops have pre-packaged picnic hampers which will let you enjoy the day without any fuss. Fortnum and Mason, Handmade Hampers and M&S all have hampers that you can choose from, allowing you to enjoy the taste of good food. Such hampers usually include spreads, sweets and treats as well as beverages, being either tea or alcoholic, making it perfect for anyone.

Everybody enjoys eating outside and a sunny Country Show is greatly enhanced by a delicious picnic - have a great Summer!

Uses For A Shepherd’s Hut10

In recent years, Shepherd’s Huts have made a huge impact in the accommodation and amazing spaces market. Allowing people to escape from busy cities, a Shepherd’s Hut provides a perfect place to unwind and relax...or to inspire your working day. Below are some suggestions for your shepherd hut spaces.

Shepherd’s Huts are probably most well-known for being a great place to enjoy the countryside, but they also allow you to enjoy the luxurious things. Glamping is camping, but with style, meaning that you don’t have to worry about conserving your battery life on your phone, because electricity is perfect-ly acceptable. Within a hut, you would have all the essentials you would normally expect from your usual hotel and more, as some even include stoves to cook on. Glamping in a fully fitted turnkey Shepherd’s Hut from Blackdown Shepherd Huts, al-lows you to create a luxurious 5* experience.

A perfect example of this is, Dimpsey Glamping. They have won many awards for their stunning 5* glamping retreat and it all started with a hut from Blackdown Shepherd Huts.

Glamping Retreat

Most people like having a dedicated working area so they can get into the right frame of mind to work efficiently. Shepherd’s Huts are perfect for this seeing as they can give you that quiet environment so you can think clearly whilst still enjoying all the comforts of home.

Home/Garden OfficeAs a writer, being relaxed is essential to creativity. Imagine sitting in a beautiful-ly decorated hut, with a mug of hot tea from the stove, writing your very first novel.

Writer’s Nook

Much like the writer’s nook, artists can use a Shepherd’s Hut in order to create the perfect atmosphere to work in. Shepherd’s Huts have beautiful windows creating natural light, meaning that you are able to see many views which may end up on your canvas. It also means you can keep all of your tools, brushes, canvases in one place too. Perfect.

Artist’s Den

9

Blackdown Shepherd Huts have created the ‘Towby’ hut which is a towable hut, perfectly kitted out for catering. You will see many of their huts at festivals, fayres and other large events as their distinctive look stands out. Also, because they are towable you can travel across the country and cook up wonders for the awaiting crowds and store any food awaiting preparation for your customers.

Catering Hut

Whatever size hut you buy, they can work amazingly well as a li-brary as you have so much room to be able not only to store your books but also to relax on a sofa or laying in bed whilst reading them. Drift away into a good book today!

Booklover’s LibraryUsing a Shepherd’s Hut for a Beauty Salon is a lovely idea because not only will it be easier to have more of a one-to-one relationship with your customer, but it gives you plenty of room to store all of your supplies. Set it up as a vintage style salon or bring it up to a modern style. The choice is yours. No matter whether you offer manicures or facials, a Shepherd’s Hut can be perfect as either a stat-ic or of course, portable beauty salon.

If you need a base to upload your photos, or need more places to take photos from, a hut can give you the space to not only have photography as a hobby but also as a business. Especially good as a wildlife hide, you can place your hut in the perfect place for those hard to shoot wildlife shots.

Photographer

If your big day is ahead of you, hav-ing a Shepherd’s Hut to get ready in is a delightful way to get ready with a touch of luxury. It is also a beautiful backdrop to your wedding photos, or a great idea for a bride. A great idea for a bridal make up artist, wedding photographer or wedding venue as a prep room. A venue could also have a Shepherd’s Hut as a honeymoon stop over for the wedding night.

Wedding Delights

Beauty Salon

If you need somewhere to simply find yourself again, a hut in the countryside is perfect to practice Yoga or Reiki as you will not be disturbed and can then enjoy the still out-doors.

Mind, Body & Soul

If the idea of being in a Shepherd’s Hut is something that pleases you, you can either buy your own or you can choose to retreat to one for that little time to simply unwind. Blackdown Shepherd Huts make and deliver their huts to order, or if you prefer to indulge your artisan side, you can purchase their self-build hut and build your very own shepherd’s hut. Visit Blackdown Shep-herd’s Hut at Badminton - Beaufort Way, stand 263.

Exclusive Hiho Cherry Roller

Hiho Silver’s Exclusive Cherry Roller Snaffle Collection has expanded to include two new styles of necklace. Both are set to make their tradestand debut at Badminton Horse Trials.

“The Cherry Roller Bangle has been a real hit since it first hit the shelves at Burghley last year,” said Emma Warren from Hiho Silver. “We knew it was a lovely design, and we’re really pleased with how it has been received. Customers asked us for other pieces in the same design, so we got to work and took a prototype to Olympia. We’ve used all the feedback to create two necklaces that are available in sterling silver and sterling silver with 18ct rose or yellow gold plating.”

There are two necklaces in the range. The Exclusive Cherry Roller Snaffle Necklace has a 35mm long cherry roller with five free moving beads. This is suspended on a strong double chain that loops through the bit rings either side and back to a sturdy Italian made lobster claw clasp. For those who like a chunkier chain, the Exclusive Classic Cherry Roller Snaffle Necklace is ideal with a 46mm long cherry roller and chunky handmade Belcher chain leading up to an Italian made clasp.

We wanted to do something that reflected our equestrian heritage and would enable us to show the design flair we have within the busi-ness.

We looked at a number of options before settling on the Cherry Roller and designed our first Cherry Roller Bangle - we felt that it retained the look and feel of our popular snaffle bracelet, whilst adding the ad-ditional element of the beads, giving a different look and feel to the bracelet. It wasn’t an easy piece to design! But we were really pleased with how it turned out.

The Cherry Roller jewellery range is the first ever to incorporate this bit as a design, so these are really unique pieces for our customers.Made by the most talented silversmiths, our designs have rollers, which alternate between gold plated sterling silver and sterling silver, and comes with the Hiho promise that if the gold plate wears, Hiho will re-plate it at nominal cost.

Another thing that makes the Cherry Roller extra special is that it’s a Hiho exclusive, so you won’t get it anywhere else.

Unique classical Silver pieces with a quirky twist to take you through the day, from mucking out to going out!

Girls with Guns...

Femmes Fatales

Who are you? We’re an online community of girls who love to shoot clays, launched just two years ago with the aim of encouraging more women and girls to try the sport. Femmes Fatales is run entirely by volunteers. We’re trying to challenge the common misconception that shooting is a ‘posh pursuit’ for men!

What’s it all about? We’re simply sharing our love of clay shooting, trying to get our message across to ladies outside of existing shooting circles using social media as well as trying to get the sport noticed by the national media. Our appearance on BBC 1’s Countryfile in August is something we’re especially proud of.

How many members do you have? We currently have nearly 7,000 members and it’s growing every day. It’s free to become a member, simply sign up at www.femmes-fatales.co.uk

What makes you special and different? We’re not a business, we’re simply a group of women who are passionate about making the sport more accessible to more people. Each of us volunteers their spare time to provide more opportunities, at as many venues as possible for women to try the sport and meet new people. Also, Femmes Fatales only shoot clay pigeons. We don’t organise or promote any live game shooting as we realise that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, particularly women who don’t have a countryside background.

Can anyone have a go? Yes! That’s one of the many beauties of this sport - anyone can do it, regardless of age, physical fitness, or gender. Obviously our events are for women only, as some can feel a bit intimidated stepping in to what’s generally considered a ‘mans domain’ but we like to think we’re just a stepping-stone for women to then go on and shoot on a regular basis, at events and venues that are open to all.

What kind of costs are involved? National Ladies’ Shooting DayThis game changing event is back for its second year and is set to engage more women to get out clay shooting. Costing just £39.50 will take place on 11 June at 25 different locations across the UK, from Dundee to Sussex. By holding the event at multiple locations, the ladies only day has been made accessible to as many women as possible. The event, said to be the biggest female only clay shooting event in the World is sponsored by Browning Guns, Alan Paine and Hiho Silver. Browning have generously donated a B525 shotgun to give away on the day to one lucky licence holder and Hiho are giving away over £2,000 worth of stunning sporting jewellery. National Ladies’ Shooting Day welcomes women with all levels of experience including complete beginners. In fact, Founder of The Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club, Victoria Knowles-Lacks wants to see more women come and try their hand at clay pigeon shooting for the first time, it’s the perfect opportunity for both total newbies or experienced shots who are looking for a good fun day out and the chance to meet new like minded shooting buddies, whilst being in with a chance of winning some great prizes.Established in 2015, National Ladies’ Shooting Day’s mission is to bring women together and get them out clay shooting. Last year the event saw 1,086 women attend at 22 different locations which is a fantastic result for a first time event, but the club hope to surpass this figure this year. With fully qualified instructors who will show participants the ropes, the price of the event will also include gun hire, 30 cartridges, 30 clays and ear and eye protection, so there will be no hidden or surprise costs on the day. Entry also includes a place in the raffle, which has some excellent prizes from well known shooting companies.

There’s an amazing array of equine equipment available at the moment – whether you’re a fan of ‘matchy matchy’ or prefer a more classic look, you’ll find some amazing products at any horse show. Here, we’ve taken a look at some less conventional products that might catch your eye and focus on why the horse would want to have these in his life…

We’ve found saddle pads that remove pressure from key areas, saddles that facilitate better shoulder movement, headpieces that reduce poll pressure, rugs that provide massage across the whole of the horse’s body, and more besides.

At places like Badminton, not only are amazing equestrian innovations seen on the stands, but you’ll see many superb products in action during the three phases too, to inspire you for the season ahead.

1. Grand Prix Headpiece, Kate Negus Saddlery, £105 or £115 for Double, Stand 176

2. HiWither Saddlepads and Numnahs, NuuMed, from £33, Stand 134

3. Activo-Med Combi Pro, FMBs Therapy Systems, Price depends on the exact

system but hire costs are £125 per week, World of the Horse Marquee

4. ‘’Body Ionic’’ Massage Brush, The Oxford Brush Company, £29.95, Stand 143

5. WOW Saddles, from £2500, World of the Horse Marquee

6. Rambo Ionic Stable Sheet, Horseware, 148.00, visit one of the authorised Horse-

ware Retailers at Badminton

1. The Grand Prix Headpiece has a wide, padded bearing surface and a carefully thought out shape that reduces pressure on the poll and behind the ears. It also has integral noseband hangers that allow the noseband to be buckled straight onto the headpiece to further reduce poll pressure.

7. The Bug Body protects poll to tail including belly from biting insects, flies, UV rays, dust and showers whilst keeping your horse cool, comfortable & clean! Optional extras include Head, Udder Cover, Sheath Cover & Legs.

5. WOW Saddles’ patented carbon fibre tree flexes laterally. This means that it rotates with the horse’s shoulder movement giving complete freedom and comfort. The benefits are clearly seen in longer strides and greater lift in the shoulder over fences.

3. The rug combines pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and massage in one product that works on the horse from poll to tail including shoulder and thigh areas. It can be used to improve suppleness, muscle tone and overall con-dition as well as to support performance and rehab. Used by the horses of William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell, Nicola Wilson and more.

4. The body ionic brush supports your striving for physical and spiritual wellbeing, as the massage with this brush provides an energetic synthesis. Just three minutes a day is all you need to revitalise and relax and to stim-ulate the circulation. Positive ions restrict the energy supply to the body from outside. Therefore an energy balance by negative charged ions (anions) should be established.

2. The HiWither shape removes pressure from across the withers and behind the saddle for improved comfort, fit and freedom. Many products are available with half and full wool linings too, and with wool absorbing up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, it’ll help to keep the horse dry and comfort. All products are machine washable.

6. Negative Ions for positive results. The inner fabric of the rug is printed with the powdered form of a crystal called Tourmaline. Tourmaline releases Negative Ions, increasing blood flow to im-portant areas such as muscles.

A day in the life of Jake & Lou Eastham Photographers ExtraordinaireJake Eastham previously worked in farming, tree care and conservation, but now focuses his appreciation and understanding of the traditions and beauty of the British countryside through his work as a photographer. Based in Wiltshire, though regularly traveling throughout the UK and overseas, his approach is to capture the elements, details and textures of country life with a natural and honest aesthetic.Well known for his eye-catching and stunning photography, we thought it would be great to share the steps that happen behind the scenes to capture great shots…and as he and his stylist wife, Lou, recently did a shoot at Forde Abbey in Somerset for Hiho Silver, it seemed like a good one to take you through.

Well before the day of the shoot, Lou spends time getting to know the client and what they are trying to achieve from the photo shoot. Gently encouraging, but eminently sensible, Lou’s no-nonsense approach helps to sort the wheat out from the chaff and is a key part of why the shoot is successful. She then builds a pinterest mood board and shares it as private mood board with the client to further hone down the vision for the day.

Further emails and phone calls helped to hone down the likely areas to shoot in and potential props required, Forde Abbey has so many beautiful places for photographs that we left the final selection until Jake and Lou had a walk round on the day – after we had all arrived packhorse-like, bearing tons of paraphernalia and props! We had written a schedule of the jewellery we wanted to photograph on the day, and knew that Eventer Emily King and Rachel from the Hiho stand were arriving at 2pm to model for us – so the timetable was product shots in the morning and people shots in the afternoon.

Lou was brilliantly, but beautifully, bossy - moving things along and gently suggesting things to shoot to Jake – who was quietly snapping away, capturing some fantastic stills. Lou was careful to check in here and there with us to make sure that we were happy with the look being developed for us – we were and we were more than happy to let the experts get on with their jobs!

The afternoon shots were in the amazing Kitchen Garden and Stables at Forde Abbey, who really did us proud yielding up amazing locations and being brilliantly hospitable to our scurrying around with props and cameras.

Nell, our horse model, arrived beautifully primped and preened and she, and the beautiful Emily and Rachel were fabulous models for the afternoon – the shots on this page being testament to their modelling and the excellent photographer and stylist.

All too soon, the very busy day ended and we all loaded up the boots of our cars and headed off to our homes for a well-deserved cuppa (and a gin or tonic here and there!).

Once the initial editing was done, a gallery was shared for us to review and once all the reviews and formalities were completed, the photos were ready to go…Hiho Silver away!

So a final couple of questions for the Easthams and Hiho…

Jake & Lou…what really helps you to get some good shots for the client? We are very lucky to work with such creative clients making great looking products but the other key factors for a successful shoot are the location, the light and the time spent listening to our clients before the shoot so that we understand what look they want us to capture on the day. It also really helps having tea and biscuits which Hiho supplied in abundance.

Hiho…it seems like Jake and Lou really managed to capture the essence of you as a brand – why do you think that was?Well, they took the time to get to know us, listened to what we wanted and then overlaid their experience onto it helping us to pick out the bits that really would yield a good shoot and represent us well as a brand – they have definitely helped us move forward as a brand and we look forward to working with them again soon.

When you come home from, whether it be your job or dropping your children off to school, allow some time for yourself to recu-perate and gather your thoughts. Drinking a hot beverage does not only help you to relax, but it also refreshes you, giving you hydra-tion energy to be able to carry on throughout the day. Herbal teas are best as they not only have healing benefits but also help you to in-dulge in yourself for a while. Green tea from Clipper Organic Tea – will offer you a refreshing hug in a mug as well as detoxifying you, so you will feel bright and breezy in no time.

The tons of tasks and endless errands each of us must complete each day can completely wear you out. Therefore, it is simply a must to take some time out regularly for you, and just you. With many different ways you can relax, you are sure to be able to find that one thing that makes each day that little bit less stressful.

Finding your favourite tea is great, but don’t forget about the process of making it too. Taking time to make your perfect cup of tea all adds to your relaxation. Perhaps it is time to buy yourself a teapot so you can brew your loose tea to the way that you like it: Doris and Co have beautiful teapots and mugs which are not only made of stern stuff so you know they won’t break, but also will show you that you are ‘Made of Stern Stuff’ as these whimsical and emotive mantras are printed on each piece.

As well as drinking tea, after a long day, why not treat yourself to a bath and soothe yourself. Organic Trevarno Skincare are known for their wonderful bath oils that help you to unwind. Their Chamomile and Lavender Bath Oil is ideal to help you relax as both herbs are known for the soothing qualities, allowing you to relax and helping your muscles to ease. In addition to helping you to relax, this bath oil also serves as a moisturizer, leaving you feeling softer and rejuvenated inside and out.

There are times when you simply cannot escape for a while, which hinder us from being able to then take that time to complete-ly relax; however, this does not mean that you have to stop treating yourself to that self-indulging moment. If stress levels are rising and you can’t get away, closing your eyes and thinking of something that makes you happy for even 10 seconds can com-pletely change your mind set and help you to carry on until you can get home and rest fully.

It is time to start thinking about you, so get comfy, grab something to drink and lose yourself in a good book and in no time, you will be ready for whatever is to come.

See Icarus soar at Badminton Horse Trials!

We’re very excited to be able to share news of a new launch at Badminton, from Hiho friend Belinda Sillars. If you came to our Burghley stand last year, you may have noticed the beautiful boards around the stand featuring paintings by Belinda. They received such interest from our customers that we thought you might like to find out more about this incredibly talented lady and what she has planned for Badminton…

Born amid the beautiful countryside of Suffolk England, Belinda was surrounded by animals from birth and began riding as soon as she could sit up. Her flair for creativity soon became apparent when, as a child, she frequently drew and painted pictures of horses and dogs from the age of three. Today, Belinda is an award winning sculptor who’s regarded as one of the best equestrian and wildlife sculptors worldwide. Her ability to capture the movement and character of her subjects is second to none, and is something that has to be seen to be believed. Apart from the sought after limited edition bronze horse sculptures, Belinda has undertaken a large number of important commissions for leading figures throughout the equestrian world, including the World Series Racing Championships, the Breeders’ Cup, Hickstead Dressage, and the Chatsworth and Branham International Horse Trials - the most prestigious equestrian events in the world.

Belinda Sillars, will be unveiling ‘Icarus’, her latest creation, at this year’s Badminton Horse Trials. As a limited edition piece with a ground-breaking palomino finish, he’s something that any equestrian or appreciator of art will be enchanted by.

Icarus is based on Belinda’s own pony, a striking palomino with a beautiful head and excellent conformation. Not only are the detail, scale and the skill used in the design simply breathtaking, but so is the finish. In addition to traditional bronze, Icarus will be available with a palomino finish that’s created using combinations of traditional applications to achieve a striking patina.

“As this piece was inspired by my own palomino, Icarus, I just felt I had to push the boundaries of the patinas I have achieved before and perfect a palomino finish on some of the limited edition of 12 sculptures. I believe this is a first for bronze,” said Belinda. “Each of the 12 sculptures is painstakingly hand-finished by me, so they all have their own individual looks and are available in the traditional bronze, as well as the eye-catching palomino golden-hued finish.”
