A company that sells quality with diversity
ISO 14001:1996 Certification ISO 9001:2000 Certification ISO 18001:1999 Certification
Crompton Greaves Limited an Indian MNC and member of the Gautam Thapar led group of companies AVANTHA, was established in 1937. Ever since then, the Company has assiduously endeavoured to bring about meaningful & revolutionary changes in the lives of people, through its wide spectrum of products and services. Today we proudly associate the corporate positioning line – “Everyday Solutions” with the legacy left behind by our founder Col. R.E.B. Crompton.
The company’s origins go back to two entrepreneurial ventures in the 19th century. One of them was an English firm by the name of R.E.B. Crompton & Company, which was founded in 1878 by Colonel Rookes Evelyn Bell Crompton, a renowned electrical engineer. The other was James Greaves & Company (JGC), an Indian firm that was established in 1858. In 1927, Crompton & Company merged with F. A. Parkinson, pioneers in the field of large-scale industrial engineering to form a new company, Crompton Parkinson. Crompton Parkinson, UK, set up a factory in Worli, Bombay, for the manufacture of small electric motors and ceiling fans under the style Crompton Parkinson Works (India) Ltd. A marketing organisation under the banner, Greaves Cotton and Crompton Parkinson (Pvt.) Ltd. was established simultaneously with Greaves Cotton & Co., the selling agents of Crompton Parkinson Works (India).
From the beginning, R.E.B. Crompton & Company had focused on generation of electricity, with lighting making up a significant part of its activities. A Crompton dynamo powered the first electric-lit house in the world at Colchester, Essex. The company set up arc lighting plants at Buckingham Palace, Holyrod Palace, Crystal Palace and King’s Cross Station, London.
Today, the 70-year young Crompton Greaves’ principal business groups comprise Power Systems, Industrial Systems and Consumer Products which include the recently introduced IP Surveillance Products. With the recent acquisitions of the Pauwels Group of Belgium in 2005, Ganz Transelektro and its Associate Company Transverticum, Hungary, in October 2006 and Microsol Holdings Limited, Ireland, in May 2007 the company is poised to offer superior and complete Power Solutions to its diverse and discerning clientele. Besides manufacturing facilities, CG’s international operations are spread over every continent in the world to become one of the largest suppliers from India in each segment of Transformers, Switchgear, Motors & Generators, Pumps, Fans and Lighting equipment. Its manufacturing and marketing superiority is spread over seven countries and 140 sales offices, respectively. Apart from developed countries, CG also enjoys an export presence in the emerging Southeast Asian and Latin American countries.
The Lighting Business Group of Crompton Greaves which is a part of the Consumer Products SBU, has been a pioneering player in the field of artificial illumination for the last three decades. The Group has added many firsts to its credit; introduction of IP66 range of streetlights, vacuum pressure impregnation technology ballasts for FTL, CFL & HID lamps and the next generation T5 lighting systems, to name just a few.
The Baroda Lamp Works with its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, manufactures incandescent lamps, fluorescent tubes, HID lamps and CFL lamps which have found wide acceptance internationally because of their superior quality.
A sophisticated laboratory houses equipment for development of new products and quality assurance. CG LUX the in-house lighting design software has rendered lighting calculations simple and quick. This user friendly software, has many satisfied users viz; consultants, architects and interior designers.
Crompton Greaves’ Lighting is committed to offer the best products and solutions thus establishing a new standard for good lighting practices. The products which are futuristic in their design and concept contribute immensely to the ambience, adding a new dimension, for total customer satisfaction.

Globalization has had a profound impact on the way organizations and individuals conduct their business activities. The working times have extended way beyond the normal business hours; even leisure activities tend to be extended well into the night. This quantum shift has spawned the need for outdoor lighting which goes much beyond the realm of the conventional street lighting or the odd lattice structure lighting, for the movement of both, men and material.
High mast lighting as a concept in area lighting is being preferred over conventional lighting, especially where large areas are to be illuminated without the need for numerous lighting columns that, under certain circumstances, can be a hazard to movement. This is possible because the high mast lighting system achieves very large space to height ratios.
High-mast lighting is ideal for many areas, particularly complicated or multi-level road systems, industrial or commercial areas, docks, airports, stations, car parks and even some hazardous areas. All of these areas require the best possible lighting with minimum interference from the installation itself combined with ease of maintenance.
Crompton Greaves with its pioneering position in the field of artificial illumination since last three decades is fully geared to meet the growing need for high mast lighting. Equipped with a fully qualified team of experience professionals Crompton Greaves can successfully execute any high mast lighting project, right from offering best illumination design schemes to supply of superior quality poles lamps and luminaires/accessories.
City planners, Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Consultants would definitely benefit from associating with Crompton Greaves.
HIGH MAST
M A S T S T R U C T U R EOur high mast is a continuously tapered, polygonal cross section of atleast 20 sides, presenting a good and pleasing appearance which is based on proven in tension design conforming to the Technical report no.7 - 1996 of the Institution of Lighting Engineers. UK. to give an assured performance and reliable service. The structure is suitable for loading as per IS 875 (part 3) 1987.
C O N S T R U C T I O NHigh mast is fabricated from steel plates conforming to BS-EN 10025, cut and folded to form a polygonal section. Masts are in two sections for 16 & 20 Mtr and in three sections for 25 & 30 Mtr heights having only longitudinal weld conforming to BS 5135/AWS. The mast is provided with a fully penetrated flange which is free from any laminations or incursions. The welded connection of the base flange is fully developed to the strength of the entire section. The base flange is provided with supplementary gussets between bolt holes to ensure elimination of helical stress concentration. For environmental protection of the mast, the entire fabricated mast is Hot Dip Galvanised (Single Dip)internally and externally, having uniform coating thickness of 85 / 65 microns for bottom / top sections respectively.
D O O R O P E N I N GAn adequate door opening is provided at the base of the mast. The opening is such that it permits clear access to equipments like winch, cable, wire rope, plug & socket etc. and also facilitates easy removal of the winch for servicing. The door opening is complete with a close fitting vandal resistant allen key locking with provision for external lock. The door opening is carefully designed and reinforced with adequate steel section so that the mast section at the base is unaffected, and undue buckling of the cut portion is prevented under heavy wind condition.
D Y N A M I C L O A D I N GOur mast structure is designed to sustain an assumed maximum reaction arising from wind speed as per IS 875 (Part 3) 1987 (three seconds) which is measured at a height of 10 mtrs above ground level. Our standard masts are suitable for a wind speed of 180 Kms/hour (50M/Sec) we can also offer masts suitable for a wind speed of 225 Kms/hr (62.5 M/sec).
A C C E S S O R I E SThe high mast is provided with accessories as per customer requirements. Generally these include a raising and lowering system (R & L),trailing cable, power tool, feeder pillar for automatic switching operation of luminaires, lighting finial and aviation obstruction warning light.
The R & L system will comprise of a double drum winch, SS wire ropes, head frame and lantern carriage. The winch is self lubricating and self sustaining type. It does not require any brake or clutch and has a lifting capacity of SWL 750 Kgs.
The wire ropes are of stainless steel grade AISI316 with minimum 6mm diameter and 7/19 construction. It’s central core is also SS and have a breaking strength of 2350Kgs.
The power tool is integral / external type suitable for handling the total head load. It has a mechanical torque limiter to ensure safety and also a manual handle is provided. Suitable for use in open areas, airports, railway stations, road junctions, container yards etc.
