There are two sides to the service I will be reviewing. Firstly, features. HiDrive is well

specified in terms of access to your files. You have a choice of SMB/CIFS, WebDAV,

FTP, SFTP, FTPS, rsync and SCP. All access methods worked well with my

Windows 8 PC. I live in the UK and upload speeds seemed to be pretty quick only

taking two days to backup around 250GB (im on BT Infinity).

Then there is the cusomer service not so good. The main Strato HiDrive website

states that they have a 30 day moneyback guarantee. Apparenly they dont quibble if

you purchase through the strato website, but they feel entitled to quibble if you

purchased a paid service through https://www.free-hidrive.com/ (https://www.free-

hidrive.com/) so beware, they point blank refuse to offer a refund for any reason.

Once logged into your account, you have access to a range of options but the

website is poorly designed, with a tacked together messy interface which shows theyhave not invested much time or effort here. Its interesting to note that this company

is part of Deutsche Telekom so you would think that HiDrives offering would be a

little less amateur.


The pricing plans are not cheap and on par with premium rate services such as

dropbox. My experience was not excellent but it was good. So if you dont think

you will want a refund and dont mind paying over the odds for a versatile service

then HiDrive might be for you, but unless you need special protocols such as rsync

then I suggest you look elsewhere.

Been using Strato HiDrive for 2 or 3 years now. When I signed up, it was one of the

cheaper options, but no longer. Im paying 17 euros per month for 500 GB space,

and there plenty of other services that offer twice the space for less than half the


price.

Web user interface is functional, but not pretty.

Mostly reliable, but I have occasional periods when my backup client (HiDrive app

running on Synology Diskstation) cant log in.for reasons on their end.

Billing is a mess, theyre continually making mistakes. Check your bills.
