HGS UK MAKES A GRAND SHOW AT GRAND DESIGNS LIVE

- Spreading Word About The Green Deal -

HGS UK partnered with the Energy Savings Trust once again to promote the Green Deal programme at The Grand Designs Live show in London, in May 2013. The iconic home show based on the Channel 4 TV series, and presented by design guru Kevin McCloud, saw participation from over 500 exhibitors across various home-based categories.

HGS Energy Saving Advisors were at the event to promote the Green Deal and answer queries from the general public on energy efficient improvements that can be made to homes via the programme. Over a course of 8 days, HGS advisors received over a 1000 queries on energy saving measures as varied as fitting and maintenance of solar panels, to ground source heat pumps, to internal wall and floor ventilations.

“The nature of queries can be quite varied and complex”, reveals Rob Irons, HGS’ Account Director for Public Sector services. “Our advisors are experts, equipped with knowledge on the wide range of measures that can be adopted under the Green Deal programme. And they can customise this information for the consumers, as per their requirements. Our presence was therefore integral to the success of the promotion.”

HGS advisors were strategically stationed in front of the Grand Theatre, the show’s epicentre, which featured a stream of live debates and talks from industry experts. A specially erected ‘Ask an Expert’ stand allowed visitors to converse one-to-one with HGS advisors and register for appointments.

HGS advisors also helped to turn the tide of opinion about the Green Deal at the show. “People were initially sceptical about the scheme – I can only attribute this to lack of information and negative publicity in the media,” comments Joe Watts, Team Leader for HGS’ Green Deal project. “But we were able to supply them with information to stoke their interest in the scheme, and eventually engage them in meaningful conversations about making energy savings to their homes”, he further adds.

Feelings which were reiterated by Andrew Benfield – Head of Government Programmes at the Energy Savings Trust, “ HGS advisors are the voice of the Green Deal programme. They have been at the forefront of delivering this service to the masses. They have been achieving this through personalised support over the phone and through facilitating great conversations around energy savings at similar events.
