lead to many of our students pursuing careers in STEM later in life. Clarification of Parking & Pedestrian Access I’d like to thank our school community, local residents and Council who have worked together to determine the guidelines linked here for access to the school and limitations on parking in surrounding streets. Please abide by all signage and be aware that rangers will be around regularly to ensure that motorists are abiding by the guidelines. School Uniform Update School jackets that have been pre-ordered will be delivered to school on Monday 27 May. In the meantime, students may continue to wear appropriate warm clothing as the weather cools down. Lost Property & Labelling Items Our lost property baskets are overflowing. Please remind your children to regularly check the baskets for missing items.

Seeking Community Users An opportunity exists for a private dance company, church group or community organisation to hire our school hall on evenings or weekends. Now that the construction team have left us, the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the school by leasing space has arisen. If you know of any interested organisations, please feel free to refer this notice to them. Hall hire rates are between $30 and $40 per hour.

Years 4-6 Camp Note & Deposit Students in Years 4-6 have the opportunity to be part of our very first camp! Miss McGill has arranged a three-day, two-night excursion for Wednesday 18 September to Friday 20 September. The camp is to The Collaroy Centre where students and staff will participate in sport and recreational activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, archery and orienteering. Please head to School Stream, select Stage 2 or Stage 3 from the menu and complete the return note now. We are having difficulty confirming numbers due to a low response rate. Your assistance is appreciated.

National Simultaneous Story Time An annual event in the library calendar is ‘National Simultaneous Storytime'. We will be joining in next Wednesday with this event. Stay tuned in next week’s edition of Library Biz for the report on how it all went! AND who the special guest story teller was!

Borrowing Kindergarten students were very excited to begin borrowing this week. Some students didn’t have library bags so please make sure the bag they were lent is returned with their book AND their own library bag next week. Books are changed over on a weekly basis during library lessons. See below for a reminder of classes’ library days:

• KK & KD - MONDAY • KC & KT - TUESDAY • KP - THURSDAY • KY - FRIDAY

NB: please note this may be subject to change should there be an alteration to whole-school timetabling. Book Covering HUGE thanks to the parents that have volunteered their time to help with the covering of library books and guided readers for classrooms. This has meant that our students and teachers have been able to begin using these materials in their teaching and learning. Special thanks to Susanne Ceselli for her work. Susanne has single-handedly covered hundreds (quite literally) of books for us since midway through last term. Susanne, we cannot thank you enough for this extraordinary job. My apologies for not giving you this ‘shout-out’ sooner!

Book Donations We are incredibly grateful to our community for the vast amount of books donated to our library. This has been a significant factor in enabling our Kindergarten students to start borrowing this week. We are now at the point however where we can no longer accept any more donations. This is not to say we won’t need more at another point in time but we will keep you posted. Premier’s Reading Challenge Another four students have COMPLETED the Challenge! Congratulations to… Summer P, Aryan S and Jasmin P. Let’s keep working towards achieving our goal of everyone in our school completing the Challenge! PRC at a glance: • All books read are logged online – no paper

records. • Student login details are their Department of

Education (DoE) credentials used to log in to all Doe applications e.g. firstname.lastname + password

• 3-6 students must complete the Challenge independently but have now been shown the process required to complete their reading records

• ALL K-2 students at North Kellyville will complete the Challenge as their books can be shared and/or read to them.

• K-2 students will have the books read with them at school, logged online by me.

• There is a very useful information note available here

• If all else fails….Search NSW PRC via Google or see Ms Whelan!

Book Club Issue 3 catalogues were distributed to students last week. Ordering closes Friday Week 3 – 17th May. Until next time…happy reading!

GET TO KNOW US

Get to know Lisa Ingleton!

Question 1: Tell us a little bit about yourself… I am the Learning Support Teacher at North Kellyvi lle Public School. In all of my spare time I am mum to the cheeky and sometimes terrible 2.5 year old Twingleton twins. I love to travel overseas and would like to one day visit all the different Disneylands. I am a major geek who loves all sorts of geeky things; this is often reflected in what I wear and what I discuss with the children everyday! Question 2: Why did you become a teacher? I come from a family of teachers. Mum is a high school Mathematics teacher and dad was a high school principal for many years before retiring and doing a law degree. The only difference is I could NEVER teach high school.

Question 3: What is your favourite subject/concept to teach and why? I love love love to read so trying to foster a love of reading in children has always been a passion of mine. This has lead me to really enjoy teaching English. The joy on a child's face when they first realise they can read is priceless! Question 4: If you could have a super power what would it be and why? I think I’m going to be an original and say the ability to clone myself. As a busy mum, teacher, wife, aunty, sister and friend there are many times in a day that I need to be in more than one place. The guilt of not been able to do it all kills me! Question 5: Share one interesting fact about you? I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 15. I use an insulin pump and wear a continuous glucose monitor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the children find it very fascinating.

Get to know Jessy Smallacombe!

Question 1: Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Mum of boys. Reader. Avid user of photo filters. Question 2: Why did you become a teacher? As a little girl I would play teachers and actually write all over my bedroom door with chalk pretending to model masses of important information. Fast forward to Year 12 Geography and my then teacher tells me something that will change my life. She said I think you need to change your mind about what you want to do when you leave school. You NEED to be a teacher. You explain things so well and your face lights up when you do. I remember telling her that I couldn’t because I wasn’t a great writer and she said don’t let one little hurdle get in the way of where you should be heading. The power of those words changed my future and has shaped my mindset towards teaching little hearts and minds forever.

Question 3: What is your favourite subject to teach and why? My favourite subject to teach is writing! Question 4: If you could have a super power what would it be and why? I would love a pair of Wonder Woman bracelets to fight off danger and protect the ones I love. Question 5: Share one interesting fact about yourself. I ride horses and motorbikes for fun.
