Baptism StoriesGavin SellersI was raised in a Christian family and even though I always believed in God I wondered, “What if God isn’t real?” But then, I started thinking, “God is the best thing and He must be real.” Since then my life has been a lot different; now I know that I am forgiven and that God will always love me! I believe in Christ my Savior and I always will!

Justin Naramor Around the age of 8, I decided that I needed a Savior, someone I could really look up to and trust even in times of trouble. I knew about the existence of Jesus, but I had been treating Him as someone I only talked about in church; I didn’t see God as a “father”. Since accepting Christ, I’ve seen God more as a true Father, and I understood that He would always be

there for me throughout my entire existence. It’s always nice to know that God is watching over us just like our earthly fathers, but in a more eternal way. I hear this message over and over in my head as well as in many worship songs. It’s something I’ll never forget.

Elise Florence For most of my life I had seen Jesus, not known Him, but rather viewed Him through a stained window of disbelief and disinterest. I let my parents’ belief shelter me from questions about my faith. That was the way I went through life until three years ago; discontented, unmotivated, and wandering aimlessly. The summer of 2014 I went to summer Bible camp, and my view of

Christianity was radically changed. I realized how much Jesus’ sacrifice had done for me, and that I needed Him more than anything else in this world. I gladly I gave my life to Him. Since then my faith has gone through both periods of doubt, and of growth, but that has only strengthened my relationship with God. Recently I realized the significance of baptism, and God moved me to be baptized. He has always seen me safely through the trials of life, and the power of His salvation will guide me through the rest of my days.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Olivia FlorenceI was raised in a Christian family. My school and my family have taught me to believe in Jesus. I believe He is creator of heaven and earth, and that He died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I want to be baptized because that is what the Bible says to do.

Anastasia Tatarsky I grew up hearing about the Lord and reading scripture; I thought I was saved at four years old. I went to church, helped lead youth group, and was a leader everywhere I went. Many people did not know that I was the biggest hypocrite of all. I was a mocker, liar, slanderer, partier, people-pleaser, and sinner; living from a place of fearing man rather than God. I blamed my circumstances for the

way that I was behaving, rather than acknowledging that my heart was wicked and in rebellion before the Lord. I lived with a form of godliness, but denied His power and the truth. I had read through all of scripture by a young age, but I did not realize that the true saving grace of the Gospel was a stranger to my heart.

Eventually, my life began falling apart; my health, my family, my church fellowship, my reputation… in God’s sovereignty, He allowed me to see my own heart for what it really was: wicked. No matter how hard I tried by my own strength to stop sinning, I failed. In God’s kindness, He brought me to repentance of my sins and a confession that I could NEVER be saved by my own works or righteousness, because they were like filthy rags before the Lord! I finally recognized the grace of the Gospel in seeing that Jesus died for me when I was dead in my sin and in deep darkness. He died so that I might live IN Him, WITH Him, and UNTO Him. My ears had heard, but now my eyes had seen! I understood the love of my Father, and am understanding it more every day.

Since the Lord changed my heart, I have had the peace of God in my heart. He healed my soul and took away depression! He has given me His Spirit and it is so beautiful. He has sanctified and redeemed me for His glory and by His power! He raised me out of the ashes and has given me a NEW song. It is in continually reminding myself of the grace of the Gospel of Jesus that I continue to overcome sin in my life, and I now see Him making me more and more like Him.

Lily LibbyI started to really believe in Jesus during kindergarten when I was at a Vacation Bible School in Salem, Oregon. God has shown me that He is real; He saved me from dying twice during my birth. He also saved me from being deaf and blind because He knew I was going to do great things for Him and others, like bring them to Jesus.

Since coming to know Jesus I have been spending time in prayer almost every day. I try to read at least one Bible verse each day, and I have prayed with others at school. I am so glad that God has given me the Bible, a book to guide me through life. What I love most about Jesus is the way that He loves to heal people.

I know that God saved me for a purpose, and I plan to spend the rest of my life sharing my story and telling people about how God has healed me and saved me.

Joan AndersonWhen I was about 5 years old, my sister and I started walking to a church near our home. I was baptized when I was 11 years old, and was active in the church through high school. During the years that followed, I got busy with marriage, family and the frequent moves our family made. I put Jesus on the back burner. I would go to church occasionally, but I was a shy person and was often too intimidated to try

new churches every time we moved. When my husband passed away, some of my neighbors put me on the list of projects for Love Vancouver. A group from Summit View came to clean up my yard and repaint my house. I started to attend Summit View and found a peace that I needed.

These days I have more peace in my life than ever before. With the love of Jesus, I got through one of the hardest times of my life. With His comfort I have been able to grow and enjoy my new life. I have found enjoyment in being a part of a church family and attending my Bible study. I have been blessed with a lot of help from so many; In addition to the help around my house, I have had help with rides when necessary and so many other things. I am looking forward to a continued life with Jesus at the center of my life.

Rachel MacArthurI want to be baptized because I want to die to my old way of life for Jesus and be loved by Him. I want Jesus to know I care for Him and I want to be a part of Jesus’s life. I have always been a Christian. Ever since I was four days old my family went to church; we stopped going because other things came first. When I was seven years old, I went to a Christian summer camp and although I enjoyed it very much, I didn’t have a very good connection to God

until I began going to church again at age 12. Ever since then, I have been going and continue to feel happier and less stressed. I see the world in a different way now, I feel lifted off my feet with no stress and with so much happiness. I talk with Jesus every day.

When I first started going to church I was very nervous, but everyone was smiling and singing joyfully, and after five minutes I loved it. After a morning of worshiping and learning about Jesus at church I am just so happy I feel like I can do anything.

Paul Nussbaum Like many, I grew up in the church and attended youth group all through high school. I figured I was a follower of Christ; I was baptized as a baby and that was enough. In truth, my faith was not that strong. I walked away from God in college and proceeded to make some bad decisions as I went through my twenties. At age 26, I looked at my life and decided I didn’t want to continue

down the same path; it was empty and unfulfilling. I started going to church again and renewed my faith in Christ. But this time was different. Now, as an adult, having experienced life without Christ, I knew I never wanted to go back to my old life. That was 12 years ago. I have felt called to get baptized for several years now, and finally decided it was time.

Grace Nussbaum My mom and dad are Christians, so I went to church and learned about Jesus. I grew up knowing about Jesus. Jesus is important to me because He is our Savior and He died for us. He didn’t have to die for us. But He wanted to because He loves us and wants to be with us. I accepted Jesus into my heart in the fall of 2015. I want to get baptized to show everyone that God is in my heart.

Hannah Rouse I learned about Jesus from my parents and Summit View Church. I asked Him into my heart when I was seven years old. I want to get baptized because I want to show everyone that I am a Christian. I love God and I want to know more about him and have a closer relationship with him.

This means a lot to me because Jesus washed away my sins when He died on the cross and He loves and cares for

me even if I do something wrong. I want to take chances with other people like God did with me. I want people to see Jesus’ love through me. I don’t have to be afraid because God is always with me and He can do anything and I truly believe that.I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! - Philippians 4:13

Hannah CampI came to know Jesus through my family and church. I continue to learn more about Him every day. He has been my comforter when I have went through difficult times, including my surgeries.

Hayden KeslerI have been going to church my whole life and pretty much that is how I met Jesus. In first grade, I thought, “I’ll ask Jesus in to my heart and I will be a better person.” It was not until the summer of 2016 when I went to the middle school camp that I realized what it really meant to follow Jesus Christ.

Before camp I had a lot of pride and thought that being a Christian just made me a better person. I didn’t have a good understanding of what it meant to really follow God. During the second night of camp, something switched inside me and I thought, “I was all wrong about this. Following Jesus doesn’t just make you a good person, it changes your relationship with God.” Because of Jesus, I can have a relationship with God that means something. Since then, I have started praying every night. I keep my small Bible in my backpack at school. When there is hard stuff in my life I can open the Bible and read, and I forget what I was stressed about. I’m learning that God has a plan for my life, and when I am faithful to follow Him, He will bless my life with good things.

Casey Woida I have always believed there is a higher power, that there was someone watching over me. Even as a lonely child, I still sensed someone was there, guiding me, leading me down a path; a path over which I had no control. God first chose to show Himself to me on the night I attempted suicide, when I realized I could make the choice between life and death. I chose life not because I was in control, but

because in that moment, God allowed me to see my life in a different way. Though He had given me the power to say, “I want to live”, I still rejected Him and the idea that someone else would have control over me; I wanted to be in control. I had been telling myself that my success was my own doing and that only I was going to decide my fate. It wasn’t until God allowed me to come to the lowest point in my life that I was able to let myself surrender to the belief that I needed Jesus, and let Him be my Lord and Savior. God sent His Son to die for my sins so that I could be saved. It is truly wonderful to know that God is sovereign, that He is good, and He is in control.
