“One of the finest, earliest residences in St. John’s”

Richmond Hill is an early 19th century two storey wooden house perched snugly in the side of a hill in west end St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Built in 1848, Richmond Cottage speaks to the wealth of its original owner, being one of the finest, earliest residences in St. John’s. A marvelous example of early Classical Vernacular architecture, it has a Mansard roof, and two large chimneys, and unique windows spanning from the floor to the top of the first floor. Classical pediments adorn the façade over each window and door.

Potential Uses

- Under the MOU with the City, the property can be used for up to two (2) residential dwellings

- With the heritage designation, more than two dwellings, a spa, or a bed-and-breakfast are also allowed; however these uses are contrary to the covenants signed with existing property owners of McLea Park. We are currently surveying residents to assess their comfort with this.
