Cumulative score information Total number of specimens sent to you for UK NEQAS for Hepatitis B serology over the last 3 distributions is 18 For these distributions specimen numbers 3789 3790 3791 3792 3793 3794 3956 3957 3958 3959 3960 3961 4138 4139 4140 4141 4142 4143 have been sent. Number of specimens reported too late for analysis (not scored) 0 Your cumulative score for the specimen/test combinations that you reported was 174 out of a possible total of 174 The mean score calculated from the reports returned by UK laboratories testing the specimen/test combinations you examined was 171.86 (with a standard error of 2.71). Performance rating Your performance rating for UK NEQAS for Hepatitis B serology (i.e. the number of standard errors by which your cumulative score lies above or below the mean for UK laboratories) is 0.79. A performance rating of more than 1.96 standard errors below the mean indicates possible poor performance. Your performance rating may change if other participants' results are amended. No score penalty is incurred for non return of reports. However non reporting of results may be used as a measure of poor performance.
Comments: Overall performance was excellent with 99.7% of participants reporting correctly for HBsAg, 99.9% for anti-HBc, 99.7% for anti-HBc IgM, 99.6% for HBeAg and 97.9% for anti-HBe. Comment on specimen 4139 Anti-HBe: 169/259 (65.3%) of participants reported a positive anti-HBe result for this specimen, 54/259 (20.8%) reported a negative result and 36/259 (13.9%) reported an equivocal result. Therefore consensus for this specimen was not reached and is not scored. Pre-distribution testing showed a positive anti-HBe result using the Abbott Architect and Biomerieux Vidas platforms with a negative anti-HBe result using the Diasorin ETI-EBK PLUS EIA. Cumulative performance information is presented on this page. In the histograms on page 3 and subsequent pages a maximum of 12 kit results are displayed: these include the most commonly used methods and the method(s) used in your laboratory is indicated by an arrow. The figures in the histograms and those in the overall results tables may differ (1) due to exclusion of kits displayed in the histograms resulting in apparently lower numbers of data sets in the histograms or (2) due to participants using more than one kit resulting in higher numbers of data sets in the histograms. HBsAg quantitative results : 45 participants reported quantitative results expressed in IU/mL using the Abbott Architect quantitative assay (n=14) and the DiaSorin Liaison assay (n=31). Median (lowest-highest) values by assay were as follows: Specimen 4138: 527 IU/mL (18-943) with Abbott Architect; 332 IU/mL (20-1000) with DiaSorin Liaison. Specimen 4139: 6 IU/mL (0-11) with Abbott Architect; 4 IU/mL (0-14) with DiaSorin Liaison. Specimen 4140: 519 IU/mL (16-946) with Abbott Architect; 340 IU/mL (22-1000) with DiaSorin Liaison. Specimen 4142: 4402 IU/mL (250-7751) with Abbott Architect; 3450 IU/mL (150-9643) with DiaSorin Liaison. Specimens 4141 and 4143 were negative for all markers. The quantitative results provided by the participants varied significantly to each other and were also different to the pre- distribution testing results that we have reported. If you use a quantitative assay please specify your method and report your results so we can include them in the analysis. Turn around time: The time taken to report your results was 4-days. This information is provided for your own use and does not form part of your performance assessment. Acknowledgements : We thank colleagues at PHE-NIS-Public Health Laboratory, Southampton; PHE-NIS-Virus Reference Division, Colindale; PHE-NIS-Public Health Laboratory, Manchester; Gloucestershire Royal Hospital; and NHSBT, Colindale for their kind assistance with pre-distribution testing. Enquiries: Repeat specimens can be ordered using the web form or by emailing [email protected]. stating your laboratory number, distribution number and type, and specimen number(s). Pre-distribution test results are available should you experience a technical failure and wish to discuss the results. Any technical queries about this distribution should be emailed to Habib Seyedzadeh at the above address. Report authorised by: Dr Sanjiv Rughooputh, Director
