Single Dwelling

Multi Dwelling

Your meter may be located outside or inside your home. If it’s outside, you’ll find it either on the left, right, or front wall, or on the front or rear porch of your home. Not there? It might be inside your home, so check in your hallway, laundry or garage.

If you live in an apartment, duplex or other multi-dwelling building, your meters should be together in one place, either in the basement, carpark or in a cabinet on your floor. Your meter should be labelled with your unit number, so make sure you’re reading the correct meter. If you’re not sure, check the meter number with the number on your last Powerdirect bill. The meter number is usually on the front of the meter.

How to read a clock dial meter

Things to watch out for

1. Confirm that the meter's serial number is the same as the one noted down on your last electricity bill.

2. Read the dials from left to right. The dials turn in opposite directions, so if the first one turns clockwise, the next will turn anti-clockwise. Make sure to check which way each dial turns before you read it.

3. If the pointer is between two numbers, note down the lower number. The exception to this rule is when the pointer is between 9 and 0. In this case, note down 9.

If the pointer is between two numbers, note down the lower number. In the example above, you should note down 4.

The reading for this meter is: 36207 The reading for this meter is: 17679 The reading for this meter is: 88196

Sometimes, the pointer will look like it’s directly on a number. Before you type anything down, look at the next dial.

If the pointer on the next dial is between 0 and 1, note down the number that the previous pointer was on.

For example, if the dials look like the above, note down 3.

If the pointer on the next dial is between 9 and 0, note down the number before the one the previous pointer was on.

For example, if the dials look like the above, note down 2.
