The Liberian Refugee camp in Buduburam, Ghana is a place largely forgotten by the inter-national community. The people on the camp struggle daily to find food and fresh water. What support the UNHCR once oered has been with-drawn and the refugees, caught between the unsympathetic Ghanaian population and the risks and challenges of returning home to a

struggling Liberia, are without aid and out of options. This is where I begin my story. I’ve peri-odically lived on the camp and worked with its residents since 2010. Out of this work grew the nonprofit I currently run, GroundUp Global. The people in this proposal have become a part of my family. I trust them implicitly and care for them deeply.

education facts:

Primary school enrollment in African countries is among the lowest in the world. 33 million primary school-aged children in Sub-Saharan Africa do not go to school, 18 million of these children are girls.

Education is the single greatest determining factor in whether a child will live a life of poverty.

Camilla, let me take this time to kindly appeal to you to please, please find sponsors for my chil-dren. They have been out of school for moor than a year now, due to the lack of finance. They cry when they see their friends going to school, which makes me cry also. Moreover, they are growing each day, Nush is 13years old Keithmiria is 10years old whilst Kim turns 4yrs tomorrow August 13. You have always been there for us Camilla, this time I am really appealing that you find sponsors for them. My greatest wish is for them to live and get their education in the United States.

They are my future Camilla, and especially as girls, It's my prayers that they get enough empow-erment to meet tomorrow's challenges. Schools are closed now but will be re opening in August 2013. Camilla, this will be one of the greatest blessings that I have ever received should my children get people to sponsor their education and welfare.

I believed that with God, ALL THINGS are possi-ble. May God connect you to those families or individuals who will take responsibility of my chil-dren's education and welfare. I believed that with the kind of heart that you have, this is going to be made possible.Lots of love

The budgets in this proposal come directly from the schoolsthat each child hopes to attend. Below is an explanation of some of the terms that may not be immediately clear.

Application and assessmentEach child must apply to the school and be assessed by teaching professionals before she can enroll

Maintenance / Development (fencing)Each student is expected to contribute a small amount of money to sustain the school. These funds generally go towards building repairs, desks and chairs, blackboards, chalk, etc.

PTAStands for “Parent Teach Association.” These funds support PTA initiatives within the school.

SRCStands for “Student Representative Council.” The SRC hosts a celebration each year to show appreciation to the overworked and underpaid teachers.

MotivationThese funds go to show appreciation for the school’s janitorial sta.

Examination & Stationary / West African Examination Council FeeExams are a necessary part of each academic year. In Ghana students must pay exam fees as well as pur-chasing their own stationary and pencils with which to take the exam. As seniors in high school, students additionally take the West African Examination which determines their prospects for further education and employment.
