say Hello! to our new neighbors.....

Hello Morristown, my name is Jana Bunsic and I’d like to introduce myself and my family...

We are “Team Bunsic”. My husband, Tim and I are the heads of the team. I lightheartedly re-fer to us as “Team Bunsic” at times in reference to our wedding ceremony in which our offi ci-ant, Judge Susie Lebow, referred to our union as such.

Anxious to expand the “Team” we adopted al-most immediately. Java Bunsic, now approxi-mately four and one half years old, was rescued out of a dumpster in Tampa, FL emaciated and unable to walk on her four legs. As she naps on her (actually our) Swedish memory foam mattress it is clear her dumpster diving days are a distant memory. For a second anniversa-ry present, our oldest, Aviah Kay (now 3) was born, followed up two seasons later by Briony Leigh (1). They are truly God’s gifts to us, as my husband says they are “daddy’s miracles.”

As is the case with every new parent, they brought us to rethink our lives. Although we were both stable in our jobs, Tim as a part-ner in a civil litigation law fi rm and myself as a clinic medical director, we didn’t feel fulfi lled. As the co-captains of the team, Tim and I, af-ter much deliberation made the decision to move our family from Pembroke Pines, FL to Morristown,TN.

I was born and raised in South Florida but spent all my vacations in areas with water or mountains, whereas Tim was born and bread in upstate New York. His was an outdoor-enthu-siast type of chi ldhood, w h e r e a s mine you could say r e v o l v e d a r o u n d s h o p p i n g ,

dining and every type of lesson imagin-able.

Desiring a more wholesome upbringing for our children and a different pace and focus of life for ourselves, we began dis-cussing our options. We agreed my thin Florida skin might not survive the harsh NY winter, nor was Tim looking forward to a daily regimen of shoveling for 5 months of winter. He wanted lakes, I wanted mountains, and we agreed the east coast was the most conducive to visiting friends and family. In our search we interviewed

in Mississip-pi, North Carolina and Knoxville. Although we liked Knoxville, it just didn’t feel like home. Re-membering one of about 500 phone calls Tim and I had received from physician recruiters, some small voice inside told us to reconsider a place called Morristown. The next week

we fl ew up to meet with everyone at Healt-star Physicians and were sold on this corner of the world as the new Team Bunsic head-quarters.

We have been here for two months now and we love it. We love our kid-friendly neighborhood, and Aviah enjoys naming off all her new friends with pride. Briony celebrated her fi rst birthday here and the neighborhood kids had fun guessing how many handfuls of cake she would consume in the fi rst minute. (The winner guessed 6!)

Tim is hard at work establishing his new law fi rm here in Morristown where he’ll be handling a wide variety of cases. I am enthusiastic to begin to practice Family Medicine in a well-organized, forward-thinking group such as Healthstar.

Having a diverse array of medical education and experience, I am excited to offer my expertise in adult and pediatric medicine, clinical nutrition including weight loss, preventative medicine in-cluding smoking cessation and os-teopathic manipu-

lative medicine including cranial osteopathy. I hope to contribute to the medical com-munity in Morristown by improving health outcomes in east Tennessee one patient at a time.

Regardless of what the media, your family or the neighbors say, if your home is not selling you want to know why. Tradi-tionally there are 5 factors that affect the selling of a home:

1.) Seller Motivation: are you really motivated to sell? If you are relocating you probably are, but if you are willing to sit on the house for a few months buyers will be willing to wait you out.2.) Lending Rates and Financing: are interest rates favor-able? Kiplinger.com states that mortgage rates are likely to close 2008 at 6%, which is a favorable mortgage rate. This rate may change a quarter of a point or two, but generally remain around 6% (according to experts currently studying trends). 3.) Location: as the saying goes, “location, location, loca-tion.” If your property is not located in a favorable place it will be diffi cult to sell in any market.4.) Condition: have you painted the walls? Is the house clean? Are there any glaring damages that need to be repaired? If your property is not in good condition when you put it on the market, buyers will walk in the door and walk back out. You have to present your house in its best light on a daily basis. 5.) Pricing: in today’s market, this is the most important fac-tor. With the market fl ush with homes, you HAVE TO PRICE CORRECTLY.

When buyers are looking for property the fi rst factor they con-sider is the price. If your house is not priced correctly, buyers will walk to the next house.

So, if you’re still saying to yourself: “I’ve done all those things!! I have a great house, it’s clean, shows great, is in a good location, and it’s priced as low as I can price it. What do I do now?” Believe me, I know how you feel. There are quite a few frustrated sellers on the market today.

My fi rst words of advice would be that if you do not have your home currently listed with a REALTOR, do so as soon as pos-sible. Although it may seem like marketing and selling your own home is well within your skill set, a REALTOR can offer you access to the multiple listing service, more online access, knowledge of required forms, and many other options you may not have considered. Also, almost 90% of “for sale by owner” homes eventually end up being sold by REALTORS.

If you have your home listed with a REALTOR, consider your pricing. Since the beginning of 2008 more and more homes are sitting on the market mainly due to inappropriate pricing. If you are a buyer, you may have noticed that you are looking at more vacant homes than you are owner occupied homes. Pricing has become very competitive and if you are not a mo-tivated seller, buyers will not be sending you offers. Homes that are priced right and priced to sell will sell.

Please feel free to call or email me at any time if you are interested in buying, selling, or just to get an idea of today’s market.

And best of luck!!

Clifford Smith took his wife and 4 small children and left his hometown of Morristown, TN to pursue a career change, due to some health problems, in DeLand, Florida in August of 1964. While he was in Florida, he discov-ered a new restaurant called Kentucky Fried Chicken. He liked the chicken so much that he inquired for the owner, who was not there at the time. He was told that this restaurant was actually doing well in a location where nothing had ever done well before. Clifford said he would be back. When he went back and talked to the owner, he asked how the business was and was told that he could make more than just a living. This was all Clifford needed to hear.

In March 1965, Clifford returned to his hometown of Morristown and pursued the franchise for KFC, which he got in May of 1965 right after Colonel Sanders had sold the KFC business to Jack Massey and John Y. Brown for $2 million. At this time, Clifford owns four KFC res-taurants: Morristown West opened fi rst in November 1965 and moved to it’s current location in the Spring of 1969, Jefferson City opened in July 1971 and relocated to it’s current location in October 1986, Morristown East opened in January 1984 and will be relocating to 521 East Morris Boulevard (across the street from Morristown Hamblen High School East) in October 2008, and Rog-ersville opened June 1986. Although Clifford has retired from the actual operations of the business, his son, Mi-chael has been running the business since January 1981. At one to time or another, Clifford’s three daughters, Debbie, Pamela, and Linda have all worked in the busi-ness. His son-in-law, Carroll Dotson, and daughter-in-law,

The Smith’s and Kentucky Fried Chickentogether 43 years and counting!

Karen Smith, and granddaughter, April Mills, are presently working in the business also. “KFC has truly been a bless-ing to our family throughout the years and we feel fortu-nate to have been a part of its beginnings and growth” says Michael Smith.

One favorite memory of Clifford’s about the Colonel was when Clifford invited the Colonel to be in the lo-cal Morristown Christmas parade. A local businessman mentioned to Clifford that he would really be impressed if Clifford was able to get “his Colonel worth 2 Million Dollars” to ride on his Christmas fl oat down Main Street. Not only did the Colonel ride the Christmas fl oat down Main Street that year, but the Colonel was the talk of the town for months afterwards.

Traditionally, Acupuncture is a preventive form of health-care and is effective for the prevention of and the treat-ment of acute and chronic conditions, for the relief of pain, pain management, sports injuries, trauma and more.

Now a popular use for Acupuncture is FACIAL ACU-PUNCTURE. The New York Times Sunday edition, Sep-tember 5, 2004, ran an article on Facial Acupuncture for the removal of wrinkles as the choice of many Hollywood stars.

You’ve most likely heard of the saying “Beauty is more than just skin deep.” There are two meanings to that famous phase. ONE- Beauty is not simply about how a person looks, but the personal-ity and characteristics of the person. TWO – External beauty is related to the internal workings of the body. The inner body’s condition will be refl ected externally on the complexion and from Chinese medicine’s point of view, both of these meanings certainly hold true.

gives one a “natural glow”, a relaxed facial expression, in-

fl ow to the facial tissue. Without a

Facial Acupuncture rejuvenates facial tissue and gives the face a bright and alert appearance. It lifts the face through muscle rejuvenation and its tightening action on pores and facial tissue. The face literally “glows”! Bodily systems

tion are enhanced and there is an increase in oxy-genation helping to transport new nutrients and remove toxins away from the facial skin, resulting in a more radiant and glowing complexion. Fine lines

may be entirely erased. Deeper lines are reduced fi rmed up. Facial points

and the entire body are simultaneously being stimulated.

Most of the meridians (which are the channels that your body energy or Qi fl ows) either starts or fi nishes on the face, and there are also plenty of acupuncture points on the face.

Since each meridian relates to a specifi c organ in our body, and the health and wellbeing of those organs are refl ected

through the meridian systems, it is easy to understand how our face can be a refl ec-tion of what’s going on internally in our body. If a person is unhappy, or stressed or worried all the time, this obviously will have a detrimental effect on their beauty.

Are you ready for a more glowing and exuberant

complexion?

Hello! Morristown ~ Hamblen County’s Favorite Community Magazine!

Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System is proud to announce the second annual Spirit of Women – Girls Night Out. The event has been set for Thursday, Octo-ber 30, 2008 at The First Presbyterian Church, Family Life Center.

Since MHHS joined the national Spirit Of Women net-work, members throughout the Five Rivers Region have been dazzled and entertained, they have received amaz-ing discounts, and they have received endless educa-tional opportunities to help them become healthier. In only one short year the local Spirit of Women has grown to over 1,700 members.

Members have enjoyed numerous events through-out the year all featur-ing the trademarked idea of Health-u-tainment, a form of health education that integrates the all im-portant aspect of having fun. Spirit of Women is a national organization with ties to national organizations such as National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Na-tional Ovarian Cancer Coalition, National Peripheral Ar-terial Disease Coalition, Government Offi ce on Women’s Health, US Department of Health and Human Services

and the National Institute of Health. “We are so honored to represent these national organizations in our area.

The information we receive on a regular basis keeps MHHS on the forefront of women’s health, and we can do our part to make the communities that we serve healthi-er,” stated Pam Snyder, Director of Marketing at MHHS.

This year’s cornerstone event, Girls Night Out, prom-ises to offer all the fun, food, health education, and of course the trademark chocolate fantasy dessert bar! Over 70 businesses will feature booths with free health

screenings, shopping, health information, cosmetic demonstrations, hair styling and much more. “We are working with all of our Spirit of Women partners to offer fun and interactive booths,” stated Snyder. The theme for this year’s event is Your Best Health Now. In addition to the food, fun and booths MHHS will also feature area physicians speaking on very impor-tant health topics such as Breast Cancer Awareness, Cardiometabolic Syndrome and Diabetes, and Bone and Joint Health.

Spirit of Women at MHHS is led by a com-munity Advisory Board consisting of Pam Snyder, Dedra Whitaker, Dawn Poythress, Tashia Bales, Tonie Clark, Pat-ty Christopher, Elizabeth Essary, Ann Hale, Trish Hatfi eld, Cindi Husk, Cookie Larkin, Sonya Shipley, Kathy Jones Terry, and Rosalind Thompson. “It never ceases to amaze me at the accomplishments of this program through this Advisory Board, they are committed to making a differ-ence and they do it every day,” stated Dedra Whitaker, MHHS Vice-President.

Snyder assured that “Every woman will feel like a Princess when she enters the event.” The $10 tickets are limited and on sale now at MHHS and on Lakewaytickets.com For in-formation on how to become a Spirit of Women Rewards Partner, how to reserve a booth, or how to become a member, call 423-317-3170 or 423-522-4641.

Screening mammograms are important for early detection of breast cancer. They can, in some cases, detect a lump

in the breast before you can feel it with your fingers. That’s why the American Cancer Society recommends a

baseline mammogram screening at age 35 and then every year for all women age 40 and over. For more information, call
