southern sun Hyde Park Hotel was the location for our Father’s Day feature photo shoot (cover and pages 10 to 11). Danny K and his father, Gavin, were warmly welcomed to this premier Joburg hotel. It was a mild Highveld winter’s afternoon and the Whiskey and Cigar Lounge created the perfect atmosphere for this dynamic father and son team to relax, chat, and enjoy a premium whiskey.

HeLLo JoBuRGeRs!

since taking over the reigns as editor, I am convinced more than ever that Joburg is a lively, bustling, happening city with so much on offer for everyone.

Recently I spent a saturday afternoon in Braamfontein – I could have been on the streets of a vibey new York neighbourhood. I am looking forward to an evening at the Joburg theatre watching Spirit of the Dance – the inter-national smash hit that’s been seen by 20 million people worldwide, and to The Stars of the American Ballet at the teatro at Montecasino – a theatre that is amongst the top eight lyric theatres in the world… and this Friday, I’ll prob-ably spend a relaxed evening with friends at the Base – a recently opened, small open-air tapas café that is off the beaten track, yet popular with those in the know.

the highlight though, for our June issue, was spending an inspiring afternoon with Danny K and his father, Gavin, at the exclusive southern sun Hyde Park Hotel for our cover

photo shoot. Father’s Day is on 15 June and we feature this dynamic father and son team reminisc-ing about Danny’s childhood, his early music career and their working relationship.

the calendar in this issue is packed with events and ideas to get you through the first of the really cold winter months. We highlight some restaurant openings that are worth a visit, particularly Remo’s Maximilliano in the new Waterfall Corner shopping Centre. But if comfort food is what you’re craving, then we bring you Jozi’s top five burger joints.

Ideas for an evening out with friends or family: how about news Café sandton for a Friday or satur-day night of live DJing, or be a ‘trawler for truncated cinema’ for a night and get tickets for Joburg’s short & sweet film festival at Katy’s Palace Bar, or try pop-up bar, the union Bar, in Illovo for an unusual cocktail…

so, you see, there really is no excuse to stay indoors this winter with so much on offer in Joburg right now!

enjoy! #lovejozi
