TRANSCRIPT
Hello Everyone: Let me begin by extending my thanks and gratitude for taking on the role of the school representative this year. The school rep is a very important part of how our Association functions and provides the direct link to every teacher in the province. This does involve another commitment on your part and for that I want to say thank you for adding to your already full work day. My name is Dean Ingram and I have decided to offer myself as a candidate for the Presidency of our Association. I am hopeful that after assessing my experiences and vision for our Association you can see fit to support me in my bid to become NLTA president on December 6th. My involvement with the NLTA has spanned my entire 23 year career and for the past 4 years I have been fortunate enough to sit as Vice President of our Association. During this time I have gotten to meet many of you and I am hopeful that over the coming months I will get to meet many more. I have always held that in order to be speaking for teachers you have to be speaking to those same teachers. The next few months are going to provide a number of challenges to our membership. All indications are that the next round of bargaining is going to be a tough one. I have been at that table on 2 separate occasions. I particularly proud of what we were able to accomplish during the last round. The Team that I led was able to secure, at long last, Family leave for all of our members. This was achieved due in no small part to the united front that the Teachers of the province presented. I firmly believe that when we as teachers speak as a common voice we can achieve great things. We can drive home the message that if Government is interested in addressing what they may identify as “wrong” in Education they would be well served by supporting what is right. What is right in Education is the work and commitment of our Members. To improve Learning Conditions you need to begin with improving Teaching Conditions. The following is a copy of a series of endorsements that a number of past NLTA Presidents, Executive members, Branch Presidents and Classroom teachers have provided that state why they believe that I am suited to assume the Presidency of our Association. They have all gotten to know me over the years and can attest to what I have done over the years. I am hoping that you can share this with your fellow teachers in your school. I am also hoping that you can take the time to visit my website: http://users.eastlink.ca/~deaningram/ There you will find a lot of information about myself and what I might bring forward as President of our Association. Please encourage your colleagues to email me with any questions that they might have. My email is [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a Candidate and I hope that in the coming months I can get the opportunity to visit as many of you as possible.

Statements of Endorsement for NLTA President
"Since 2008 I have been involved with the NLTA as a Branch President and have seen Dean Ingram very
impressively grow from an Executive Member and recently to the position as our Vice President! Dean's
knowledge of our past and present collective bargaining agreements is second to none! The NLTA has a history of
grooming our members from Branch Executive positions to assume positions within Joint Council and Provincial
Executive while en route to Provincial President!
Dean has the experience to take on the position of NLTA President! He is always available to hear your concerns
and possible solutions to any issue which might arise! His knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order is impeccable and
he has a very professional rapport with the staff at 3 Kenmount Road! I feel the NLTA will be in great hands with
Dean at the helm and therefore am pleased to endorse him for the position of NLTA President!
Dr. K.W. Vivian ‐ Burgeo Branch President. Classroom Teacher, Burgeo
I’m writing this letter to recommend Dean Ingram for the position of NLTA President. For the past six years I’ve
come to know Dean while serving as Green Bay Branch President. In all the time I’ve known Dean, he has proven
himself to be very dedicated, loyal and passionate voice for the teachers of the province.
Dean shares an excellent personal and professional rapport with all of his colleagues which are qualities that are
rare, however, necessary for the prestigious position. Dean has demonstrated strong leadership abilities within the
NLTA during his entire career. His proven leadership abilities are needed as the Association is about to embark on
very tough contract negotiations with the current Liberal government. An endorsement for Dean is a decision that
the membership won’t regret. I can’t think of a better fit for the position. If you have any further questions, feel
free to call or email me.
Kevin Flynn Green Bay Branch President, Classroom Teacher, Dorset Collegiate (Pilley’s Island)
I have known Dean Ingram for about 10 years. Over this time, we have become friends and have shared many
conversations pertaining to teaching and teachers' lives. I have seen his passion as he discusses important issues
that affect our classrooms. I have watched him in action and he is quite knowledgeable about our Collective
Agreement. He is well respected by our Provincial Executive, our Branch Presidents and our Association in
general. Dean works hard and I believe he will dedicate himself to carrying the NLTA forward and making advances
that our teachers deserve, in his role as President.
Kim Siegfriedt – Branch President. Upper Trinity South Branch, Classroom Teacher, Crescent Collegiate
(Blaketown)
I have known Dean Ingram for 20 years and I have had the privilege of serving with him in the role of Branch
President, Group Insurance trustee and on NLTA Provincial Executive. During that time, I have seen firsthand
Dean’s commitment to improving the professional and personal lives of teachers in this province. I have worked
closely with Dean and every decision he makes is teacher centered because he knows that the working conditions
of teachers are the learning conditions of our students.
We are at critical time in the Association’s history. We will soon be entering negations with a government which
appears to be looking to strip our contract. Having been a member and chair of the negotiating team, Dean knows
not only the collective agreement but also the process of collective bargaining. It is my belief that we need a
4 | P a g e
person with that deep knowledge to lead the Association over the next two years. And I believe that person is
Dean Ingram.
Dean also has an incredible understanding of both the governance and administrative sides of NLTA. This
understanding can only come from years of service at all levels within the Association. Dean has gained such
knowledge because of the service he has given to the teachers of this province for the last 20 years.
Over the past 4 years, I have seen him take on major leadership roles as our vice president. In that role he not only
chaired the negotiating team in a successful round of collective bargaining, he has stepped up and has represented
this Association on behalf of the president whenever he was called upon to do so.
In his role as vice president, Dean has worked tirelessly. I believe there is no better way to prepare to be president
than to be vice president. The knowledge and experience he has gained in the vice president’s role will serve the
teachers of this province well and will allow for a smooth transition from one president to another.
Dean has a great understanding of and respect for the history of NLTA. He recognizes that we were built upon two
pillars: teacher welfare and professional development. He has been an active member of Special Interest Councils,
has supported the efforts to revitalize and grow our SIC structure and he understands the valuable role they play
within our Association.
I have not seen a person more prepared to become president of our great Association. His passion, experience,
knowledge, dedication to teachers and his belief that together we will make a difference are some of the reasons
why I am supporting him as he seeks the office of President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teacher’s
Association.
I am truly convinced that Dean is the best choice we have to lead us over the next two years. I have had the honor
of working with him and I am looking forward to the next two years of his leadership.
Bill Chaisson – Provincial Executive Member (2003 – 2011, 2013 – Present), Principal St. Gerards Elementary,
Corner Brook.
It is my pleasure to take this opportunity to endorse Dean Ingram in his campaign for the upcoming NLTA President position for 2017‐2019. I have had the opportunity to get to know Dean over the past number of years throughout his roles in various positions involved with the NLTA. During these various positions I have watched Dean grow professionally to the position he is currently in today, NLTA Vice President elect 2015‐2017. I do fully believe that being Vice President elect places him in a position of knowledge and awareness which will allow him to lead the association in the best way possible knowing the numerous undertakings that are facing the association. Furthermore, I like to point out that Dean shows much passion and dedication to his family and this is essential for any leader. Being able to demonstrate the balance between professional and personal lives is something needed by all of the association’s members and Dean does a fine job of modelling this skill. I wish Dean the best of luck and look forward to hearing more from his campaign during the upcoming fall semester. Christina Cox, Asst.Principal – St. Pauls Junior High, St. John’s
Dean Ingram has been actively involved with NLTA for several years in various capacities. I have known Dean for
ten years. I had the opportunity to work with Dean when we both were a member of the negotiating team for
NLTA. I have had the privilege to attend BGM, joint council meetings, and branch meetings, just to name a few,
with Dean. Dean has always been very professional and articulate at these various events. He has a wealth of
5 | P a g e
knowledge when it comes to NLTA and the teaching profession. He always has the best interests of the students
and teachers in mind when negotiating.
Dean is a strong and committed individual. He has had to deal with health concerns in the past but that did not
slow him down. He persevered and overcame any obstacles that got in his way. Dean remained active with NLTA
during this ordeal and continues to remain active today. Dean is very much a family man as well. Despite his busy
schedule, Dean ensures that he has quality family time which he enjoys immensely. He is very dedicated to his
family, the teaching profession, and to NLTA.
I truly believe that Dean Ingram would make a great NLTA President! Dean has the commitment, knowledge,
character, determination, and exemplary work ethic to be a great NLTA President. I would highly recommend Dean
Ingram for the next NLTA President. Dean, you have my vote!!!!
Tracey Payne ‐ President of Humber Branch, Classroom teacher – Corner Brook Regional High, Corner Brook
It us with enthusiastic support I endorse Dean Ingram for President of the NLTA. I have known Dean for several years in the capacity of Distance Education teacher and his involvement with the NLTA. In both areas Dean has worked hard and diligently with a genuine caring for the students, parents and teachers of this province. He is a well respected individual with a very pleasant disposition. Dean's knowledge of the intricacies of union work is second to none. He is a skilled communicator and I've witnessed firsthand his answering questions with polished confidence; always very attentive to his audience and a great disseminator of information. He has demonstrated great sensitivity to our union's needs and is very creative in solving problems. Dean is perceptive, emphatic, and committed to every task he takes on. He interacts well with colleagues; is articulate, polite, informed and very motivated. With strong conviction, tempered by sound judgement, Dean has excellent vision for education in this province. Without hesitation, I endorse Mr. Ingram unequivocally for the President of NLTA. Mary Foley – Former Branch President, Bremco Branch, Conche I have had the pleasure of knowing Dean Ingram over the past twenty years and have worked closely with him as a
Branch President, Provincial Executive member and on the Table Officers Committee of our Association during my
time as President of the NLTA. He has offered himself as a candidate for President of our Association and there is
no better, more qualified person to lead teachers through the coming years, than this gentleman; a man of
unquestionable integrity, commitment and dedication to teachers and our Association. Dean will bring a wealth of
knowledge relative to teachers' rights and our benefits structure to the role of NLTA President. As our current Vice‐
President, Dean was Chairperson of the Provincial Negotiating Team which secured the non‐discretionary,
guaranteed Family Leave Provision for all teachers, as well as the new annual PD day for teachers where "priority
will be given" to Professional Development needs identified by teachers at each school. These were huge gains for
teachers that the Association had been seeking for decades. Under Dean's Chairpersonship and leadership, these
gains were finally realized in our most recent Collective Agreement.
Dean's unwavering commitment to the profession, his colleagues throughout the province and most importantly
to teachers' rights and welfare, is indisputable. His sincerity and ability as well as his sense of ethics, fairness and
justice is second to none. Teachers can place their trust in this man because that trust is precious to him, as is his
respect for his fellow teachers which is absolutely genuine and sincere. Dean is absolutely the right person at this
6 | P a g e
time to step into the role of NLTA President. He will provide very strong and dependable leadership for teachers
and will protect and promote the personal and professional welfare of teachers at every turn.
I give Dean my fullest recommendation to you all, to become your next NLTA President. He will be fully accessible
to teachers, completely dedicated to the role and will be a President teachers will be proud of. Dean will be a
President which all members of our Association can fully rely on to fight for their rights, leading your Association
with honor, dignity and the utmost respect for teachers and the profession.
Sean Noah ‐ NLTA President 2007‐09
I would like to endorse Dean Ingram as candidate for President of the NLTA. I have known Dean professionally for
about ten years and I am very confident that his experience, knowledge and dedication deem him to be an
excellent nominee for this position.
Dean has been teaching for 23 years and is in his 14th year on the NLTA’s Provincial Executive, presently serving his
2nd term as Vice‐President. He is observably passionate about matters affecting teachers and students in our
province and across the country. Dean is always interested and keen to listen to teachers concerns and he is
committed to doing everything he can to represent our best interests. He consistently takes an active approach to
staying informed about topics of importance and in turn, uses this knowledge to assist teachers and help evoke
positive change.
Through his long‐standing involvement with the NLTA, Dean has made many significant contributions to teachers
in Newfoundland and Labrador. I believe that in the role of President, he will continue to make a difference.
Lisa Browne Peters ‐ High School Teacher, St. John’s
I first came in contact with Dean during the 2005‐2006 school year in my teaching responsibilities with the Centre
for Distance Learning and Innovation. Mr. Ingram was the principal of Swift Current Academy where I had
students taking online secondary French. At that time, Dean demonstrated very strong communication and
leadership skills in that position. Whenever I had a challenge with students from that school, Dean was always
available to discuss, analyse and problem solve in a timely manner. We spoke several times on the phone and
even brought students into the discussion to clarify goals and expectations.
Shortly thereafter, I have had the pleasure of working alongside Mr. Ingram as a well respected e‐teaching
colleague. We have participated in numerous PD sessions within the virtual teaching. I have always found Dean to
be cooperative, supportive, and understanding on both a professional and personal level. I believe that Dean
never loses site of the bigger picture‐ keeping our provinces’ students and the welfare of teachers at the forefront.
These are just a few examples of why I feel that Dean Ingram would be an excellent candidate for the role of NLTA
president. I wish Dean the very best as he ventures into this new role.
Sincerely,
Glenn Cake – CDLI E Teacher.

I have known Mr. Dean Ingram since June of 2012 when we worked together as markers on the provincial public
exam marking board. Since that time we have worked on several marking boards and committees, and as a result, I
feel like I can speak to Dean’s professional and personal attributes. I would like to offer a personal endorsement
for his seeking of NLTA president.
Since I have known Dean he has continuously demonstrated knowledge and skills relating to his profession. He
routinely takes part in professional development initiatives and always is extremely positive towards students,
teachers and learning. I appreciate his commitment to improving his teaching practices. He is a role model for all
teachers.
Besides being a wonderful teacher, Dean excels as a leader in education and possesses many positive
characteristics. He is a keen listener and therefore gives great consideration to what teachers say about daily
classroom practices and concerns. He is very competent at proposing plausible solutions to issues and concerns,
and is always willing to provide constructive advice and feedback. Dean is an intelligent man who understands
NLTA processes and is very connected to policies and practices and how they relate to teachers and students in
classrooms. I highly respect the time and efforts put forth by Dean in relation to all of his past and present NLTA
roles and duties. He is highly motivated to support teachers in their classrooms.
I cannot think of another educator more suited for leading the NLTA in the future. I will be voting for Mr. Ingram in
this upcoming election without hesitation.
Amy Blundon ‐ Teacher, Queen Elizabeth Regional High School, CBS
I am pleased to have this opportunity to endorse Dean Ingram for the position of President of the NLTA. I have
known Dean for many years now, as a fellow NLTA colleague, and as a friend. I met Dean while I was a member of
the Conception Bay South Branch Council during my tenure as a high school teacher and school counsellor in two
schools in the CBS area. During that time, I came to appreciate Dean’s integrity, work ethic, fairness, and
dedication to the issues affecting the teachers in our province. I have enjoyed the many opportunities to discuss
and debate the concerns of teachers with Dean during my attendance at many NLTA Joint Councils and at two
BGM conventions. His honest and pragmatic insight into the concerns of teachers sets him apart from others who
may seek higher office within the NLTA. Dean has many years of experience working on behalf of the teachers of
the province. It is work that is very important to him because he is our colleague, and he knows that what affects
us as educators, also affects him. He derives much personal satisfaction working on our behalf.
From my personal perspective, Dean is very warm and approachable, and willing to listen or offer advice
when needed. He visits schools, talks with school staffs, and knows their concerns. He has an extensive repertoire
of knowledge through his work with the NLTA and an exemplary record of leadership within the association. Dean
has worked tirelessly to make sure that teachers feel valued within our association. He knows that a healthy
teacher workforce contributes directly to positive student outcomes. As NLTA President, I have no doubt
whatsoever that he would continue this very important work on behalf of the teachers of this province, especially
in these uncertain political times. Without reservation, I support and recommend Dean Ingram for President of the
NLTA.

It is with full confidence that I recommend Dean Ingram for the position of President with the NLTA. He has been a member of the NLTA executive for a number of years and since 2012 he has served as Vice President. He certainly has an understanding and the experience to positively take on the challenge of being the NLTA President. As a Branch President, I have had the opportunity over the past six years to attend many provincial NLTA meetings. During this time, I have watched as Dean has continuously devoted his time to this organization. It is quite obvious that he has a sincere commitment to the teachers of this province. He not only speaks with passion but he listens with empathy and continuously embarks on a mission to make a difference. Dean is an excellent speaker and communicator and is known for being someone who can get to the root of issues, offering up real solutions. He has a great reputation for being dependable and can always be relied upon to do what he says. There is no doubt in my mind that he has everything it takes and more, to be a very successful president for the NLTA and will represent the needs all stakeholders. As president I feel that he will continue, as he does now, to bring professionalism, knowledge and integrity to the table. Bernetta Delaney – Branch President, Harton. Principal – King Academy. Harbour Breton.
I am so pleased that Dean Ingram has indicated his intention to run for President of the Newfoundland
and Labrador Teachers Union. He is an excellent fit for that position.
I have known Dean for 40 years. We graduated from high school together and we finished our degrees at MUN the same year. Dean worked hard as a classroom teacher and he was dedicated to be the best for every student he worked with. As a representative of the NLTA in the early days, he kept current with initiatives and represented his branch effectively. Currently as Vice President of the NLTA, Dean continues to talk to, visit and listen to the issues of teachers. He attends workshops and conferences and he shares his findings with his fellow colleagues and teachers in the province. I am confident that Dean will make an excellent choice for President of the NLTA. As a classroom teacher, I would have confidence in Dean’s leadership to represent all teachers in our province. Pamela Williams – Teacher, Upper Gullies Elementary, CBS. It is with great pleasure that I write this endorsement for Mr. Dean Ingram, candidate for President of
the Newfoundland Labrador Teacher’s Association, 2017‐2019. I met Mr. Dean Ingram through my
involvement with the NLTA several years ago. Mr. Ingram was very welcoming to new members; he was
a great source of information on many important topics and was always approachable. He has been
steadfast in his resolve for the betterment of the Association and all its members. He is very articulate
when communicating the views of the association, is always professional and diplomatic when
conducting business on behalf of the teachers of Newfoundland and Labrador. As a member of the
Provincial Executive I have witnessed firsthand the passion Dean has and shares for Education in our
province. Dean has vision for the association and the hard work and dedication he has shown over and
over again has proven how committed he really is. I firmly believe that the next couple of years are
9 | P a g e
going to be trying times in our in great province and in education. With Dean’s determination,
knowledge and ability I firmly believe that the Association will grow and thrive under his leadership.
Maureen Doyle‐Gillingham ‐ Provincial Executive Member/Classroom Teacher Baccalieu Collegiate,
Old Perlican.
What qualities make a great leader? When I ask myself this question I immediately think of the usual:
knowledge, organization, experience, & ability to lead. It is without a doubt that Dean Ingram possesses
all of these qualities in bounties. His experience in all areas of his professional, as well as his personal,
life have prepared him to effectively lead teachers through the upcoming two years. But I believe it is
his personal qualities that truly make Dean the best person to lead us into the challenging times ahead.
Dean is welcoming and kind, he makes time to speak to those around him and ensures they feel like part
of the team. He is caring and family‐oriented and understands that there is more to people than simply
what you see in front of you. His dedication to his NLTA family, as well as to his own family, is fierce and
unwavering. He will stand up and fight for the greater good while maintaining a high level of
professionalism, no matter what it takes. I have known Dean for many years through my involvement
with the Canadian Army Cadet Organization and through the NLTA. I have seen these great leadership
qualities grow in him over the years and would be very proud to have him serve as our next NLTA
President.
Danielle Stanley-Genge President, Conception Bay South Branch / Teacher at St. Edward’s School, C.B.S.
The following in an endorsement for Dean Ingram for President of NLTA. I had the pleasure of working with Dean on the last NLTA Negotiating Team on behalf of SAC and teachers across the province and he displayed exemplary leadership during a very long, challenging negotiating process. He displayed an excellent knowledge of the Collective Agreement & collective bargaining process. Dean works hard on a daily & weekly basis for teachers to better their current realities in the classroom, ensure collective agreement is followed, to improve teachers' working conditions & improve benefits in general for all in the profession. Dean has a wonderful sense of family and is in tune with teachers in all levels of the school system. Dean will provide the necessary strong leadership & vision in these interesting economic times. Dean's proven service & leadership will ensure NLTA moves in the appropriate direction on a go forward basis. Rob Matthews, Principal, Humber Elementary. Corner Brook
Managerial Leadership is perhaps the most essential ability a person can have when leading an
organization. The capacity to steer a group in the correct direction, during difficult economic, social and
political times, while overseeing the managing of countless committees and councils is a task that not
just anyone can perform. In my own role as Branch President, I have had the pleasure of working with a
great president in James Dinn and now I fully believe that with the end of his term, comes the need to
10 | P a g e
elect another person with the same focus and drive to push our union forward. Dean Ingram, I believe,
is such a person. His knowledge of the issues that affect teachers, students and anyone involved in the
Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association is not only invaluable but unmatched. His dedication
to the organization has been shown through his actions rather than relying simply on words and the
current reality in our province highlights the value of living up to our promises and acting as we have
said we will. I believe that Mr. Ingram will make an effective and collaborative president, working for
the members and with them to find solutions to ongoing and new issues and to create and stronger,
better NLTA for the teachers and students of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Nathan Gidge – Former Branch President, Bay D’Espoir Branch, Principal – Jane Collins Academy, Hare
Bay.
I have followed Dean's NLTA involvement for many years. I had the opportunity to get to know Dean on
a more personal level when I became a Branch president in 2012. Right from the start he impressed me.
At that very first Joint Council I received a warm welcome and an offer to provide assistance to my
Branch as needed.
Dean has been involved with the NLTA for more than 20 years in various capacities. In his role as a
member of the Executive, Dean has served on a number of committees including Chair of the
Negotiating committee during the most recent round of collective bargaining. Dean's experience is
broad in scope and varied. Dean is well versed with regards to the many issues facing teachers. He
serves the Association with pride. Dean is a very personable and down to earth individual. Dean is a
team player who demonstrates strong leadership skills. He has worked many tireless hours on behalf of
the Association. His passion for advocating on behalf of the teachers of this province is admirable.
I would strongly recommend supporting Dean in his pledge for President of the NLTA. His extensive
knowledge of NLTA issues and his strong commitment to the teachers of this province make him an
excellent candidate!
Donna Reddick, Provincial Executive Member, Grade 4 Teacher St George's Elementary, CBS.
I met Dean Ingram at BGM 2011. Since then I have been witness to Dean's passion for teaching and
learning in Newfoundland and Labrador and his steadfast resolve to safeguard teacher's well being. He
is keenly aware that teacher's in this province are second to none and recognizes their dedication, hard
work, and love of the craft. But make no mistake, Dean is also deeply concerned about the challenges
teacher's face during in this province's tough economic and political climate. I have heard him speak
about increases to teacher workload due to budget cuts and increased classroom size, the resultant
teacher stress, and the toll it is taking on mental health. He understands the issues of classroom
resourcing and what teachers need to deliver quality education. Most importantly, he knows why this is
important...to make the learning environment in each and every classroom in this province the absolute
11 | P a g e
best it can possibly be. Further, Dean gets the direct connection between a teacher's working
conditions and students' learning conditions.
I have no doubt that Dean Ingram is, and will continue to be, a tenacious advocate for teachers in this
province. He has the experience, determination, and knowledge necessary to lead. Moreover, he is
approachable, interested, thoughtful, and compassionate. Therefore, I have no reservations in
endorsing Dean Ingram for position of President of the Newfoundland Labrador Teacher's Association.
He will serve us well.
Dale Parsons ‐ GranForLine Branch President. Classroom Teacher, John Burke High. Grand Bank
I have learned three things about Dean: He is Diligent, Determined, and Dedicated to the philosophy of
bettering our students and schools through those that make the biggest difference: teachers. He will go
the distance and inspires others to do the same.
Brody Morrison ‐ Teacher ‐ Clarenville Middle School, Clarenville
I have known Dean for over 20 years and he is a person who is deeply committed to his work as a
teacher, vice principal and to his Teacher’s Association as a Branch President, a member of the
Provincial Association and now as Vice President of the Provincial Association.
Mr. Ingram’s dedication to our association is one of his most valuable assets and extends beyond his
involvement locally and provincially. Dean is an outstanding person with exceptional leadership skills,
very good interpersonal skills, and wonderful work ethic. On a personal note, Dean has been there for
me to ask questions regarding my rights as a teacher and he would promptly return calls when other
teachers had questions to be asked.
Dean has the ability to address our needs in a professional yet empathetic manner. He is highly
regarded by the teachers for his strong teamwork and leadership skills.
Finally, I always found Dean very approachable, personable and conscientious, and he has a very
positive attitude about work and our Teacher’s Association.
I would not hesitate to vote for him as our Provincial President for Newfoundland and Labrador
Teacher’s Association.

very capable hands under his leadership. I wish him all the best.

It is my pleasure to write this endorsement letter for Mr. Dean Ingram for the position of Presidency
with the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association. I have known Mr. Ingram for approximately
10 years while working with the education system in Newfoundland and Labrador. I am very confident
in saying that he carries himself with a great deal of integrity no matter the situation in which he is
provided. He has been a wealth of information and has always been able to answer my questions, as
well as to ease concerns that I have had while working as a Speech‐Language Pathologist. Mr. Ingram
goes above and beyond what is asked of him and does so in such a professional manner. He is also a
very well respected person within his community. He is clearly able to achieve success and would be an
excellent candidate for President
Tracy Slade‐Greening ‐ Speech‐Language Pathologist, Clarenville. I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to endorse Dean Ingram for the President of the NLTA.
I have known Dean since I became Labrador West Branch President back in 2009 and have always been
impressed with his passion, knowledge and commitment to the NLTA. Dean has showed much
professionalism in any role that I have seen him in, since my involvement. His commitment and
knowledge of the issues, especially collective bargaining, is impressive! His current role as Vice‐
President of the association has left him in good stead to be the next leader of the NLTA. Good luck
Dean!
Peter McCormack – Former Branch President, Labrador West. Labrador City
I have known Dean since I attended my first NLTA BGM in 2003. During the past 13+ years, and more
particularly over the past 9+ years as an NLTA Provincial Executive member, I have had the pleasure of
working very closely with Dean on behalf of our teaching membership. As a long standing member of
our Provincial Executive and someone who has contributed to our profession throughout his entire
teaching, administrative and NLTA career, including as a two‐term NLTA Vice‐President, I am confident
that Dean Ingram will be a strong, informed, passionate and well‐prepared President of our Association.
Dean has served many roles within NLTA, but I believe his strongest asset is his intimate knowledge of
14 | P a g e
our Collective Agreement and the entire Collective Bargaining and Negotiations process. Dean has
served as Chair of both committees and has proven himself to be a leader in both his knowledge of
contractual language and in his efforts to continually grow our Collective Agreement, even in the
presence of difficult economic times. That is the situation we find ourselves in during the upcoming
round of negotiations. It is highly probable that we will be into a new Presidential term before we have
forged a new Collective Agreement. Therefore, I believe it is of paramount performance that we elect a
President who has a global knowledge of the issues important to the teachers of Newfoundland and
Labrador. In good economic times, Dean would be a very good choice as NLTA President. In our current
climate, where experience is a must, I believe Dean Ingram is not just a very good choice for NLTA
President, he is the only choice. I am delighted to endorse Dean's candidacy and I encourage our entire
membership to stand with him as he will for all of us.

NLTA Provincial Executive ‐ 2007 to Present
Chair ‐ Collective Bargaining Committee ‐ 2015 to 2017
Dean Ingram was a young and energetic delegate when we met at an Annual General Meeting 21 years
ago. His conviction and impressive knowledge of issues facing teachers during that time would have
compared to senior teachers who had years in our profession. My 25 years of involvement with the
NLTA has provided me with opportunities to work with Dean on issues from our local branches to
current concerns at the executive level. During this time Dean routinely based his decisions on the well‐
being of teachers and the improvement of our profession.
As we enter into a new round of collective bargaining, coupled with the uncertainty of government's
intentions, we need strong and experienced leadership. There is no doubt that Dean has the credentials
necessary to take a lead role in negotiating our next collective agreement.
With Dean's numerous positions within our association accompanied with his extensive teaching career,
I believe that he is the best candidate to lead us. It is without hesitation that I am endorsing Dean
Ingram as candidate for President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teacher's Association.
Craig C. Hicks – Provincial Executive Member (2013 – Present), Assistant Principal, Phoenix Academy,
Carmanville.
I am pleased to have the opportunity to endorse Dean Ingram for NLTA President. I have known Dean
since childhood and have watched him progress through the educational system as student, teacher,
administrator, and most importantly his roles in the NLTA. In his most recent role as our Vice President
Dean has demonstrated strong knowledge, dedication and voice in issues related to collective
bargaining, classroom support and teacher employment issues. All issues that are so important to
teachers today in NL.

Dean is an exciting, confident voice for educators. He has shown tremendous dedication to seeking
answers and fighting for the rights of teachers in a time when government is stripping the educational
system. He is constantly informing his members through social media and NLTA publications about
meetings he is attending and issues at hand. He gladly responses to email and calls and if he does not
have an answer for you he will find someone who does!
I feel Dean’s success as Vice President makes it a common sense choice to vote for him as NLTA
president. You have my vote Dean! I will gladly be a voice in the Stephenville Area on your behalf. Good
Luck! Tina Anderson‐ Classroom Teacher, St. Michael’s Elementary, Stephenville Crossing
Through my involvement with the Carbonear Branch of the NLTA, I have had the opportunity to meet
many wonderful individuals who are passionate about Education. One of those such individuals is NLTA
Presidential Candidate Dean Ingram. Dean strives on both personal and professional levels to improve
the quality of education and teaching conditions for students, teachers, families and communities.
Through his 14 years of involvement on the executive level of the NLTA he has acquired a wealth of
knowledge that is needed to effectively lead the approximately 8000 teachers in the province of
Newfoundland and Labrador in today’s concerning times. Dean has experience in carrying out different
roles within the NLTA including Branch President, four years of NLTA Vice President, and a member of
the collective bargaining team for two rounds.
Dean is a down to earth individual who is approachable and knowledgeable about the issues we face in
our classrooms. He is an empathic listener who offers problem solving approach es to deal with these
issues. He strives to ensure that our working conditions are ones that promote safe, caring and optimal
learning opportunities for all.
Teachers in Newfoundland and Labrador are in need of a strong and experienced leader to be our voice
in current tough economic and societal times. Dean is the voice that our association needs. I am proud
to endorse Mr. Dean Ingram in his bid as the NLTA Presidential Candidate.

I would like to endorse Dean Ingram for the President of the NLTA. I have had the pleasure of meeting
Dean when I became involved with the Ingornachoix Branch of the NLTA, approximately 15 years ago.
He is a very professional and knowledgeable gentleman. His accessibility and willingness to provide
professional assistance whenever he is contacted is very commendable. His dedication to the Education
system of Newfoundland, and to all stakeholders in this system, certainly is a testament to his suitability
for the position of NLTA President.

Please accept this as my endorsement for the support of Dean Ingram’s nomination for the position of
President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association.
I have known Dean for approximately seven years when I first met him at a School Administrator
Conference. Since that time, I have been impressed with his commitment and passion for NLTA. Dean
brings a sincere and professional approach to all discussions regardless of the issues. Dean has been
supportive of all NLTA initiatives for several years and his recent role as the Vice President of NLTA has
prepared him for that next step as President of the NLTA.
Peter Burt ‐Assistant Principal, Corner Brook Intermediate
In these difficult times our union is in need of a strong, knowledgeable, experienced voice to represent
the teachers of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are all well aware of the difficult times and
negotiations ahead of us given the current state of our province’s fiscal situation. I am offering support
on behalf of the Ganova Branch to Dean Ingram, our current Vice‐President, for the position of the new
President of our Association.
I have worked with Dean for almost 10 years in both our association and his position with CDLI. Dean
knows our association inside and out. His knowledge of our collective agreement is second to none.
Dean has sat on too many committees to name here, including being chair of many. Dean has been a
table officer since I began attending Joint Council and BGM’s. He has shown his ability to interpret and
decipher our collective agreement, as well as ensuring the association’s business is conducted according
to our constitution and bi‐laws over these years. If I have a question I want to know the answer to,
Dean is one of the first people in the room I approach for clarification and an answer. Dean also is in
touch with numerous teachers throughout the province while performing his duties as a CDLI classroom
teacher. This offers Dean the unique opportunity to hear the issues and concerns of teachers
throughout the province. During these tumultuous times we need a strong experienced voice. Dean
Ingram is that voice. Please join me in supporting Dean as President of our Association.
Chad Horne, Principal Cottrells Cove Academy, Cottrells Cove.
I am certainly pleased to be given the opportunity to indorse Dean Ingram for the position of President
of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association. I have known and worked with Dean in
various capacities, both NLTA and in the field of education for over 20 years. Dean is a hard working,
conscientious individual who always brings his best to every endeavour. His commitment to the NLTA
and the teachers of this province is demonstrated at every meeting and gathering I have been there
with him. Dean has a deep understanding of the issues and challenges facing education as we move
towards a new collective agreement. His experience at both the branch and the provincial level
culminating with his position of NLTA Vice President give him the experience, insight and knowledge to
tackle the challenges that he will face as President of the NLTA. Best of luck!

Dean Ingram has proven himself to be a committed member and leader of the NLTA. He consistently
demonstrates a sense of eagerness to the profession, and a willingness to listen and to engage with
teachers across the province. His previous and continued experience at the executive level of the NLTA
has provided him the opportunity to network and work with some of the finest educational leaders
across the province and across the country. Dean is a team player that will undoubtedly help shape,
enhance and protect the integrity of our members.
Angela Dawe – Classroom Teacher, Brother Rice Junior High, St. John’s
As a former president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association and the Canadian
Teachers’ Federation, I have a working knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses within our
educational system. I am also cognizant of the fact that it takes team effort and strong, effective
leadership to bring about change of a positive nature.
Over the years the teachers of Newfoundland and Labrador have been fortunate in having visionary
leadership to guide them through the myriad levels that comprise the educational domain. Now, on the
eve of another NLTA Presidential Election you must, once again, focus your attention on who will best
provide the critical, experienced leadership that will be needed to carry you into the future! In my
humble opinion, the one person who has demonstrated dedication, determination and commitment to
the Association and the teachers of this province is Dean Ingram.
Personally, I am familiar with much of the work that Dean has been involved with over the years. He has
been on the front lines helping to shape policies for the benefit of the teachers of Newfoundland and
Labrador. His keen interest at both the provincial and national level of governance has been
instrumental in preparing him to shoulder the responsibility if elected as President of the Newfoundland
and Labrador Teachers’ Association. It would be personally satisfying to know that NLTA will remain
vibrant and strong with Dean at the helm.
It is with great pleasure that I now endorse Dean Ingram as a candidate for President of the NLTA.
Winston Carter – NLTA President, 2001‐2003
Please accept this letter as my recommendation of Dean Ingram for the position of NLTA President. Over
the past ten years, in my role as vice president/president of the Rushoon/Terrenceville Branch, I have
come to know Dean as a very intelligent person and a truly committed and dedicated individual. He is
very passionate about the issues facing teachers today and his sincerity and genuine concern is very
evident.
Through his involvement at the branch level and as vice president, Dean has acquired a great deal of
experience and knowledge. He has already dealt with a huge variety of issues and it is obvious that he
understands the day to day operations of our association. Since I met Dean I have always been
impressed with how well he knows and understands our collective agreement and how well he can
articulate the information contained within. Dean has always been able to answer any of my questions
as I am sure he has done for many others. I have always found Dean to be very friendly, helpful and
approachable and a person with a strong desire to do the best job that he can do.
18 | P a g e
I am more than confident that Dean is ready to transition from Vice President to President and I have no
doubts that our association well be in very good hands if Dean should become our next President.
Patrick Whiffen Rushoon/Terrenceville Branch President, Classroom Teacher, Fortune Bay Academy,
St. Bernards.
Please accept this letter as a full endorsement of Dean Ingram, as a candidate seeking election as
President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association. In my time with the NLTA as a VP
and President of the Marconi Branch as well as in my roles as Chair of the School Board Teacher Liaison
Committee, and member of various other committees, I have always found Dean to be very
approachable in any circumstance, to carry a broad knowledge base of issues that we face as members
of the NLTA, and to be balanced and reflective in working with the membership in finding a clear way
forward on any number of fronts. What is particularly noteworthy is that Dean has always been very
quick to respond to any inquiry I, or any members have made on a very broad range of subjects from
retirement and pension plans to challenging students and supervision duty. As part of his response, he
is always upfront and clear in offering rationale for decisions made or to be made and, in those
circumstances where issues may be particularly complex, he will always seek advice or direct us to
where we can best go to get the support we need.
In short he has been a solid advocate for all members, a tireless advocate for educators and all
stakeholders in education, and a constant support for teachers in both their professional and personal
lives.
Ches West. Marconi Branch President. Classroom Teacher. Macdonald Drive Jr. High. St. John’s
I have been an active member of the NLTA for the past fifteen years and have served on the
Clarenbridge Branch since 2006. Since that time I have known Dean Ingram as a member of joint council
and most recently as NLTA Vice President.
To begin, I have never before publically endorsed a candidate for anything: including NLTA, MP, MLA,
Premier, Prime Minister or even president of the school’s student council. However, in this case, I gladly
support Dean in his endeavors.
Dean has proven that he is a vocal, passionate and dedicated member of the NLTA. When asked to
speak to the members of our branch, he has always been very accommodating and has done so with
professionalism and integrity. He has supported our efforts to build a stronger voice for teachers and
parents in our area and has always represented the NLTA with poise. Most recently, Dean spoke at a
rally to save an addition to Riverside Elementary School in Clarenville. Dean was able to articulate
exactly how the members of our school community were feeling but did so with much more poise than
most of us in attendance.
Dean brings with him a passion for the profession, a desire to protect the integrity of the education
system and handles situations with remarkable tact. In addition, he is very knowledgeable when it
comes to affairs of the NLTA and makes a conscious effort to listen to teacher concerns/questions when
19 | P a g e
give the opportunity. I believe that these are strong characteristics that represent the NLTA and
therefore, proudly support him.
Jolene Primmer – Classroom Teacher, Riverside Elementary, Clarenville.
I am sincerely pleased to nominate Dean for the position of President of the Newfoundland and
Labrador Teacher's Association. I have known Dean for almost two decades and have witnessed his
consistent professionalism as both an educator and advocate for our association. Dean has always
answered my inquiries with an excellent level of knowledge and insight. He has always been forthright
when discussing policy and very diplomatic in debate. I have been to a number of Joint Councils and
BGM's and have always been impressed by his skill to arrive at the core of an issue and then offer
workable solutions.
Another noteworthy trait I find about Dean is his accessibility. If I make an inquiry, Dean will usually
respond on the same day or the next.Dean is a guy who does his homework and is results driven. He's a
no nonsense person who isn't intimidated by those across the table. These traits reflect true leadership
qualities.
I feel Dean would make an excellent president for our association. He has the interpersonal talents,
negotiating skills, and humility to be the voice, our voice, in the next two years.
Earle Pike – Branch President, Trinity, T. Bay. Classroom Teacher Bishop White School, Port Rexton
As the president of the Baie Verte Branch for the past four years, I have had many opportunities to work
with the provincial executive and other representatives of the NLTA from across the province. While this
can be a daunting experience for a new teacher, I was personally impressed with the level of support
and encouragement expressed by those around me. Dean Ingram was one such peer who took the time
to welcome me to the fold and help me along the way. It was very apparent that Dean exhibited a
genuine interest and enthusiasm for supporting new members. The same can be said for his
commitment to this profession and the students he works with. As a CDLI teacher, Dean has traveled to
many of schools on his caseload to personally connect with his students as a means to improve their
learning experience. Dedication is an invaluable attribute in this line of work and Dean has proven his
level of devotion to all aspects of the teaching profession.
As our current vice president, Dean Ingram has always demonstrated himself as a knowledgeable and
passionate advocate of our association. His level of understanding of the inner workings of this
profession is second to none and is committed to improving the workplace demands of teachers.
Furthermore, he has always presented himself as an approachable and welcoming ambassador, who
shows sincere interest in the well‐being and success of his colleagues and students. I personally feel that
Dean Ingram would be an excellent choice for the presidency of the NLTA.

I have known Dean Ingram for more than twenty years as he has been a colleague of mine in the field of
education. Dean has been rigorously active in NLTA circles since I have known him. Whether at the
school, branch or provincial level he has been committed to promoting the welfare of teachers and their
working environment(s) in a manner that has earned him my admiration and respect. He has advocated
successfully for many special interest groups over the years, including my own fraternity of guidance
counsellors and educational psychologists.
Dean’s understanding of the education system, its teachers and their issues is quite thorough. Through
his extensive travel throughout the Province he has earned a unique understanding of the issues
affecting teachers in all areas. His knowledge of the NLTA Collective Agreement, our Code of Ethics,
Standards of Practice pertaining to various groups, etc, is second to none. Combined with his
commitment to family and his passion for helping others, I have no hesitations in asserting that Dean
Ingram would hold the office of NLTA President in the highest regard and, in my opinion, will
undoubtedly earn the respect of those he will serve.
Derek Elliott Reg, Psychologist Vista Region, NLESD Dean Ingram has been a dependable, practical, commonsensical contributor at executive table of NLTA
since before my presidency in 2005‐07. He knew the issues back then and his many years of continuous
service at executive table since that time have ensured that he knows them even better now. If you
want someone to lead NLTA into the future and to ensure that NLTA remains on an even‐keel Dean
Ingram is that leader. I strongly endorse his leadership.
Kevin Foley NLTA President (2005‐07)
It is without reservation that I support Dean Ingram as Presidential Candidate in the upcoming provincial
NLTA election. Over the past number of years, I have come to know Dean to be a genuine individual, a
person aware of the growing concerns of classroom teachers yet optimistic as to the future of education
in our province. Dean’s service years as both a teacher and member of the Provincial Executive offer a
strong candidacy, grounded in experience and political insight.
When I reflect on Dean’s commitment to teachers, I remember how he makes the effort to support
others, how he asks you about work but also about your family. Dean underscores the importance of
healthy teachers. A strong Presidential Candidate like Dean Ingram knows that teaching is not only
about outcomes but also the wellbeing of educators.
I know that Dean will work hard as President and strive to make a difference. I fully endorse Dean
Ingram’s candidacy for President of the NLTA.
Tom Kennedy – TESIC President, Classroom Teacher. Eric G. Lambert School, Churchill Falls

students in our province. He has extensive experience in our Association, including the past four years as
our Vice President. He has served us well over this time and he has the necessary experience to lead us
into the next two years.
We are continually facing new issues and expectations and we need someone with Dean’s experience
and expertise at our helm to ensure our concerns are being heard and our needs are being addressed.
When you elect our next President in December, please give Dean Ingram your consideration and
support.
Colin Short ‐ NLTA Provincial Executive Council 2015‐2017, Classroom Teacher. St. James Elementary.

I would like to offer my recommendation of Dean Ingram for the position of President with the
Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association. I have known Dean for many years and in many
capacities, as a friend, teacher, member of the NLTA executive and as vice president of our association. I
feel strongly that Dean has the personality, understanding and the experience to serve as the new
President of NLTA.
As a teacher and Branch President, I have had the opportunity to work with Dean on many occasions to
resolve issues related to both teachers and students in the education system. Throughout his career, he
has gained the knowledge and experience to deal with these issues and has brought this knowledge to
the association. He speaks with determination and thoughtfulness and delivers on his promise to seek
resolution to issues brought forward by teachers.
I feel Dean would be a good role model in representing the teachers of this province and his passion and
dedication to the association, as shown in his many years of service, would be an invaluable asset in his
new role as president of the association.
Dean, you have my full support and confidence as you move forward into your new position of serving
the teachers and the association of this province.

association throughout his career and has extensive knowledge of all aspects of the NLTA from
governance to operations. His dedication to the profession and to the teachers of this province is and
always will be a huge priority for him. I have seen him grow and develop in the association in a variety of
roles and have watched him flourish in his current role as Vice President. Dean is always available to
listen and provide guidance and assistance when needed. The association would be in very capable
hands under his leadership. I wish him all the best and look forward to working with him as NLTA

I am writing to show my support for Dean Ingram for position of President of the Newfoundland and
Labrador Teacher’s Association. During my terms as Vice President and President of the Long Range
Branch I have witnessed Dean’s dedication to the workings of the Association. His active involvement on
committees at the Provincial level shows he is willing to commit time and energy to issues facing
teachers in this province. He has a strong understanding of the workings of the Association and its role
within our education system, not only from the perspective of teachers, but also from that of the
students and parents. He has served on provincial bargaining committees which provides valuable
insight into negotiating with our employer. Through his experience with CDLI he has gained significant
knowledge of issues affecting education in all areas of this diverse province. For these reasons I do not
hesitate in offering my support to Dean as President of the NLTA provincial Association.
Anne Payne Branch President of Long Range Branch
I am pleased to write this letter of endorsing Mr. Dean Ingram for the position of NLTA president. I have
known Mr. Ingram for about ten years through his various positions with the NLTA.
I met Dean through my involvement with the NLTA’s Physical Education Special Interest Council (PESIC)
at Leadership Seminars hosted by the NLTA. At that time Dean was an executive member of the NLTA,
providing advice, leadership and guidance to all special interest councils (SICs), many of which were in
their formative years and others like PESIC that were well established. His knowledge of the SIC
structure enabled him to contribute to organizational discussions and his general curiosity and sincere
willingness to learn about individual councils showed his aspirations to help teachers of our province
grow and flourish.
Before the addition of Provincial Executive Liaisons working with SIC’s, Dean indicated to PESIC of his
particular interests in our work. He provided invaluable help and was a mentor to me as I attended the
NLTA BGM’s as PESIC’s president and got my feet wet submitting and speaking to resolutions and
following meeting protocol in general. He was a natural fit as PESIC’s first liaison on the provincial
executive. Dean attended PESIC meetings, helped with conference organization and maintained
consistent communication providing us with a strong voice at the provincial table. What stands out in
Dean’s leadership to me is his willingness to learn about the issues that face physical education teachers
and question and provide constructive feedback to our council and me personally as president. His style
and support allowed our council to improve in needed areas and helped me further develop my own
leadership qualities.
For the above reasons I feel Mr. Dean Ingram is an excellent candidate for the position of President of
our NLTA.

It has been my pleasure to have known Dean Ingram as a dedicated educator in the Vista Region of
ESDNL for many years before my involvement with NLTA as Branch President. In 2003 when Dean was
first elected to Provincial Executive Council, I witnessed the drive and determination he had and
continues to have as an advocate for teachers’ concerns province wide. Throughout the years Dean has
chaired and been involved with numerous NLTA committees, expanding his knowledge of the internal
workings of our Association. His understanding of our Collective Agreement is extensive, having chaired
the negotiating team in our last contract. During my years as Landfall Branch President, Dean was our
branch contact on Provincial Executive and always kept in touch with the issues of the day and was
readily available to attend Branch meetings when requested. As NLTA Vice President Dean’s awareness
and concerns of the teachers province wide has given him a solid foundation of the direction the
Association should go. Even though I am recently retired and cannot vote, I strongly urge all active
teachers to support Dean Ingram’s candidacy for NLTA President.
Paula Smith. Former NLTA Landfall Branch President /Group Insurance Trustee NLTA Provincial
Executive member
I have known Dean since his first involvement with NLTA as a branch president and he has always fought
to improve things for teachers. Dean is a strong team player who will work with others to better the
working environment of teachers. He is an honest and hardworking individual who will not be weak in
negotiations with government. With the province’s current fiscal situation and the cuts already made to
education, we cannot allow government to strip our contract. Dean has been an excellent Vice‐President
over the past four years as he is open to quality dialogue at Joint Council and BGM to make the NLTA
stronger and better. As a teacher, administrator and branch president, I have complete confidence that
Dean is the best choice for NLTA president as we head into contract negotiations and to lead the NLTA
for the next two years.
Jeffrey Blundon ‐President, Appalachia Branch. Principal – Appalachia High School. St. Georges.
I have known Dean Ingram about ten years. I have watched him serve the NLTA in different capacities. In
the various positions he has held, he has been dedicated to achieving the best result for members of the
NLTA and the Association.
I feel that Dean will represent the NLTA well as president and I have no problem endorsing him as a
candidate for this position. Dean’s past executive experience, along with his drive and determination,
will help him successfully accomplish this next step in his career.
Darren Goodyear ‐ Hamilton Sound Branch President, Classroom teacher, Phoenix Academy,

I have known Dean Ingram for many years and have seen him address and interact with the NLTA
membership in numerous professional appearances at BGM’s, Joint Council Meetings and Retirement
Dinners. Dean’s involvement in various capacities with this Association at the Provincial level and his
years of teaching contributes positively to his expertise and his educational narrative. He has the ability
24 | P a g e
to captivate his audience with his knowledge of the issues, his passion about the NLTA and what it
stands for and, of course, his concern for teacher welfare and student education.
It is without reservation that I endorse his candidacy in the upcoming Province Wide Election for the
2017‐19 NLTA President on Tuesday December 6, 2016.

It gives me great pleasure to endorse Dean Ingram’s candidacy of president of the Newfoundland
Teacher’s Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (N.L.T.A). Dean has been actively involved with the
N.L.T.A since he started his profession as a teacher. He has served in various positions within his local
branch, including branch president, and spent many years as member of N.L.T.A. Executive Council,
eventually becoming the Association’s Vice‐President for the past four (4) years. In all of these positions,
Dean has received the support of a great majority of his colleagues. This is because Dean is a hard‐
working, conscientious, and knowledgeable representative.
I have personally known Dean for twenty‐ plus years, and find him to be one of the most dedicated
N.L.T.A. members I have ever met. Upon first meeting Dean many years ago, he initially impressed me
about his knowledge of our collective agreement and association policies. Over these past years,
especially in his tenure as a member of executive council and vice president of N.L.T.A, his knowledge
has grown even more. At various joint council meetings and A.G.M/B.G.M’s Dean has been the go to
person on association policies and procedures when Association staff was unavailable. Dean willingly
imparts his understanding of the issues in a logical, matter‐of‐fact manner, never seeming to be aloof or
condescending. These are necessary qualities in a future president of our association.
As N.L.T.A President, Dean will represent his colleagues with the same dedication, hard work, and
professionalism he has put into his career as a teacher and representative in his numerous roles within
the association thus far. I am proud to endorse Dean Ingram for the position of President of N.L.T.A.
