Jonah’s Christmas Mission and Message

Hebrews: The Dailyness of Following Christ

Hebrews 12:28-13:6 28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire. The Changeless Christ 13:1 Let love of the brethren continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.

4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. 5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” 6 so that we confidently say,“THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”

•Author wraps up a glorious teaching about God’s glory and our ability to enter his presence through Jesus

•We’re set up to expect some incredible teachings about heaven and worship and exciting things- but we get a list of 8 things to do every day

•The Holy Spirit says Sundays are incredible times with God’s people in God’s presence •But if you want to worship God, do these

daily things from a changed heart

•This is the dailyness of faithfulness

•We don’t get to the “hero” status of ch. 11 without the proving ground of daily faith

•Acceptable worship= daily faithfulness

Hebrews 13:7-14 7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9 Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. 10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.

11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. 12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. 13 So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. 14 For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come.

•What does this dailyness look like? 1. Remember those teachers and examples of

faith who have gone before you 2. Stay true to the REAL Gospel about Jesus’

work on the cross 3. Sacrifice for the sake of the Gospel

•We are not living in the city that doesn’t fail in America!

•We must imitate Christ and move away from our comfort to meet a dying world in their greatest need

•vv.12-13; why we choose daily faithfulness much come from a heart in tune with God’s heart •Am I living primarily for comfort? •Am I preoccupied with the heart of Christ for

the 1-15 people in my life that need Jesus? •Will I suffer a bit so they can come with me to

the city that lasts?

•What can keep us from drifting into faithlessness when the dailyness of it all is difficult?

1. Jesus Christ’s unchanging steadiness •This daily living is supernatural stuff-

we need Jesus’ strength! •If we needed stuff or moral perfection or

perfect health God would give them to us! •We must eat at the table of grace every day so

we can access the strength of Jesus when we need it •Feast on what the cross means for you today!

•What can keep us from drifting into faithlessness when the dailyness of it all is difficult?

2. The blood of Jesus •We have been made perfect through Jesus •This blood purchase means we can trust God

with our daily lives •He was faithful to us on the cross and will be

faithful to all of his promises for the future •We can live like we are POSITIVE that God is for

us because of the blood!

•Are you struggling with worship, the dailyness of being faithful to Christ? •Come to him trusting him to save you from your

sins through Jesus right now! •Feast on Christ more and more, every day!
