GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
SPECIFICATIONNo
Revision: 1Date:

1. HEAT TREATMENT EQUIPMENT
1.1 Accuracy and uniformitySub-supplier shall prove the accuracy and uniformity of the heat-treatment equipment
used in the specific temperature-time range. For existing equipment, documented results of actual heat treatments performed in thepreceding year may be considered.
For new equipment, the accuracy and uniformity shall be measured on at least two testtreatments.
1.2 Loading / Unloading facilit ies.
Sub-supplier shall have suitable
means for loading / unloading bytransportation trucks, to minimizethe risk of damage of the castings.
1.3 Loading / Unloading o ffurnaces.
Furnace construction shall allow easyloading and unloading of the castings, tominimize risk of damage to the casting
and placing the castings in the furnaceproperly.
Castings shall be evenly distributed on thefurnace floor and in such a way that nodirect flame contact with the castings can
take place. No stacking of castings is allowed.

1.4 Furnace Floor
The furnace floor shall be
levelled out to prevent distortionof the castings during heat-treatment.
Next figure shows an exampleof a non-sufficiently levelled
floor.
1.5 Burner posi tion.
Burner position shall be such that nodirect flame contact with the castingcan take place.
Oil burner.

2. PROCESS CONTROL
2.1 PersonnelAll personnel performing heat treatments and temperature measurements shall be clearlyinstructed and qualified for these processes.
2.2 Written proceduresWritten procedures, relevant to the processes and documentation involved, shall be
available for reference at site.
2.3 Number of thermocouples
The number of thermo-couples to be used shall be adapted to the dimensions of thefurnace as well as the casting dimensions and distributed evenly over bottom and top
parts of the castings.Typical five couples are used, of which three couples are used for registeringtemperatures and two couples are used for control purposes.
2.4 Thermocouple attachment
A couple shall be in direct contact with the casting surface. No local welding is allowed.

Temperatures measured, shall be recorded on a calibrated instrument, during the full heattreatment cycle.
Each measuring instrument shall have a calibration sticker showing instrument
identification number, date of last and next calibration.

3. CALIBRATION
3.1 Calibration of Thermocouples
All thermo-couples used in theheat-treatment process arepurchased in a calibratedstate.
Thermo-couples can only beused in a relative short period
(average 30 treatments),
before couples are replaced. No risk for aging exists during
this period.
