CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL HEALTH EDUCATION
ADVANCED SPECIALTY CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY CARE LICENSING Community care licensing ofcers are employed by provincial health authorities and play an important role in protecting vulnerable people. They inspect and monitor private and public facilities for child care, youth residential care, residential group care, and long-term care in B.C. They also conduct investigations, provide education and support to licensees, and take action to bring facilities into compliance with the Acts and Regulations that govern them.
The certicate comprises 10 specialized courses with advanced curriculum that builds upon prior education and experience. Courses are delivered online, giving learners in BC and elsewhere maximum exibility. You can maintain your work and family commitments while you enroll in one or more courses per term until you complete the certicate.
Because the Advanced Specialty Certicate in Community Care Licensing program is the only one of its kind in Canada, graduates will be well-positioned to use their JIBC credential as leverage to seek employment as a licensing ofcer anywhere in the country.

Janet Lansbury’s respectful parenting advice (www.janetlansbury.com) is quoted and shared by millions of readers worldwide. She is the author of two bestselling books, Elevating Child Care: A Guide to Respectful Parenting and No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame. Janet is also the creator and host of “Janet Lansbury Unruª ed,” one of the most downloaded parenting podcasts on the web and recommended listening by The Washington Post. She also enjoys teaching weekly classes at RIE, consulting with parents and professionals, and spending time with her three children, ages 26, 22, and 17.
Janet will o¬ er ideas for how parents, educators and child care providers can guide children’s behavior with respect, while creating lifelong relationships with them that are loving and joyful.
Think you are good at your job because you love children? What about the ones that challenge you? Using these powerful questions as a framework, Lisa puts her own spin on Howard Gardner’s classic theory. This session is a far cry from simply listing various personality characteristics, needs and preferences. By providing easy to implement, yet possibly challenging, “comfort zone stretchers,” Lisa challenges teachers to make sure they are celebrating all of the children in the classroom, not just the ones they like.
Many Kinds of Smart! Understanding the Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Lisa Murphy is the founder and CEO of Ooey Gooey, Inc. where her mission is to assist in the transformation of the industry of early childhood education by o¬ ering 1) the best workshops and trainings; 2) the most up to date materials and resources; and 3) insightful conversations and connections through the power of social media. Lisa presents hundreds of workshops each year to both domestic and international audiences on various topics related to early childhood education.
Lisa has an M.Ed. (2013) in early childhood education from Champlain College in Vermont. She has authored four books, (the fi fth is in-press), produced dozens of teacher training DVD’s and is a popular keynote speaker at educational conferences. Her standing room only seminars have become nationally known for their information, humor, inspiration and energetic delivery. Frequently asked if she has ever been a stand up comic, Lisa practices what she preaches by blending the learning with the laughing.
Lisa is known for her ability to link hands-on activities to educational standards, her outspoken advocacy, and her commitment to creating child-centered, play-based early childhood environments. Her understanding of the importance of play is obvious in her personal and professional life.

This year, in partnership with the Province of British Columbia – Ministry of Children & Family Development, and the Government of
Canada, Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre (WCCRC) established the BC Professional Development Bursary Fund for early childhood
educators and other child care providers in BC.
Thanks to this bursary fund, 548 individuals received a 50% reduction in fees for their Friday & Saturday conference registrations. This bursary has provided access to many individuals who would not have otherwise
been able to attend the conference.
In addition, the BC Professional Development Bursary Fund provided 33 individuals traveling from out of town with funding to cover hotel
accommodations or expenses for the duration of the conference. Participants travelling over 75 km were eligible to apply for this bursary.
We have received overwhelmingingly positive feedback from individuals accessing these funds...
“I have never attended a conference in Vancouver before... Four sta from our centre are attending, and we are all equally excited to have the opportunity of a ‘higher’ level of professional development than we have
access to on Vancouver Island.“
Thanks to the BC Professional Development Bursary Fund, many early childhood educators, and other child care professionals throughout BC, were able to access the Children the Heart of the Matter conference, to pursue their professional development and gain valuable information, resources, and networking opportunities, that would otherwise have
been di²cult. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU.
For more information on the BC Professional Development Bursary Fund, go to:
https://eceprodbursary.org/
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MAKE THE CHILDREN THE HEART OF THE MATTER CONFERENCE A
SUCCESS!
TELL US HOW WE DID...Your opinion is important to us! The conference
evaluation will be emailed to all registrants at the end of the conference, and will also be available on our
website at childcareoptions.caWe look forward to your feedback and comments.
BC Early Learning FrameworkThe government of BC has updated the Early Learning Framework to recognize the new realities of children, families and communities. The BC Early Learning Framework guides and supports early childhood educators; primary school teachers, principals, and vice-principals; college and university educators and researchers; post-secondary students in early childhood and elementary education programs; StrongStart BC facilitators; other early years professionals; communities; governments; and families. The Framework establishes a vision for respectfully living and learning together. It supports the rich early learning experiences of children, provides a focal point for dialogue among British Columbians, and creates a common language and greater understanding of the vital importance of early learning for all young children.
