Each year, hundreds of babies are born with congenital heart disease in our country. Many of them are born to parents of modest financial means who deserve as much dignity as anyone else. This is where Heartbeat comes in: With equal measures of passion and compassion, and using every instrument at its disposal, Heartbeat gives these children a second chance at a normal life, restoring to their hearts the necessary functions needed for a healthy life. THE IRAQ PROGRAMOperations for Iraqi children and Training for Iraqi staff atHotel-Dieu de France

In the past, Iraq was known for having one of the best health care systems in the Middle East, but decades of war and international sanctions have devastated the country. Due to inter-family marriages, war, and malnutrition, an estimated 6,000 Iraqi children are in need of heart surgery. Children’s heart surgery is one of the most complex and difficult medical procedures and many heart centers around the world are not able to offer it on a regular basis.Heartbeat and La Chaine de l’Espoir International (based in Paris) signed an agreement with Ibn Al-Bitar Hospital, a specialized center for cardiac surgery in Baghdad, to offer surgery to a number of these children and to provide training for the medical staff. Delegations from Heartbeat and la Chaine de l’Espoir were sent to Baghdad for the signing ceremony. The agreement was also signed by Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital, the reference center for pediatric cardiac surgery in the Middle East, and Saint-Joseph University's Medical School. The surgery and training costs were covered by the French branch of La Chaine de l’Espoir. Thanks to this program, six Iraqi children and their parents were flown to Lebanon on December 27, 2011. They were accompanied by six members of the paramedical staff of Ibn Al Bitar Heart Center. The children all underwent successful surgical procedures and were sent back safely to Baghdad on January 16, 2012. The medical staff stayed in Lebanon for a few more weeks for more training in the Cardio Vascular & Thoracic Department at Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital. More children and staff members are expected to come throughout the year 2012.This program provides a unique opportunity for the Iraqi families and achieves multiple goals by treating children and offering invaluable training for the staff.

Al Waleed Bin Talal Humanitarian FoundationHotel-Dieu de France and Heartbeat5 YEARS of COLLABORATION

HUMANITARIAN CONTRIBUTION

4

Since June 2006, the Al Waleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation has donated a regular and substantial contribution to Heartbeat, which has enabled 30 open-heart operations each year. That was the beginning of a long-term collaboration in aid of sick children, under the direct and personal care of H.E. Mrs Layla Solh Hamade, vice-president of the Foundation. At Mrs Solh Hamade’s initiative, the Foundation has equipped the Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital with a new paediatric critical care unit as well as with necessary medical equipment, enabling Heartbeat to achieve another of its major goals: providing the highest medical technology available for the treatment of children with heart disease.

In December 2011, celebrating the anniversary of five years of successful collaboration, Mrs Solh Hamade renewed her support for Heartbeat and announced a substantial increase in budget contribution, as well as plans for a full and integrated program of medical and social assistance.

Recognized as one of the most prestigious management-consultancy firms worldwide, Booz & Company has multi-disciplinary teams that include some of the best graduates from the top-ranking schools in the world. As part of its corporate social responsibility program, Booz & Company offered its services pro-bono to Heartbeat. Initiated a few months ago, this engagement will be continued through to completion in 2012 with the presentation of a final document that will define a more accurate mission and vision for the association, as well as a governance structure redesigned to better fit future prospects and ventures.

Lebanon’s most prestigious venue has become the traditional host of Heartbeat’s main events. Whether it’s the glamorous gala dinner in La Salle des Ambassadeurs or the grand concert in the Theatre, the Casino, as well as offering complete and top-of-the-range technical and logistical assistance and equipment, mobilizes its devoted personnel to assist Heartbeat in the success of these events. And everything, absolutely everything, is courtesy of the Casino.

Aishti, the most prominent luxury fashion and lifestyle establishment in Lebanon, is generously offering its assistance to help a good cause. Since 2005, Aishti has been one of Heartbeat’s most active partners by engaging the leading brands it represents in helping the children we support.

Three years ago, Mr Tony Salameh, CEO, launched the idea of the Heartbeat annual gala dinner, and since became a major organizer of the event. Not only does Aishti offer most of the major gifts in the draw, it also devotes its time, resources, and all of

its personnel to the success of the event. In addition to its contributions at the gala dinner, Aishti takes actions through-out the year to support Heartbeat.

In 2011, Façonnable launched its exclusive shirt collection, and Aishti gave Heartbeat 10% of the sales of the 400 limited edition numbered shirts designed around the theme of the Lebanese flag.

Heartbeat's first sponsor since our creation in 2005 is going strong. By increasing their yearly support, Bank Audi is enabling us to grow beyond our potential ...

A Fiat 500, offered by Saad & Trad, was the main prize of the draw at the Heartbeat Gala Dinner at the Casino du Liban on May 28, 2011.

This exceptional and unforgettable evening, hosted by the renowned Lebanese explorer Maxime Chaya, was organized in collaboration with Aïshti, which donated a large collection of beautiful gifts. 460 Multimedia Store also contributed, donating electronic gifts boasting the latest in high technology.

MARKQUINNThe celebrated British artist, sculptor and painter, Marc Quinn attended the gala dinner. As a great contribution to Heartbeat, he offered his latest work, created especially for Heartbeat, the ‘Heart of Heartbeat’. The work of art was auctioned that evening. We would like to congratulate the new owner of this painting, which is considered to be a part of the famous collection ‘The Garden’.
