Donegal Presbytery

Highland hosted over 100 members of Donegal Presbytery last Tuesday, Feb 26th for our Winter gathering. After a creative and engaging worship experience in the Fellowship Hall, where several ministry stories were shared and table groups discussed, the entire Presbytery divided into 7 various Workshops throughout the church. Choices ranged from Practical Spiritual Practices to Immigration and Refugee Issues; from Faith Formation in the 21st Century to Mission Opportunities and the Connectional Church. I found it interesting that half focused on spiritual nurture and the other half on mission outreach – the same two-way emphases within our own Highland strategic plan to grow the church! After a delicious lunch provided by our super Hospitality Team, led by Linda Brackbill, we transferred to the sanctuary for a few business items of the Presbytery from two key teams: Discerning Gifts & Passions followed by Engaging our Mission. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon discussing and voting on the Proposed Amendments to the PC (USA) Book of Order. Special thanks to all the two dozen (+) Highland volunteers and to the entire staff, especially Donna Stettler, Cassidy Godber, Jon LeFever and Steve Smith for pulling together a seamless meeting! - Roger Rabey

A HUGE thank you to ALL

the volunteers who helped in the kitchen on Tuesday

JOY (Just Older Youth) Gathering Learns About Brain Health

Martha Harris, from Fizika Group, was guest at the 1st Quarterly Gathering of Highland's congregation. She led them in a dance session by video as she stressed the importance of exercise to maintaining great brain health. The group evaluated 32 different names for the group submitted by ten people to the "Name the Group Contest" deciding by a one vote majority of the top finalists: Just Older Youth (JOY) and "The 3-F Club: Food, Fellowship & Fun." This creative and imaginative group of Highland's congregation meets quarterly for fun, fellowship and food, hosting special events, activities and speakers for entertainment and learning. Look forward to joining the JOY Gathering at its next meeting slated for sometime in April, May or June!

Stewardship Corner Announcements

Hospital Visits hospital visits to members who may be in a local hospital. In the past, we were able to contact these hospitals and obtain information as to who has been admitted from our church. However, with new regulations put in place from HIPPA we are now unable to do this. If you, a family member, or a friend is in the hospital please do not hesitate to call the church office or send an einform us so one of our ministers can visit that member. Thank you!

At a church meeting, a very wealthy man rose to tell the rest of those present about his Christian faith. “I am a millionaire,” he said, “and I attribute it all to the rich blessings of God in my life. I remember the turning point in my faith. I had just earned my first dollar, and I went to a church meeting that night. The speaker was a missionary who told about his work. I knew that I only had a dollar bill and had to either give it all to God’s work or nothing at all! So at that moment, I decided to give my whole dollar– everything I had—to God. I believe that God blessed that decision, and that is why I am a rich man today.” He finished, and there was an awed silence at his testimony as he moved toward his seat. As he sat down, a little old lady sitting in the same pew leaned over to him and said, “ I dare you to do it again.”

Easter Lillies

A chance to brighten all our lives awaits you! Our flower chart in the narthex is looking sparse and we need your help. Please consider sponsoring flowers for our Sunday worship - in honor of, in remembrance of, or to celebrate God or people we cherish. After each service, the Deacons divide the Chancel bouquet and deliver the smaller arrangements to brighten the days of the grieving or the sick folks who are unable to join us in our worship. It’s a wonderful way that we can show service to others. There are plenty of open dates so please sign the flower chart today! Thank you for supporting this meaningful ministry!
