BYPASS BYPASS SURGERYSURGERYArteries or

veins from another part of the patient’sbody are “grafted” into the heart to bypass the arterial narrowing to improve blood supply.

Usually performed with the heartstopped.

ARTERIOGRAMARTERIOGRAMAn arteriogram is a special X-ray exam of your arteries.

Contrast (X-ray dye) is then injected into the artery while X-ray pictures are taken.

Arteriograms can accurately detect problems in blood vessels in and around the brain, lungs, heart, arms, legs, etc.

A stent is a mesh 'tube' inserted into a natural passage in the body to prevent flow constriction.

It may also refer to a tube used to temporarily holda passageway open to allow access for surgery.

Pacemakers are needed when the heart's natural pacemaker is notfast enough, or there is a block in the heart’s electrical system.
