Healthy Early Years Bronze Review Tool

Healthy Early Years Bronze Review ToolThe Healthy Early Years Bronze Review Tool is for use by all early years settings including Children’s Centres and Nurseries. You will need to complete the Healthy Early Years Bronze Review Tool to demonstrate that your setting takes a whole setting approach to health and wellbeing, by recording your setting’s practice and provision in promoting physical development, nutrition, oral health, emotional wellbeing, safety and immunisations.

The Bronze Review Tool is organised under seven headings:

1. Leadership and managing change

2. Policy and procedures

3. Learning, planning and resources

4. Ethos and Environment

5. Provision of support services

6. Practitioner workforce training and development, health and wellbeing

7. Partnerships with parents/carers, local communities and external agencies

Against each of the seven headings there is a table with 3 columns:

Column 1 – criteria and minimum evidence

Column 2 – links to Ofsted and EYFS

Column 3 – prompts against which to record your setting’s evidence

You can use this document to record and update your setting’s progress around healthy eating, physical activity, emotional wellbeing and safety under the seven headings. This could also provide evidence for your Ofsted Self Evaluation Form (SEF). When you have completed the Healthy Early Years Bronze Review Tool for your setting, you will need to send the following documents to the Healthy Early Years Coordinator.

Healthy Early Years Bronze Review Tool A copy of your Immunisation Statement, Healthy Eating Policy, Physical Development Policy and Oral Health Policy A copy of your menus (if applicable) A copy of the active travel survey

The Healthy Early Years Coordinator will send your application and supporting documents to the Steering Group who will review your application and will either approve it, or feed back suggested changes. Once approved, you’ll receive email notification of success along with electronic logos. Each setting to achieve the Healthy Early Years Bronze award will also be given a framed certificate.
