WHAT IS GUM DISEASE? • Gum disease is broadly described as sore and red gums. • It can vary greatly in severity from mild disease causing spontaneous bleeding of the gums, to severe disease causing loose teeth. Healthy Gums • No plaque/tar tar around teeth or gums • Pink healthy appearance • Gums tightly cuffed around teeth Diseased Gums • Build up of plaque/tar tar around gum line and in between teeth • Bright red appearance • Swelling and loose attachment of gums • Receding gum line Do your gums look sore or red?
