Health Communications Project Tracking Progress Document Christina Strong Tuesday, January 14, 2014 Met with Tabatha Dixon, employee in Benefits now restructured and called “Total Compensation and Wellness,”to personally discuss challenges she felt MSU Benefits office was having in their communications. Received her first top three choices. Used this information to complete the project management sheet. Finished benefits survey, sent to HR Communications Manager Bethany Balks for feedback. Thursday January 19, 2013 Met with Rashad Muhammad today to discuss survey questions for Benefits (being renamed Total Compensation and Wellness Office). Questions were refined to be more detailed and more comprehensive. Had an update meeting with HR Communications Manager Bethany Balks who cited potential problems in the survey questions set-up that may cause issues with the union. She also informed that talking with the boss of someone in the benefits department would be a good idea before talking to someone in the benefits office. There are steps to communication process that need to happen first like getting the okay or talking to the right people to avoid problems. Met with Rashad Muhammad today to discuss survey questions for Benefits (being renamed Total Compensation and Wellness Office). Questions were refined to be more detailed and more comprehensive.

Had an update meeting with HR Communications Manager Bethany Balks who cited potential problems in the survey questions set-up that may cause issues with the union. She also informed that talking with the boss of someone in the benefits department would be a good idea before talking to someone in the benefits office. There are steps to communication process that need to happen first like getting the okay or talking to the right people to avoid problems.

Received edits from Bethany Balks, made revisions and then sent final survey to Rashad Muhammad.

Made additional edits to Project Overview document primarily focused on language changes to reflect HR’s new changes and unit titles. Sent revisions to Bethany Balks and Rashad Muhammad.

Monday, February 3, 2014

Project Overview document and HR benefits survey was emailed by Bethany Balks to Renee Rivard, director of Total Compensation and Wellness for her approval.

Monday, February 6, 2014

Had a meeting with Kami Silk, communications researcher and professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and Rashad Muhammad to discuss the project overview document and HR Benefits Survey. Kami provided good feedback on expanding the survey and finding ways to get more information and where that information should come from.

Monday, February 10, 2014

Met with Rashad Muhammad and decided to change one question on the survey from one topic to asking about three topics. Need to mention and approve by Bethany. Next step would be for Bethany to contact Alice that oversees the Solutions Center where Renee Rivard suggested we collect most of the data from. Received an approval email from the Director of Total Compensation and Wellness Renee Rivard, which Bethany was CC’d on approving the Project Overview document and HR Benefits (now Total Compensation and Wellness, and Solutions Center) survey.

Tuesday, February 11

Alice Smith the person that is in charge of the Solutions Center approved the benefits survey. I wrote an introduction email to accompany the survey that will be sent out later today or Thursday. Respondents have one week to respond, deadline is Feb. 21. After that I will begin to analyze data. The meeting with Kami Silk, research mentor may be postponed.

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Survey was sent out today to 23 people in Total Compensation and Wellness and the Solutions Center. Received four responses on the same day.

Thursday, February 20

Met with Kami Silk, to discuss the results of the survey so far before the deadline date of Friday, February 21. Kami suggested creating a report no longer than 4-5 pages from the survey information.

Bethany Balks, communications manager sent out a survey reminder to Total Compensation and Wellness and Solutions Center staff.

Monday, March 24

Began analyzing date of the survey and coding.

Tuesday, March 25

Began working on first draft of HR Benefits Survey Report.

Thursday, March 26

Finished the first draft of HR Benefits Survey Report.

Met with Rashad Muhammad to discuss the results of the benefits survey so far. Discusses potential video creation tools as well, such as GoAnimate and Sparkol.

Monday, March 10, 2014

Created a working document of video ideas to be created sometime between March 2014 and April 2014. Sent to Rashad Muhammad for review and feedback before sending to Bethany Balks, communications manager.

Thursday, March 13Met with Kami Silk to discuss the HR Benefits Survey Report. Went over some suggested edits. Revising the report based on her suggestions.

Tuesday, March 25

Met with Bethany and Rashad and discovered that the survey results were not accurate based on the wording of the questions. Began to redevelop the survey for disseminating again. Decided to revise the questions and then recreate the report.

Monday, March 31

Met with Rashad Muhammad to start work on refining the HR Benefits survey questions. Created a test survey that Rashad and I took to test the results.

Thursday, April 3

The survey was resent to all the former participants to be done again once the Survey Monkey formatting issues had been addressed. Questions had to be revised. The email communication was approved by Bethany Balks, the communications manager.

Tuesday, April 9

A reminder email was sent for the communications survey.

Monday, April 14

Survey results were analyzed. Health Communications Survey report is being revised.

Thursday, April 17

Submitted second version of report to Bethany Balks for review

Thursday, April 24Worked on draft of Health Communications Project PowerPoint. Made final edits to healthcare report.

Wednesday, April 30 Made presentation of project to Bethany, MSU Global staff and others.
