    HEALTH AND SAFETY PROCEDURES

    The safety culture of an organisation is the product of individual and group values, attitudes,

    perceptions, competencies and patterns of behaviour that determine the commitment to, and the

    style and proficiency of, an organisations health and safety management.

    Organisations with a positive safety culture are characterised by communications founded on

    mutual trust, by shared perceptions of the importance of safety and by confidence in the efficacy

    of preventative measures.

    1.0 ACCIDENT REPORTING AND FIRST AID

    1.1 In Preston if someone is injured or falls ill, Dave Flanagan is the person appointed to take

    charge and call an ambulance if required.

    1.2 In case of emergency dial 999 and ask for appropriate service.

    1.3 Report all accidents, however minor, to the Principal in charge of the office, so that an

    investigation can be made thus preventing a reoccurrence. All accidents shall be recorded in

    the accident record book.

    1.4 The first aid box and accident record book is kept:

    Preston in the reception room in the red box in the bookcase room divider.

    London on the mezzanine floor in the cupboard under the sink.

    1.5 Obtain proper medical treatment to prevent infection.

    1.6 Unless you are confident of the correct action do not give treatment to others who may be

    injured. See that proper medical help is called.

    1.7 Report any hazardous situation you think may exist.

    2.0 SMOKING

    2.1 Please also refer to Forepoints Smoke Free Policy which has been produced to comply with

    government Health & Safety legislation which came into effect on 1 July 2007.

    2.2 Smokers will be segregated from non-smokers as far as is reasonably possible in all areas.

    2.3 Staff will be encouraged not to smoke on the Company premises and during working hours.

    2.4 Priority will be given to the needs of non-smokers who do not wish to breathe tobacco smoke.

    3.0 FIRE PREVENTION

    3.1 Please also refer to the document Fire Safety Risk Assessment which has been produced to

    comply with the fire safety law which came into effect on 1 October 2006.

    3.2 In Preston offices the fire extinguishers are maintained by a Forepoint appointed company

    (downstairs devices by David Melia & Co. (Tel 01772 909 111), and are located:

    1 landing outside the back room

    2 main studio to right of doorway onto landing

    3 loft to left at top of stairs

    Fire regulations and escape routes are indicated on or near backs of doors.

    3.3 In London offices the fire extinguishers and alarms are provided and maintained by Chubb

    (Tel 0800 321 666), and are located:

    1 ground floor either side of the entrance

    2 mezzanine floor to the left of the stairs and adjacent corner by the safety rail

    Fire regulations and escape routes are indicated around the building.

    To prevent fires and stop their spread employees must:

    3.4 Be tidy and take steps to minimise the volume of combustible materials. Desk areas are to be

    kept as tidy as practicable.

    3.5 Keep flammable liquids in the yellow hazard cabinet in the cutting room.

    3.6 Do not use potential ignition sources in areas where flammable liquids are stored or used.

    3.7 Switch off electrical appliances at the end of the working day.

    3.8 Regularly maintain and clean electrical cooking equipment to prevent build up of crumbs and

    other combustible material.

    3.9 Turn off heat sources at the end of the working day.

    3.10 Read instructions and familiarise with the use of fire extinguishers.

    4.0 WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FIRE

    4.1 Raise the alarm and inform person in charge.

    4.2 Make sure all persons leave the premises in orderly fashion. Offer to help disabled persons or

    others with special needs (eg parents with young children).

    4.3 Assemble as designated in the fire regulations and check all staff are present.

    4.4 DO NOT attempt to tackle a fire unless there is no personal risk and you are confident in the

    use of fire extinguishers. It is not safe to fight fires involving aerosols with fire extinguishers.

    5.0 HAZARDS

    5.1 Employees must pay particular attention to manufacturers guidance when handling or using

    hazardous materials or substances such as:

    spraymountwhichmustonlybeusedindesignatedspraybootharea

    lighterfluid/cleanart

    othergluesandsolventsensureadequateventilation.

    5.2 Such materials must be stored in the yellow hazard cabinet in the cutting room.

    5.3 Employees must take considerable care when handling or using scalpels and scalpel blades:

    donotleavescalpelslyingaroundwhennotinuse

    disposeofusedbladesonly in the yellow and red sharps bucket.

    6.0 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

    6.1 Report any broken or faulty electric plugs, socket outlets, frayed leads, loose leads, exposed

    wiring or faulty equipment. If in doubt isolate (switchoffand/orunplug).

    6.2 Do not tamper with electrically operated equipment or try to carry out repairs yourself.

    6.3 Before cleaning or making adjustments of electrical equipment, switch off and unplug at the

    socket outlet.

    7.0 COMPUTER EQUIPMENT

    7.1 All employees have access to the HSE document Working with VDUs, which outlines the

    regulations covering workstations, job and work environment, VDU, keyboard and other

    equipment. The document can also be downloaded online at

    7.2 Employees must ensure that they read and understand the issues regarding VDUs and health,

    and make the necessary adjustments for comfortable operation.

    8.0 GOOD HOUSEKEEPING

    8.1 Keep Fire Exits, gangways, passages, stairways and areas around equipment and fittings free

    from obstruction.

    8.2 Put away items of equipment and materials which are not in use.

    8.3 Clean up spillages, especially liquids, without delay. Ensure food scraps are wrapped before

    placing in bins.

    8.4 Report any damaged floor surface or other unsafe structure, furniture or the like, as soon as

    possible to the Principal in charge of the office.

    8.5 Ensure all windows and doors are shut and locked out of working hours.

    9.0 CONDUCT

    9.1 DO NOT run, especially when using the stairs.

    9.2 DO NOT lark about.

    9.3 Wear sensible footwear and clothing.

    9.4 Be careful when lifting, bend your knees and keep back straight. Do not lift anything too heavy.

    Get help if necessary.

    10.0 GENERAL SAFETY

    10.1 Before using any equipment or material make sure you read any instructions for its safe use.

    10.2 Do not leave doors or drawers open, close them after use.

    11.0 TRAINING

    11.1 Employees should receive all the training necessary to ensure that they are able to do their job

    safely.

    11.2 Keith Noble (Creative Director) is responsible for training in the Preston and London offices

    and for maintaining the training records as detailed in the Companys Procedure Manual.

    12.0 SITE VISITS AS A CONTRACTOR

    12.1 It is important when visiting a client that we understand the way in which safety is managed

    in their workplace, adhere to published policies and procedures, and be prepared to take any

    induction course or localised training that may be required.

    12.2 When visiting controlled sites (eg construction, nuclear, etc), all members of staff will be

    expected to report to the sitess reception before going on site and will comply with the

    Contractors safety regulations regarding the site.

    12.3 It is essential that Safety Certificates for site hoist, scaffolding and the like are examined before

    members of staff use such items of plant.

    12.4 Hard hats and other protective clothing will be worn at all times as directed by site rules.

    12.5 When visiting unoccupied building sites, or empty or derelict buildings, it is essential that two

    persons are present (whether both Forepoints employees or not).

    12.6 Portable ladders, temporary structures, scaffolding and the like must only be used in the

    presence of another person.

    13.0 FURTHER ADVICE AND GUIDANCE

    13.1 For further advice on specific points check first in this documentation. It may also be necessary

    to contact the local health and safety inspector who is there to give help and guidance.
