INTERNSHIP SITEI completed the majority of my internship at the AGFA building where St. Francis employs its Marketing and Business Development team.My desk was located in the AGFA building on the 4th floor.The AGFA building was located less than 4 minutes from the main hospital downtown.

INTERNSHIP DUTIESA major duty I was responsible for was taking minutes at all of the meetings I attended. Following this, I emailed the minutes to everyone who attended.Attended several health fairs throughout the community talking with the community about the different services St. Francis offers.Attended promotional health talks at the Simpsonville Senior Center that St. Francis sponsors once a month. I helped set up and got people to come listen to the talk.Organized the magazine distribution lists for the team through creation of an Excel spreadsheet that I updated regularly.Worked independently on several projects Organized promotional items for events Became a LEAN team member, group was organized to increase My Chart signups.

LEAN TEAMOne major part of my internship was being a member of a LEAN team project, a member of my department was leading the group.The goal of a LEAN project is to improve a process by reducing wasteful items.Our team’s assignment was to increase My Chart signups at Eastside Medical Group and Mountain View Family Medicine.We completed this by examining barriers, doing observations of MA’s (medical assistants), signing up patients, creating signs to help remind MA’s of key talking points to discuss with patients.

Our team successfully improved the process of singing up patients as well as increased the sign up rates at these two facilities.

PROJECTS Clemson Spirit of the Tiger HonoreeWrote ads about seven selected patients from St. Francis. A different ad was read at each home football game at Clemson.Attended Spirit of the Tiger Honoree football day at Clemson Memorial Stadium, honored patients were given a tour of the stadium.

MORE PROJECTS Financial Analysis

ProjectResponsible for organizing various hospital DRG procedures by type and profitability. There were over 1,000 inpatient procedures and DRG codes I examined and organized onto an Excel file.

Magazine Distribution Organization Project

Responsible for organizing the magazine distribution lists for the Business Development Team.Created a running Excel spreadsheet to make this process simpler for the team and keep track of changes.

SKILLS UTILIZED THE MOSTAt this internship I utilized organization skills and communication skills the most.Organizational skills helped keep track of individual projects I was working on as well as helped me know where I had to be at different times throughout the day.

I had little supervision at this internship, so it was important for me to stay organized and keep track of my own schedule.

Communication skills helped me be successful in the office and while attending external events.

I was able to speak with a variety of staff as well as members of the community at different promotional events I attended.

Clear communication was vital in the office when working with team members.
