DESCRIPTION

Having finished the series following Jesus' teaching in Luke we are taking a one week look at the issue of healing and refreshing ourselves of what God has in store for us. Richard lays out a fresh model for seeing healing develop in our church life based on the 'Healing on the Streets' example. Listen out for the illustration of the Lollipop Lady:)

Page 7: Healing

What makes this different?

• Out there • Gentle• Jargon free• Compassion• Consistent• Peaceful and Authoritative

Page 8: Healing

How Jesus did it

• With compassion• With simplicity• With words and touch• With authority

Jesus healed from a place of rest

Page 9: Healing

How Jesus told others to do it

Like he did it!• With compassion• With simplicity• With words and touch• With authority

Page 10: Healing

The issue of authority

• Jesus was under authority• Jesus acted in authority• Jesus authorised his 12 disciples to heal• Jesus authorised 72 disciples to heal• Jesus authorised his disciples to teach others

to do everything he had taught them

Page 11: Healing

Who are we?

• Sons/Children of God• Co-heirs with Christ• Jesus’ body on earth• God’s ambassadors

Page 12: Healing

The difference between a command and a petition

Page 13: Healing

• We don’t need to be powerful• We don’t need to shout• We don’t need to be aggressive• We don’t need to be complicated

Calm, authoritative statements

Page 14: Healing

Jesus and his disciples never used petitioning prayer for healing

Page 15: Healing

Ok…• It’s all about love• We invite the person to sit down• We get down to their level keeping our eyes open • We ask the person what they have come for• We check that it’s ok to lay hands on them• We invite the Holy Spirit• We pray from a position of rest and confidence (faith)

worshipping Jesus in our hearts• We take authority over the illness or disease ushering it

away in Jesus’ name• We pray for peace and for a knowledge of God’s love• We exercise faith and enquire how the person is

Page 16: Healing

What next?

• Healing is immediate• Partial healing comes• No healing is experienced

Page 17: Healing

What healing is

• A sign that God’s kingdom is coming and ‘at hand’

• Heaven’s rule being expressed on earth• A taste of the future• A pointer to Jesus’ resurrection• Strong evidence that God loves the world• A gift

Page 18: Healing

What about disappointment?

• We exhibit peace and confidence• We never blame the victim• We reassure about God’s love• We offer more prayer• We accept that we only see a little of all that

is happening around us• We understand that we live in a battle
