Luminus inspires local young peopleLuminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham has inspired local young people to change the world where they are at the Health and Social Care Conference for Huntingdonshire secondary schools.

Facing the future - togetherIn the face of life’s challenges the Luminus message is clear: be generous, work together and be inspired to believe for the best.

The example of Luminus, supporting many charitable and community groups, often by our employees going the extra mile, should encourage leaders in business, government, politics and faith communities. As we move through tough times we need to know that the guarantee of our nation’s success is in inspired, envisioned and motivated people.

The thousands of lives Luminus continues to touch and change also strongly demonstrate the need for new national values and principles. This is our 2020 Vision. It is a process of transformation that we believe needs to take place. It is also a journey, which is why we describe it as The Road to Renewal.

The future is much brighter when, together, we face it with renewed hope and inspiration.

Employees at Luminus raised £600 so that all the children at Thongsley Fields School could go on a trip to the seaside.

Some of the children come from deprived backgrounds and had never been to the seaside before. The Thongsley day out was their first opportunity to paddle in the sea and build sandcastles. One Thongsley pupil described the trip as “the happiest day of my life.”

Luminus employees each paid £2 to make the trip possible and one employee said,

“A trip to the seaside is something that many of us took for granted in our childhoods. Every child deserves the opportunity to play on the beach and see our beautiful coastline. I am so pleased to be able to help make this trip possible and give the children a great day out.”

Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham said,

“In 2010, our year of Renewing Hope and Inspiration, Luminus employees have embraced the idea of giving something back to the community. We aim to change the world for the better where we are and our fundraising for Thongsley School has shown how the relatively small act of donating £2 can make a huge difference to local people’s quality of life.”

Luminus has provided a stair lift worth over £2000 and computer equipment to help elderly, disabled and vulnerable people use the Bridge Money Advice Centre’s free debt advice service and community rooms.

The premises, owned by the Bridge Church, are over two floors with large rooms on the first floor available for hire. The rooms are used by local community groups, youth clubs and other organisations but many of their members have struggled to use the stairs, including local disabled children wishing to be part of the youth club.

Luminus paid for and arranged the fitting of the stair lift to improve accessibility and increase the charity’s potential income, and slso donated computer equipment to furnish their office space and make the running of the facility easier.

John Deeks, volunteer at the Bridge Money Advice Centre said,

“The stairlift has made a great difference to the people who use the social area and the Money Advice Centre. Our youth group is expanding rapidly and now includes some disabled children who find the stairlift great fun and some of the less sprightly local ladies are now able to join in with our ladies ‘Tone-Up’ group.

Using the donated IT equipment, The Money Advice Centre will be able to expand its activities. Without the generosity of Luminus, none of this would have happened and some of the more vulnerable local people would still be excluded from our activities. Thank you Luminus.”

Luminus employees raise £600 to send children to the seaside

Employees at Luminus in Huntingdon, the UK number one for leadership, work life balance and strong moral principles, have raised £1500 to be distributed equally between local charities Dreamdrops, MAGPAS and SNAP.

Representatives from the three charities were invited to the Luminus Conference alongside 230 Luminus employees, board members and residents, to collect their cheques.

Luminus employees have been donating through their payroll and fundraising events over the past year to support three local charities which really make a difference in Huntingdonshire:

MAGPAS• is the Emergency Medical Charity for Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Peterborough. They have more than 300 volunteers who literally save lives at the scene of medical emergencies.

DREAMDROPS• aims to raise money to make a real difference to children and families who use hospital or specialist children’s health facilities in Huntingdonshire

SNAP• runs a helpline for all victims of domestic abuse providing someone to talk to and confide in and friendly and constructive advice.

Luminus Group Chief Executive Chan Abraham said,

“In 2010, our year of Renewing Hope and Inspiration, Luminus employees have embraced the idea of giving something back to the community. These three charities transform lives, provide hope and give support to vulnerable people through difficult times, and are allies in our mission to change the world for the better where we are.”
