THE 2018 OPENER AT OREGON• Bowling Green and Oregon will be meeting for the first time in series history on Saturday, Sept. 1. Kick is slated for 8 p.m. ET. • The Falcons are 49-43-7 in season openers all-time.• Bowling Green will be in search of its first win on opening day since 2013. The Falcons beat Tulsa that season by a score of 34-7 under the lights at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. • The Orange and Brown have not won a season opener on the road since 2011. Bowling Green opened the 2011 season with a 32-15 victory at Idaho. • From 1954-1965, BGSU won 12 straight season openers. However, over the past 12 seasons, the Falcons are just 5-7 on opening day.

BOWLING GREEN VS. THE PAC-12• Saturday’s season opener will mark Bowling Green’s third-ever contest against a current PAC-12 school. • The Falcons are still in search of their first victory over a current PAC-12 squad. • In the program’s only games against current members of the conference, Bowling Green faced Washington in 1986, before battling Arizona in 1987.

THE LEFT COAST• Bowling Green is 5-8 all-time when playing in the Pacific Time Zone. • The Falcons are 2-0 in season openers in the time zone and have won three consecutive games on Pacific time.• BGSU's last game in the Pacific Time Zone was a 32-15 win at Idaho to open the 2011 season on the exact same date as Saturday's contest, Sept. 1.

LEADING THE CHARGE AGAINST THE POWER 5• Bowling Green is set to open the 2018 season at Oregon (Sept. 1), before hosting Maryland

(Sept. 8) the following week, and then wrapping up non-conference play at Georgia Tech (Sept. 29).• All 12 Mid-American Conference schools will take on at least one school from a Power 5 conference (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, PAC-12) during the non-conference portion of the 2018 college football season. • In total, the 12 schools within the MAC will combine to play 23 games against Power 5 competition. Bowling Green, Akron, Kent State and Northern Illinois will lead the charge, as all four schools are scheduled to play against three Power 5 schools in 2018. • In fact, over half of the league is set to play multiple games against the Power 5. Ball State, Central Michigan and Western Michigan will battle against two Power 5 institutions apiece this season. • According to Phil Steele’s 2018 College Football Preview, the Falcons have the toughest schedule within the MAC East, and the second-toughest schedule in the entire conference. BGSU’s schedule is ranked the 86th-toughest in the country.

THE PELINI PEDIGREE• The Falcons will have a new-look defense in 2018. Carl Pelini was named BG’s Defensive Coordinator in December of 2017. Most recently, Pelini worked in the same role at Youngstown State from 2015-17. • Pelini arrives to BGSU after three phenomenal seasons as a Penguin. Last season, the YSU defense allowed just 19.1 points per game, the fewest by the program in a decade. • In 2016, Pelini’s defense led a run that saw Youngstown State reach the FCS National Championship Game. The Penguin defense allowed 19.9 points per game that season to rank 12th in the country. • During Pelini’s first season at Youngstown State in 2015, his defense allowed just 116.7 yards passing, the lowest total for the program since 1976. • Along with Pelini, the entire defensive coaching staff is new to Bowling Green in 2018. Jimmy Williams (Defensive Line), LaMarcus Hicks (Secondary), DeJon Gomes (Cornerbacks), Jacob Schoonover (Linebackers), Gus Schwieterman (Defensive GA) and Evan Karchner (Defensive GA) are all entering year No. 1 on the Falcons’ defensive coaching staff.

TURN THEM OVER!• Last season, the Bowling Green defense forced 24 turnovers, which ranked the Falcons

In total, Bowling Green recovered 15 fumbles to rank tied for fourth in all of FBS football. • Senior linebacker Brandon Harris recovered three fumbles last year, which was just one fumble recovery shy of finishing the season in a tie for first nationally in the category.

DOEGE SET FOR SOPHOMORE SEASON• Last season, quarterback Jarret Doege became the first true freshman quarterback to start a game for Bowling Green since Rich Dackin in 1986.• Doege earned the starting job at the end of non-conference play, but an injury against Akron in the MAC opener kept him out until the final four games of the season.• In total, BGSU’s signal caller started five games in 2017, and threw for 250-plus yards four times. Doege completed 63.8 percent (120-for-188) of his passes, and recorded 14 total touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions. His 63.8 percent completion percentage ranks eighth-best in school history for a single season. • After Doege returned from injury in time to start the final four games of the 2017 season, Bowling Green averaged 35.0 points and 412.8 yards of total offense per game. • Over that four-game stretch, Doege completed 64.0 percent (80-for-125) of his passes and

racked up 13 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. • In fact, Doege accounted for at least three touchdowns in all four games down the stretch. He threw for a career-high four touchdowns against Toledo, and that came one week after tossing three touchdowns at Buffalo. In road games at Kent State and Eastern Michigan, he threw two touchdown passes, while rushing for another TD. • In mid-August, Doege was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, presented annually to the top offensive player in Division I football who exhibits the characteristics that define Earl Campbell. Candidates must also have been born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

PROVIDING CLAIR-ITY• Sophomore running back Andrew Clair enters the 2018 season after earning third team All-MAC honors as a true freshman in 2017. • Clair averaged 6.8 yards per carry last season to break a school record that stood since 1951, when Fred Durig averaged 6.7 yards per touch. Willie Geter tied Durig’s mark in 2008.• In total, Clair rushed for 725 yards on 107 carries. He also caught 13 passes for 129 yards, and averaged 20.6 yards per kick return across 16 attempts. • According to Pro Football Focus, Clair averaged 4.5 yards after contact a year ago, the fifth-best average in the country among returning running backs.• The St. Louis native finished the 2017 season with a team-best 1,184 all-purpose yards, ranking fifth in the country among true freshmen with 107.6 all-purpose yards per game.• Clair posted four-consecutive 100-yard rushing games as a rookie, beginning with 16 carries for 121 yards in a win at Miami. He followed that up with 18 carries for a career-high 148 yards and two touchdowns against Ohio.• Clair finished out the run with 11 carries for 108 yards against Northern Illinois, and 111 yards on just eight carries in a win over Kent State.• In late July, Clair was named to the Paul

Hornung Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

MILLER TIME• Wide receiver Scott Miller led the Falcons in receptions and receiving yards as a junior in 2017, posting 63 catches for 722 yards. He earned third team All-MAC honors in the process. • Miller, who had four touchdowns last season with a pair of 100-plus yard receiving games, ranked in the top 50 nationally in receptions per game (5.25).• The native of Barrington, Illinois enters his senior year just 281 yards shy of 2,000 receiving yards. Miller needs 606 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions to crack the program’s top 10 lists for the respective categories. • Miller has earned All-MAC status in each of his last two seasons as a Falcon. In 2016, he was a first team All-MAC selection, as he caught 74 passes for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns. • In July, Miller was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List for the third time in his career. The award is given to the most outstanding FBS receiver in college football.

SPECIAL TEAMS• Bowling Green was one of the better special teams units in the country a year ago. The Falcons, however, graduated their punter and kicker, while special teams coach Matt Brock moved to Washington State. Seth Doege takes over for Brock in 2018.• BGSU was third in the country in kick return average allowed, giving up just 16.7 yards per kick return.• The Falcons were fourth in net punting average at 42.28 yards per punt.• The Falcons also ranked 19th in the nation, allowing 4.27 yards per punt return.• Bowling Green hasn't had a punt blocked since 2012, a streak of 307 successful punts.

#TEAM100• The 2018 season is the 100th season of football at Bowling Green.• The program will celebrate 100 years of BG football in 2019 when the 100th anniversary of the first game in Bowling Green history takes place (A 6-0 loss to Toledo on Oct. 3, 1919).• BG's first win was a 7-0 victory at Kent State on Nov. 6, 1920.• In 99 years, BGSU is 539-382-52 (.581) all-time and 282-178-11 (.610) in Mid-American

of football strength coach Chad Dennis.• Redshirt sophomore defensive back Ty Redding is the younger brother of former Falcon wide receiver Teo Redding. Teo completed his eligibility a year ago and is currently on the Detroit Lions' preseason roster.

WHITE OUT THE TERRAPINS• For Bowling Green’s home opener on Sept. 8 versus Maryland of the Big Ten Conference, the Falcons will be wearing all white uniforms.• BGSU’s all white look will feature the white Military Appreciation helmet.• The game will also serve as Heroes Day. Active and retired members of the military receive a free ticket, while friends and family of the military, EMS, and fire and police workers and their friends and family will receive discounted tickets.• Custom t-shirts for the White Out will be handed out to the first 750 BGSU students. All fans are encouraged to wear white as part of the White Out.• The Falcons last hosted a Big Ten school on Sept. 13, 2014. On that day, former Falcon and current New York Giant, Roger Lewis, reeled in a touchdown pass with nine seconds remaining to give BGSU a dramatic 45-42 win over Indiana.• The game marks a stretch in which the Falcons play three straight home games for the first time since 2013. During that stretch in 2013, the Falcons went 3-0, earning wins over Murray State, Akron and UMass.

#MACTION PRESEASON MEDIA POLL• In conjunction with the league's annual football media day, the Mid-American Conference released the 2018 MAC Football Media Preseason Poll, as determined by vote of the conference's media members, on July 24. • Bowling Green was picked to finish fifth in the East Division, ahead of Kent State. Ohio, Buffalo, Miami and Akron – in that order – round out the predicted top 4 in the East Division.• Northern Illinois was selected to win the West Division, followed by Toledo, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ball State. • Ohio was also predicted to win the MAC Championship Game, which will take place Friday, Nov. 30 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Conference play. The Falcons have a winning record against every team in the MAC except for Miami and Toledo. BGSU and Toledo are tied all-time at 39-39-4.

NOT ONE, BUT TWO NEW HELMETS• On Aug. 14, BGSU Football unveiled two new helmets for the 2018 season. The Falcons released their annual Military Appreciation helmet as well a new lightning orange helmet.• This year’s Military Appreciation helmet is white. On each side of the helmet, the BGSU logo is overlaid with the colors of the United States of America. • For the third-straight year, the Military Appreciation helmet will feature the number “111” on the back of the helmet, which is to honor the 111 students from Bowling Green State University who have died in the line of service. Down the center of the helmet is an orange stripe that includes the names of the 111 students. • Two years ago, Bowling Green State University Athletics partnered with David Ridenour of the BGSU Army ROTC Alumni Society and a 1970 Bowling Green graduate to compile the list of names. Ridenour served in Vietnam from 1971-72.

GRADUATING CHAMPIONS• This season, Bowling Green will have six graduate student-athletes on the 2018 roster. • Defensive back Fred Garth, defensive back Ben Hale, tight end/running back Dorian Hendrix, offensive lineman John Kurtz, defensive lineman Brian Sanders and wide receiver/linebacker Jack Walz have all earned their undergraduate degrees for BGSU.• Four of those Falcons -- Hale, Hendrix, Sanders and Walz -- were members of the 2015 MAC Champions.

BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER• Many teams claim that they are a family, but for Bowling Green, that rings truer than most.• Sophomore quarterback Jarret Doege is the younger brother of special teams coordinator Seth Doege. Seth was an All-Big 12 quarterback at Texas Tech, completing his eligibility in 2012.• True freshmen Brad and Jake Papez are twins, though Brad is a 6-6, 260-pound offensive lineman and Jake is a 6-4, 228-pound tight end.• Redshirt junior Coleman Dennis, who is sitting out this season due to transfer rules, is the son

FALCONS IN THE NFL• There are six former Falcons that are currently on NFL pre-season rosters, working to make the final 53-man roster. The NFL regular season is set to begin Thursday, Sept. 6. • Defensive lineman Chris Jones (San Francisco 49ers), wide receiver Gehrig Dieter (Kansas City Chiefs), offensive lineman Ryan Hunter (Kansas City Chiefs), wide receiver Roger Lewis (New York Giants), defensive lineman Izaah Lunsford (New York Giants) and wide receiver Teo Redding (Detroit Lions) are currently on NFL pre-season rosters. • Jones and Lewis are the only two that have appeared in regular-season NFL games. Mike Jinks begins his third season as the head coach at Bowling Green in 2018. The 19th head coach in program history, Jinks was previously the associate head coach and running backs coach at Texas Tech. In year two at Bowling Green, Jinks relied on youth to build the foundation for future suc-cess. True freshman quarterback Jarret Doege took over the starting role over the final half of the season and completed 64 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns to only three interceptions. True freshman running back Andrew Clair averaged 6.8 yards per carry and finished with more than 700 yards on the ground. Jinks turned to underclassmen throughout

the lineup on both offense and defense.

In his first year at BGSU, Jinks led the Falcons to a 4-8 record that included three straight victories to close the regular season. Bowling Green outscored its three divisional opponents 107-54 during that stretch and rushed for an average of 328 yards during the winning streak. BGSU had eight 100-yard rushing performances over the final three games of the season. Jinks’ players have excelled individually both on the field and in the classroom. In two years, 14 players were named MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, leading the conference in both 2016 and 2017. Five were presented as members of the Hampshire Honor Society in 2016. Twenty-three Falcons have been named Academic All-MAC in two seasons and 13 were named All-MAC, including first teamers Scott Miller and Joseph Davidson (twice). In 2016, Davidson was also first team Academic All-American, fourth team All-American by Phil Steele, and a semifi-nalist for the Ray Guy Award, presented to the top punter in college football. In 2017, he was once again a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award and a second-team Academic All-American.

Jinks, who came to BGSU after spending the 2015 season as Associate Head Coach, coached the Red Raiders' running backs for three seasons. Prior to his time at Texas Tech, he was a National Coach of the Year finalist while winning the 2010 Texas State Championship and compiling a record of 43-4 in his final three seasons at San Antonio powerhouse, Steele High School. Known for their prolific offense, Texas Tech saw great success with Jinks. The Red Raiders owned the second-best of-fense in the country in 2015, totaling 7,134 yards in 12 games (594.5 yards per game). TTU also had the second-best passing offense. Much like the final three games of Bowling Green’s 2016 season, Texas Tech saw incredible success in the running game under Jinks. In just his second season, he tutored DeAndre Washington, who became the first Red Raiders' running back since Ricky Williams in 1998 to surpass 1,000 yards rushing in a single season. Washington finished the season with 1,103 rushing yards and was named second team All-Big 12. Jinks joined the Texas Tech program after a highly successful tenure at Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas – a suburb of San Antonio. Jinks was the first head coach at Steele when the school opened its doors in 2005, and it didn't take long for him to mold the program into a state powerhouse. While at Steele, Jinks compiled a 76-18 record overall, including an impressive 43-4 mark in his final three seasons. He led the Knights to the 2010 Class 5A Division II State Championship and to the state finals again in 2011. Jinks is a graduate of Angelo State University where he earned his degree in kinesiology. He and his wife Meredith have three children – Jaden, Madison and Tristan.
