Principals Pen
Have you ever taken the time to think about the
difference between success and significance?
Success stands only as an end result of an
achievement. Significance lives forever and refers
to the quality of having importance and value to a
well planned out intention, which has had effort, and
persistence attached to it.
This week we marked a historical moment of
significance as we started a new school tradition
when we commissioned our first ever head boy and
head girl. I believe that we share the responsibility in
raising young boys and girls to grow in their
leadership potentials as they are not only the keys to
our future but they also mark our present.
As the principal of Pomaria, I stood proud alongside
the staff as we looked out at our learners. We are
very proud of the way they wear their uniforms with
pride and more importantly the way they have been
carrying out our value of CONSIDERATION for
this term.
I would like to extend my personal congratulations
to all our leaders that were commissioned at Friday’s
assembly.

Kathari
ne
Morrow
Talofa Lava , my name is Kat Morrow.
I am proud to start my teaching career at Pomaria
this year and I feel blessed to have such wonderful
children to learn with in 2009. I am in Room 20,
(years 2 and 3) and we are a part of the
Whanaungatanga Professional Learning Group.
In Room 20, we believe we are a learning family,
engaged in learning and helping others learn.
Entwined with this belief, we are actively embracing
the value of consideration.
I look forward to an exciting year, working with great
children, quality staff and a supportive community.

Attendance
This term has seen a BIG
improvement on the
attendance of our learners. Last
week we had the lowest absence rate in over a
year. Keep it up. The message our learners
need to hear is that "school is cool"
It would be wonderful if we could further reduce
student absence.
Remember if your is genuinely unwell and needs
to stay home, please ring the school office and
leave a message for the attendance officer.

Whanau Unit @ Polyfest
On the 4th March 2009 thousands of learners from around the
world logged onto www.worldmathday.com.
The aim - Unite with students and schools from around the
world to set a new world record!
The Challenge - to correctly answer more than 182,445,169
questions in 48 hours.
Room 5 was lucky enough to be part of this! We logged on and
versed children from all around the globe - from Trinidad to
Ireland to America and even Argentina. Sometimes we even
versed each other! When you log on with your own password
you can create your own character and then race against time
to complete the most basic facts. It starts when it is March 4th
somewhere in the world and it finishes when it is no longer
March 4th anywhere.
The learners in Room 5 were able to practice for the event
during maths time and at home for their homework. It was a
win win situation. The children were happy because they were
having fun and Mrs Rihari was happy because they were getting
faster at their basic facts.
Roll on World Maths Day 2010!
