India has the highest incidence of Head & Neck cancer in the world. Head & Neck cancers constitute about 40 –

50% of all Indian cancers. 70% of them are tobacco related, hence totally preventable.

Head and neck cancers are,

Cancers of Upper Aero Digestive Tract (UADT)

Pertaining to the region between the brain and collar bone

Mainly originating in the lining membrane and the glands like parotid and thyroid.

Common Symptoms of Head & Neck Cancers are:

White patch, sore or ulcer in mouth.

Difficulty or pain during swallowing

Change of voice

One sided throat pain

Unexplained ear ache

Chronic cough

Difficulty in breathing

Lump in the neck

Bleeding/ discharge from ear, nose or mouth

All that is required to diagnose head and neck cancer is good light, suspicious mind, alert eyes and sensitive

fingers. Majority of them can be diagnosed by simple clinical examinations alone. Biopsy is performed to obtain

histological confirmation. Lumps can be diagnosed by simple fine needle aspiration cytology.

Head and neck is the most exposed region of our body usually associated with image, at the same time it is also the

most functional regions involving vision, smell, hearing, taste, swallowing and last but not the least the speech.

Therefore the treatment must balanced aesthesis, function and control of cancer. Modern cancer treatment aims

at maximum functional preservation and optimum cancer control. Surgery and radiation alone are both effective

in early stages, however both surgery and radiation therapy are required to treat advanced cancers. Unfortunately

majority of our cases are advanced. In recent times, chemotherapy is used to potentiate the efficacy of radiation

therapy.

Great progress has been made in the management of these cancers from diagnosis, optimum treatment and

rehabilitation. Tremendous advancement has been made in the sphere of functional and reconstructive surgery

resulting in preservation of vital functions thereby improving the quality of life. Free micro vascular tissue transfer,

jaw preserving surgery and functional neck surgeries are few of them. Reaching deep seated tumor and sparing

the vital structure around it was always a great challenge to radiation therapist. Fortunately with arrival of

TrueBeam STx, now we have the perfect machine suitable for delivering targeted radiation to all head and neck

cancer within shortest period of time. Today This machine is the state-of the technology in the whole world.

We have the perfect balance of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy delivered by committed and experienced

head and neck oncologists.

Head and neck surgery, faciomaxillary surgery, prosthodontist, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, speech

rehabilitation and targerted radiation therapy delivered by true beam STx form our treatment services. Voice

preservation, speech restoration and state-of art micro vascular reconstruction are few of our specialties.
