THURSDAY OCTOBER 09,2014

The participants of the ENWRA Project arrived in Knoya, Turkey on the first day Thursday 9 October 2014.

On arrival the participants were met by the hosts at Konya Airport and trasnported by bus to their accommodation at the Bera hote. In the afternoon the participants were given a guided tour of Konya and given an explanation of the situation of women in rural areas on the issues they face in education training, volunteering and setting up business.

Following the breif of the situation in Turkey the participants took part in a discussion to share the differences and common factors facing women across the partner regions.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 10,2014

Participants spent the morning visiting the ational Education Directory,Visiting the District Governor, Mayor and other people responsible for education and training in the region. The visit provided participants with the opportunity to gain an understanding of how education and training was carried out in the region. The emphasis was on preparing young women to prepare for the workplace with academic as well as practical skills.

After hearing about the organizational structure of education the participants spent the afternoon visits some vocational high schools. Here they had the opportunity to meet with teachers and students to get a better understanding of how the role of educational objectives were translated into practical learning for students.

The participants were shown around the schools and saw the variety of activities and subjects which the students could chose from. The students had prepared a demonstration of some of the practical crafts they created in school including baking, lace making and embroidery.

The day ended with a project meeting to review the tasks to be completed and to review the action plan of outstanding work to be completed.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 11,2014

In the morning participants visited the LOMEK Centre for women. This centre is dedicated to the development and delivery of training programmes for women. Many of the programmes are involved in the maintenance of traditional crafts. The tutors and women provided a display of the various classes they take part in including lace making, needlework and painting.

The Centre provided invaluable support to women who want to begin work fort the first time or to return to work after raising children. It provides them will practical skills in crafts, music and ICT as well as developing their confidence and communication skills.

In the afternoon the participants visited a training centre where the work of stitching and creating garments was mostly carried out by women. Women tend to work in this type of part time/ job sharing work as it allows them to work around childcare and family responsibilities. The work is generally low paid but it allows the women to return to some form of work.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 12,2014

The morning began with the partners discussing what they had gained from the visit and they had the opportunity to clarify any issues with their hosts on the projects and activities they had seen during the visit.

The afternoon before departure provided an opportunity to explore some of the cultural sites of the region and understand their importance in job creation for women in the area.
