1. Overview

HT-VC01 is a HDMI to USB 3.0 video capture device (external USB

capture dongle). It is designed to capture 1080p 60 FPS video and

audio signal from HDMI source, and transfer video and audio between

the video capture device and PC/Laptop through USB cable.

2. Features

Capture video and audio from HDMI sources

Support USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 data uplink

Support true 24-bit color and provides consistent frame rate

performance regardless of video content

Capture resolutions up to 1080p at 60 frames per second

Interfaces compatible with multiple third party applications; with

DirectShow on Windows, Video4Linux on Linux, QuickTime on

Mac OS X

Sources power from USB port, no external power supply required

*Note: HT-VC01 cannot display and record HDCP protected content

(DVDs, Blu-rays, etc.)

5.1 System Requirement

5.2 Installation

Connect the HT-VC01 to an available USB 3.0 port on

your computer system (recording device). For

Windows 10 & Windows 8, the computer will install

driver automatically, for Windows 7, please download

the driver from HornetTek’s website. Connect your audio/video source with an HDMI cable (not

supplied) directly to the HDMI audio/video input port on the

HT-VC01.

***Note: If the HDMI source is a computer/laptop, additional set up

may be required to set the external monitor setting at “Duplicate”.

Please see next page for the instructions to set up the external monitor.

Right click on desktop and select “Display Settings”

Under “Multiple displays”, select drop down menu

Select “Duplicate these displays” from the drop down menu

Click “Apply”. This concludes the external monitor set up.

6. Recording

6.1 VLC Media Player Initial Set Up

***Note: VLC Media Player is the recommended software used for

video capturing.

Download VLC Media Player, for Windows, Linux/OSX:

www.videolan.org/vlc/

***Note: For initial use, the hardware accelerated decoding must be set

at “Automatic” to ensure the best performance. Please following the

instructions below to set the hardware accelerated decoding.

From the main menu, select “Tools”, then click on

“Preferences” from the drop down menu

Click on “Input/Codes”

Select ”Automatic” for Hardware-accelerated decoding

Click “Save”. This concludes the initial VLC set up.

6.2 VLC Media Player Direct Show

7. From the main menu, select “Media” then select “Open

Capture Device” from the drop down menu.

8. For “Video device name”, select “USB Video Device”

9. For “Audio device name”, select “Microphone (USB Audio

Device)”

10. To set up the correct aspect ratio, click on “Advanced

options”

Enter the aspect-ratio for the video source (e.g. 16:9)

Click “OK” to exit from the “Advanced Options” menu.

Click “Play” and the source screen will show in

approximately 10 seconds. This concludes the VLC Direct

Show Instructions

6.3 VLC Media Player Recording

***Note: We recommend using the “Convert/Save” method to record

the video from the device for best performance.

11. From the main menu, select “Media” then select “Convert /

Save” from the drop down menu.

12. Click on the “Capture Device” tab on the top right hand side.

13. Video device name should be “USB Video Device” and

Audio device name Should be “Microphone (USB Audio

Device”

To set the aspect ratio, click on the “Advanced options”.

Enter the aspect-ratio for the video source (e.g. 16:9)

Click “OK” to exit from the “Advanced Options” menu.

Click “Convert / Save”

Check mark “Display the output” box.

Enter the desired file name for destination file. You may

also use the “Browse” button.

Click “Start” and the recording will start in approximately 10

seconds.

To stop recording, simply click on the square “Stop” button

from the bottom control panel. This concludes the VLC

Recording Instructions.

7. Recording for Mac using Quicktime Launch Quicktime Player, Click on “File” from the top menu

and select “New Movie Recording”

.

The recording control panel will appear on the screen, first

click on the “” symbol for the drop down menu

Under “Camera”, select “HDMI to U3 capture

Under “Microphone”, select “HDMI to U3 capture

Then adjust to desired volume for the speaker

Click on the “Record” button to start recording. This

concludes the recording procedure for Mac using Quicktime

Player.
