OPENING STATEMENTHDF 190 helped me learn about myself as a leader. I

learned about my top strengths, which helped me identify myself as an individual. I learned about the various

leadership models, and how to apply them into leadership situations. I learned about the endless possibilities when

working with other highly motivated and intelligent people and projects and in group work. After graduating from this class I now feel more confident in my abilities as a leader.

SECTION 1SELF LEADERSHIP

Student will demonstrate the ability to lead a project from start to finish (follow-through)

Eagle Scout is the highest rank that one can earn in boy scouts. Most Eagle Scouts are between the ages of 16 and 18. It is extremely rare to earn the rank before the age of 16. I am one of the extremely rare cases. I made it to the rank of Eagle Scout when I was 14 years old. To obtain this rank one must complete a service project. My service project was painting house numbers on curbs in front of houses. My project consisted of painting 518 house numbers and took over 500 man hours to complete. It was a

great accomplishment and I was proud to be the leader of the project from start to finish.

SECTION 2Leadership Theory and Models

Student will describe personal application of the above theory “Servant Leadership”

Having to give a speech in front of your peers is never easy, especially when you only have 2 minutes to talk about a topic as broad as servant leadership. I gave my speech on servant leadership and I know that if I had not practiced as much as I did, my grade would have suffered. Going into the assignment I knew it was going to be extremely difficult to explain all 10 characteristics, and connect them to my major and my professional career goals. I used my top strength of positivity to remind myself that I was going to do great on the speech when I was nervous. The speech was a great learning experience to help myself become a better public speaker, as well as test my knowledge of the theory of servant leadership

SECTION 3Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership

Student will describe personal examples of being a change agent

Becoming a change agent in the world is one of the most difficult things for an individual to accomplish. The general public is content with their life and is caught in typical “groupthink”. Breaking people out of

their “groupthink” is difficult because people are not accustom to changing their life. I acted as a change agent during my Eagle Scout Project. I wanted to make a change in my home town by painting house numbers on the curbs in order to help emergency services respond to calls quicker. As a 14 year old

completing this project I was looked up to as an extraordinary Boy Scout and my reputation is still with me til this day. My Eagle Scout Project is one of my greatest accomplishments and I am thankful that I

was able to complete it by being a change agent.

SECTION 4Critical Thinking

Student will describe what it means to analyze, criticize, synthesize and utilize information as a leader

As the current ZBT Interfraternity Council (IFC) representative I must process information at a very quick rate. I must attend the weekly IFC meeting and take notes and pass along the information to my fraternity. Without my information, the fraternity does not receive information about philanthropies, fundraisers, or

other important news. When I first accepted this position, I had no idea how fast the information must be processed and sent out. This position has helped me

become a better leader because I now have this experience to look back upon. Additional Experiences

SECTION 5(Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills )

Student will show knowledge of preparing for and effective answers in interviews (as the interviewee)

Showing up to an interview unprepared is one of the most unprofessional things that a person can do to ruin an interview. That is why I always attend interviews prepared for what ever questions may be

thrown my way. The best example of this was during my orientation leader interview. I knew that I was extremely passionate about the position so I prepared myself for the assigned questions. Unfortunately I was not selected for the position, but I know that I exceeded my expectations for the interview and it

was an honor to be in the position I was in as a first year leader. (
