OPENING STATEMENTI learned my strengths and values in this class, which I

now actively use on a daily basis. I have also learned that I am most inclined to servant leadership. Finally, I have

learned many great leadership theory’s and styles that I think will be able to really help me in my field of study, as

well as my life.

SECTION 1Self Leadership

10. Student will demonstrate the ability to lead a project from start to finish (follow-through)

HDF 190

The project pamphlet, which was only a small sample of the things we came up with, however I am still extremely proud of what we thought up.

In HDF 190, we had a very important group project to do. We had to create an organization that both benefited the campus and related to leadership. We did the project about incorporating ITA more into the URI life. ITA is a separate part of URI, and is essentially differently abled students. It was our idea to different activities with them and create an entire program to integrate them more into the university.(See evidence #6)

SECTION 2Leadership Theory and Models

34. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the “4 V’s” theory of leadership by Grace (Center for Ethical Leadership)

HDF 190 My VIA report, and the written outline of the 4 V’s theory. My values show that I can actually use the 4 V’s in my life, and the outline details the 4 V’s.

The four V’s are values, voice, vision, and virtue. Values pertain to ethical leadership; you must know your own values to be an ethical leader. Voice is basically letting others clearly know your values and vision. Vision is a way to frame ones actions in an ethical way. Virtue is understanding what we are, how we become what we are, and how to accept what we are. (See evidence #2,12)

SECTION 3Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership

65. Student will describe personal examples of being a change agent

HDF 190 An explanation of being a change agent in the HDF 190 book. This helps to make me understand what is and what isn’t a change agent.

As a short project over spring break in HDF 190, we had to figure out if a certain organization was a change agency or not. The organization I was given was named KIVA, and it was a group that gave loans to disadvantaged peoples all over the world. These people were given money to start up businesses, and they had to pay back their loan to you once they got enough money. I decided this was a change agency, because it is helping people start up their own businesses and provide for themselves as well as others. (See evidence #14)

SECTION 4Critical Thinking

77. Student will describe examples of leadership in crisis situations

HDF 190SOC 204

A news article reporting on one of the things Governor Christie did to help New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy. This shows that some leaders can be truly effective, especially in a crisis.

One particular case of leadership in a time of crisis comes to my mind. Since I live in New Jersey, I saw first hand what Hurricane Sandy did to the state. I also remember many of the things Governor Chris Christie did to help his state and its people. He put all party issues aside and deployed powerful and swift help for all the people affected by Sandy. I was extremely surprised and grateful to Chris Christie, and now believe that he is a great governor.(See evidence #19)

HDF 190WRT 104

My final writing portfolio. Which I was extremely proud of; as a writer, I was very happy that I had the chance to compare a semesters worth of work side by side, and that I was able to make changes and to see where I did well, and where I needed improvement.

I write game scripts constantly, and because of that, I took a writing class the first semester of my freshman year. We did quite a few papers, and I got graded and criticized on every one. I always tried to incorporate the changes I thought would really make the paper better, and never took offense to them.(See evidence #20)
