Save the tigers! By: NandikaMost people think these fierce felines are terrible creatures that kill for no reason. But they’re really not! Tigers have a pretty soft mind, actually, and are really caring too! Just like all other wildcats, tigers need food to live, and to get food, they must hunt. The reason tigers tend to kill people is simply because it gets frightened. Let’s go back to the very beginning, when all this “mean tiger” chaos started. Poachers started hunting tigers for traditional medicines and food. When the tigers saw this, they had no choice but to fight back. Wildcats have a unique instinct that makes tigers engage in battle immediately if something starts charging at it. Right now, tigers are endangered and there are laws protecting tigers. While the tiger population goes down, wildlife protection parks continue to save tigers. Tigers may be known as nasty wildcats, but in reality, they’re loving felines!

This amazing dog shows the true meaning of loyalty! Hachi is an Akita, a special dog breed from Japan. Hachi belonged to a professor at the University of Tokyo. Every day when the train horn blew, Hachi would come running to the train station, where his owner would arrive. But one day, while the professor was teaching a group of students, he suddenly suffered a fatal brain hemorrhage. Hachi was unaware of this, so when the train horn blew, there Hachi was, sitting down, waiting for his beloved master. Days, weeks, months, and years past. But Hachi waited. He waited through the freezing cold, the burning hot. Nine whole years, Hachi sat there, and waited. On March 8, 1935, Hachi died. In Japan there is a statue of where Hachi waited. This dog shows us the true meaning of loyalty, and what it really

younger then you really are because your birthday is skipped 3 out of 4 years, but that just an excuse to be younger! I also heard that some people celebrate their birthday on February 28 and March 1, but that just doubles your age so I’m not a very big fan of that one.

Next Wednesday a potential snowfall will be over Richmond, but is everyone celebrating this news? I know I’m not because of the crazy big storm we’ve just recovered from. We would have some skipped school days and all, but if it happens too often it can get a little irritating. I mean, really getting snowed into my house isn’t my idea of a good time.

Recorder Concert Coming up!

I want to remind you guys that practice makes perfect, so if you don’t want to squeak in our upcoming concert, be sure to spend some time improving your recorder abilities. Many parents will be there and nobody likes being embarrassed when it comes to that. Remember to check Mrs. Robson’s blog to practice with the sheet music and the actual music. This big show will be in March so we’ve only got a little less than a month to memorize our songs. I know you guys can do this!
