From the Chairman:
A Club Is Only As Good As Its’ Members
Helensvale Community Golf Club prides itself on the social, community
based environment we have created and is continually striving to serve
and impress all of our members—old and new.
As we continue to grow and evolve it becomes increasingly important to
not only maintain and preserve our wonderful relation ships with our
current members , but also expand throughout the community to build
exciting relationships with new comers.
Every club needs support and it’s more important now than ever to
continue to receive that from our members. We would love to see
continued and increased member support as we grow as when you have
a good thing you want to share it
around!
Last but certainly not least please
welcome our talented new Operations
Manager, Michael Roberts, to the
club. Michael & I have known each
other for a long time and I have no
doubt he will make a considerable,
positive impact to our Golf Club.
We are very excited for what the
remainder of this year has to offer us
all and we look forward to sharing in
the excitement with you.

Australian Summer Of Golf
THE Australian Open, PGA and World Cup dates are locked for a massive
summer of Aussie golf.
And while the Perth International is set to go again next February the location and
date for the Masters, the traditional third leg of the Aussie triple crown, is still to
be confirmed.
World number two Jason Day looms as a major drawcard for both the Open and World Cup, to be played at Kingston Heath, where he is the defending singles champion.
Day won the last instalment of the event, along with Adam Scott, at Royal
Melbourne in 2013, but he hasn’t played in Australia since. After winning the
inaugural Greg Norman medal late last year, Day declared his desire to get back
and play at home.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Australia this coming year ... definitely,” Day said.
Australian Open, Royal Sydney, 17-20 November
World Cup of Golf, Kingston Heath, 24-27 November
Australian PGA Championship, Royal Pines Resort, 1-4 December
2013 PGA winner, Jason Day Jason Day expected to return to Australia

It’s easy to lose perspective when you
are blessed with beauty all year round.
Here on the Gold Coast we can safely
assume we will see green grass, sunny
blue skies and comfortable
temperatures almost year round.
On a recent trip into outback QLD,
Helensvale Community Golf Club
Chairman, John Atkinson, was
reminded at how good we have it.
As you can see in the pictures above,
Taroom Golf Club makes the best of
what they have playing on a brown, dry,
dirt compacted course.
Thankfully, with daily maintenance and
our beautiful environment we are able
to enjoy the stunning course we have
today.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate just
how good we have it!

AWKWARD LIES
Your near the green with not much grass under your ball and what little there is , is patchy.
In this situation, choose your sand or pitching wedge to give you the proper amount of loft you need to stop your ball on the green. If your set up is right, you’re well on your way to solving this difficult lie.
The danger is that you'll hit behind the ball, stabbing your club head in the ground.
To guard against this, place your weight in your left hip and stand closer to the ball with a more upright position. This makes your club shaft more vertical and automatically tips your club head onto its toe reducing the bounce of the club. This way less of your club head is exposed to the ground.
Your upright posture also causes you to raise your hands at address protecting your wrists from over cocking.
Since the heel of your club is off the ground, position the ball toward the toe of your club where you want to make contact.
Striking the ball on the toe is not only safer but the slightly off-center hit produces a much softer shot, Once you're set up correctly, your swing is the same as it is for a normal pitch shot.
Hope this helps you improve your chipping
Happy golfing

It’s great to see all the new mowers & they have certainly made a
difference—The course is looking really good! Member’s should be aware
that the rough will be cut down in stages to achieve the best final product.
If there are any member’s with some time on their hands we are always
looking for volunteers to do small tasks around the course. Please contact
Michael Roberts, the Operations Manager, to see how you can be involved.
I must also congratulate our lady members on their very high standard of
dress on the Golf Course. Well done ladies.
Until next month, Jake.
