Spring has arrived at Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, and with the change of the season comes a of burst energy in our building.
Our ballet students have been preparing diligently for their upcoming examinations with the Society of Russian Ballet. We wish all of our young students the best of luck! Creative Futures program participants are working with Toronto-based choreographer William Yong to create a new piece of dance for our HCA Celebrates dance recital on June 22. Students are learning about the choreographic process, and creating their own pieces that will performed on May 4, as well as considered for inclusion in the HCA Celebrates Year End Recital.
The Theatre Department has been growing steadily, and we are looking forward to bringing a new Teen Creation Collective program to HCA this summer! Participants will be devising their own piece of theatre under the guidance of instructors Stephanie Hope Lawlor and Erica May-Wood, to be performed during the Hamilton Fringe Festival in July.
In addition to the Teen Creation Collective program, we are offering a number of summer camps for children at HCA this summer. From dance intensives and musical theatre programs to art explorations for students who love all of the arts, we have a full summer planned! Get active and creative
this July and August. Camp spots are limited, so we recommend booking early.
In our music department, we’re pleased to announce our upcoming Young Artists Opera Weekend Master Class in May. Serious vocal students will audition for a free spot in our workshops, and will be receiving guidance from esteemed opera artists such as John Fanning (Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Canadian Opera Company, etc) and Ariana Chris (Royal Opera House, Canadian Opera Company, New York City Opera, etc). Auditors will be
welcome to attend as well, and the program will culminate in a public recital with our master class guest artists and workshop finalists.
With many initiatives on the horizon, we welcome you to join us for our upcoming programming, and wish students the best of luck on artistic endeavours as we head into the home stretch of our 2018/19 school year!
Sincerely,
Vitek Wincza Artistic Director

HCA Dance Recital Tickets now on sale!
Why is studying theatre important? 1) Theatre can help you develop empathy. When building a character, you put yourself in another
person’s shoes and gain an understanding of their hopes, fears, dreams, desires, etc. 2) Strengthened interpersonal skills. In theatre, you collaborate with many different people and
personality types.
3) Increased self-confidence. Theatre class gives you continual exposure to taking creative risks and putting your ideas forward within a supportive environment.
4) Theatre gives you an opportunity to learn about many subjects to understand the context of a play that is being studied in class. For example, if a play takes place in a different historical period, it’s an opportunity to learn about a different time in human history and bring it to life!
5) It can reduce everyday stresses. Theatre class is a chance to embrace a sense of fun and play, and to use your imagination and creativity. For both children and adults, theatre provides a chance to really focus on being present in the moment.
When & where is the recital? The recital is on Saturday, June 22 at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place), 1 Summers Lane. The show begins at 6pm. Please leave this Saturday free for student rehearsals. We will be sending more information regarding rehearsal schedule shortly.
Are all dance classes participating? No, our Pre-Creative class does not participate. Adult Ballet students who have joined the separate recital class will participate, while other Adult Ballet students will not be part of the show.
How can I purchase tickets? Please visit the Front Desk to purchase tickets, where you can also view the seating chart. All outstanding fees must be paid before purchasing. Tickets will not be released if the student has any tuition, costume, or exam fees owing. (This includes any outstanding monthly or term cheques, declined credit card payments, and returned cheques.)
