HB 5

• New requirement: Districts must report on PIEMS a self-evaluation of the district and each individual school in the district.

• Ratings: Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable, Unacceptable.

• Areas: Fine Arts, Wellness & Physical Education, Community & Parent Involvement, 21st Century Workforce Development, Second Language Acquisition, Digital Learning Environment, Dropout Prevention Strategies, Ed Programs for GT

Page 3: HB5 School District Self- Evaluation in Community and Student Engagement and Compliance The lesser known piece

Why?

• None of this is directly stated in HB5. • Demonstrates to a larger audience that

the community is an important stakeholder in the schools.

• Demonstrates our values in regard to educating the whole child. There is more to education than state mandated tests.

• A wonderful opportunity to brag about what we are already doing.

What this assessment to looks like

• Simple, objective, and easy to document.• Rubric for the engagement side• Checklist (yes/no) for the compliance side• Divided between elementary, middle, and high

school levels to develop a rating for the district– Will be reported for the district based on individual

school scores• Look at what we are already doing well, as well as

areas we need to strengthen.• Indicators that demonstrate excellence in each

content/program.
