Hawks Newsletter February 2012 As we near the end of our regular season and playoffs are about to begin I would like to thank all of the people involved with our club who make it possible for the players to play. From the Executive who work behind the scene making sure that everything is going well to each team’s management and parents, I say Thank You to all of you. If it was not for you Hockey would not be possible for all of our children. Every year we rely on volunteers to help continue the growth and operation of the Hawks Athletic Club. This is my call to all of you, we need some more volunteers. We need help on the executive for the coming year as we have a number of people that will not be returning for the next season. These people have done the Hawks proud and have done a great job in all of their positions they have filled over the years that they have volunteered. With new people comes new ideas, I encourage you to attend our next board meeting (watch your email for the date and time) so that we may introduce you to some of the positions we will need filled for the upcoming season. 2nd Annual Food Drive a Success!

Initiation Playing in the Stan Gantar Tournament

On Sunday January 29th, five teams from the Hawks Athletic Clubalong with the NWZ Outlaws volunteered their time to raise food forthe Edmonton Food Bank. This is the second year that this event hasbeen held and it was an overwhelming success once again. Not onlydid we have more teams volunteer, but the most important thing isthat we also raised more food. This year we raised approx. 2000lbs.of food for this very needy cause.

The organizer of this event, Melanie Perri, representing the HawksAthletic Club, along with the support of Fire Hall #8 ,with foodand drink donations from Sobeys and Tim Horton's, worked veryhard to make this event happen. These boys and girls stepped up ingreat weather conditions (opposite to last year) to go door to doorand were rewarded with open arms from the residents in the NWZ.

We are very proud that all involved were focused on working hardand having fun for this cause. Thank you to all who donated. Thefamilies of northwest Edmonton stepped up to the plate once again !

I have been out to watch some of the Novice games throughout the season and I've had so much fun being a spectator/fan in thestands watching the players work hard, seeing the smiles on their face, and most importantly having fun.

The Perri Brothers Team up for the first time

My oldest son Brandon plays on the NW278 Bantam team where his dadJohn is an assistant coach and I myself am the manager.

My younger son Matthew plays for the Peewee 1 team and is anaffiliate for the bantam team. On Jan 26th my family got to share aspecial moment

that will always be remembered. The Bantam team was participating inthe Stan Gantar outdoor tournament when Matthew got a call

to affiliate for the first time in their game. He was very excited while dad& I were a little nervous since he may be fast & fearless but

he is also only 4ft 9in & 73lbs. This was the first time our boys gotto play on the same ice for the same team. It was a great hockey game,

even though we lost 4-3 in OT. Brandon scored his first & second goalof the season and told his brother after the game

"You did good tonight & I like when you play with me cause you bring me goodluck".

These are the moments that make me say ahhhhhh!!!!

Melanie Perri

"Proud Hockey Mom".
