Happy Sunday, Ono readers! Ihope last week’s column onbizarre foods took you out of

your comfort zone to explore an array ofunique cuisines, but this week, I promiseto keep things safe and simple, yet utter-ly delicious.

While recently devouring a bowl of poi— that starchy, pasty staple served atevery Hawaiian luau — it got me think-ing: “What is it about taro, the corms andtubers of several plants, that makes it sotasty?” For many Hawaiians, taro repre-sents the staff of life as taro is deeplyrooted in Hawaii’s diverse culture. In fact, for early Hawaiians, taro — as in poi —was an essential part of their daily diet.

Yet, I know there’s much more to taro

than just onoliciouspoi. So, this week, Itook my trusty tastebuds and ventured offinto the vast world oftaro. You’ll be sur-prised at the many onooptions, some ofwhich I bet you neverknew existed. Ready?

Let’s satisfy our appetites at the follow-ing Ono, You Know hot spots and take ona taste for taro!

YogurstoryThe story began in November 2010,

when Yogurstory opened its doors onKeeaumoku Street. What started as abrunch cafe that focused on yogurt quick-ly evolved into a full-service restaurantserving up brunch, dinner, pupus andcocktails.

Recently, I kicked off my workday witha visit to his highly acclaimed, award-win-ning establishment. It was a refreshingexperience no doubt, and head barista JoshAnguay was more than happy to fill mycup of happiness with a Taro Latte.

A specialty drink off of the eatery’sespresso bar menu, Taro Latte ($4.50) canbe served hot or iced, depending on yourpreference.

“A lot of people like the hot versionmore, but iced is also very good — they’reboth pretty popular,” Anguay shares.

Being that it’s summer, I went straight

for the iced Taro Latte, comprised of taropowder, steamed milk and white choco-late. It may sound unusual, but I fell inlove with the very first sip!

“Taro Latte is something unique to us,”Anguay says. “A lot of people don’t real-ize that we have it until they see it on themenu, and then when they try it, a lot ofpeople actually end up coming back justfor the Taro Latte.”

Perfect for me as I hardly ever drink

coffee, Taro Latte is caffeine-free, howev-er you can request to add shots of chai toyour drink for 60 cents per shot.

Also, a visit to Yogurstory isn’t com-plete without feasting on its Red VelvetWaffle ($9.95), which is in fact toppedwith taro cream cheese, in addition tochocolate drizzle and red velvet croutons.

Dining Out recently paid a visit toSam Choy’s Breakfast, Lunch &Crab, and witnessed the many melt-in-your-mouth entrees that satisfyany craving. It’s clear that therestaurant offers much more thanmerely breakfast, lunch and crab, and it only takes one visit to makeyou a devoted fan.

DO: Sam Choy’s Breakfast,Lunch & Crab is best known forserving quality cuisine with alohaand has been doing so for the past15 years. What is the restaurant’sphilosophy?

Gaspar: When the restaurant firstopened its doors, we strictly focusedon a seafood type of menu that alsoincorporated some local flavors.Since then, the menu has undergonesome changes here and there, but the

basis of the menu has always beenseafood and, of course, crab. We arefirm advocates in supporting localproduce and flavors.

DO: Crab lovers can’t seem to getenough of the many crab creationshere. What are some entrees that arecontinuously flying off the menu?

Gaspar: Well, I highly recom-mend patrons who love crab to comeand dine here on Tuesday nightswhen we serve two pounds of snowcrab legs for only $29.95. It’s a greatdeal, and it’s served with a vegetablemedley and your choice of starch. We also serve a delicious WholeDungeness Crab (24 ounces,$38.95). You can request to have itsteamed with fresh drawn butter orhave it prepared with black beansauce. The dish also comes complete

with your choice of starch and veg-etables. We have live Dungenesscrab brought in almost daily fromour local purveyors, so our seafoodis always fresh.

DO: The restaurant is celebratinga shrimp festival now through Aug.5. What can diners expect?

Gaspar: Yes, the shrimp festivalshowcases a variety of dishes featur-ing none other than shrimp duringlunch and dinner times. A couple ofour featured entrees are GarlicShrimp Pizza ($14.95) and CrispyJumbo Shrimp with Sweet ChiliGlaze on a Bed of Fried Rice($17.95 lunch, $24.95 dinner). Wedon’t normally have pizza on ourmenu, so Garlic Shrimp Pizza is abig hit. This pizza pie consists ofshrimp, basil, tomatoes, red onions,

cheese and garlic. We promote festi-vals almost every month, and it’snice to highlight different things offof our menu.

DO: Everything sounds decadent-ly delicious. What are some othersignature dishes that Sam Choy’sBLC is known for?

Gaspar: Our Kalua PorkQuesadilla ($10.95) is a favoriteappetizer featuring a grilled flourtortilla filled with shredded kaluapork, sauteed onions and cheese, topped with fresh salsa, sour creamand barbecue sauce. Then we haveour Kahuku Luau Crab Dip ($12.95)with oven-baked crab and spinachdip highlighted with artichoke andcapers, topped with Parmesancheese and accompanied by grilledgarlic bread. Of course, we mustinclude Onolicious Rack of Ribs tothe list. Priced at $29.95, guests canenjoy two pounds of Sam’s famouschar siu-glazed baby back ribs gar-nished with green onions andcoconut sprinkles. It really epito-mizes local fare. Patrons love it andorder it all the time.

DO: With a vast and ever-expand-ing menu, where does the inspira-tion for these alluring dishes comefrom?

Gaspar: Sam Choy has created alot of the dishes here, but he alsoallows executive chef AurelioGarcia to come up with many disheshimself. Chef Aurelio has been herefor nine years and has really broughta lot to the menu.

DO: Sam Choy’s is a family-friendly restaurant with fun happen-ings all week long. What can dinerslook forward to?

Gaspar: There’s a long list of dif-ferent happenings, including SnowCrab Tuesday Nights (2-poundsnow crab legs for $29.95), PrimeRib Wednesday Nights (16-ouncePrime Rib of Beef for $20.95),Beverage Thursdays (Bottle ofHybrid Pinot Noir for $12 and pitch-ers of Aloha Beer for $10), AlohaFridays (Hawaiian Plate all day andnight), Kapuna Saturdays (kapuna62 and older receive a 20 percentdiscount all day), Keiki SundayNights (6 to 8 p.m., keiki eat freefrom keiki menu with each adult

entree purchased. Magic by AlanArita, balloon sculpting and carica-ture drawing). Keiki (ages 5-12) alsoeat free daily for the month of Julyand August with the purchase of anadult meal. On Sundays we offer ourbrunch buffet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.($22.95 for adults, $12.95 for keiki)as well.

DO: The establishment alsoentices diners 21 and over with afull-open bar. Is this correct?

Gaspar: Yes, our brewery con-cept started the same time therestaurant did, and it was quicklyincorporated into the breakfast, lunch and crab house. We currentlyhave five handcrafted beers —Blonde Ale, Ehu Ale, Aloha Lager,Kiawe Honey Porter and JamesCook I.P.A. — and we’ll brew some

seasonal or specialty beers everynow and then. The beers comple-ment the food nicely here and cus-tomers come to enjoy both.

DO: What are some new andexciting things happening here?

Gaspar: Right next to the brew-ery is Aloha Beer Company, whichis an expansion of Sam Choy’sBLC. Aloha Beer Company openedabout a month ago, and brings abouta lounge type of atmosphere andoffers a vast array of pupus andbeers. We’re hoping that Aloha BeerCompany and Sam Choy’s willcomplement each other.

A lot of people will have an earlydinner here at Sam Choy’s and thengo next door to Aloha BeerCompany and finish the evening offwith some drinks.

Shave ice is not newin Hawaii. In fact itcould be considered

the state dessert. But inrecent years, Taiwanese-style shave ice, which hasbeen around for a longtime in Asia, has beenmaking its way across thePacific Ocean and gainingpopularity all across thecountry, including here inthe Islands.

If you’ve never triedthis mountainous mouth-watering treat, you’redefinitely missing out. It’s similar to regularshave ice, but the ice isusually fluffier, almostsnow-like, and the bestpart are the endless top-pings you can add to it,including my personal favoritesmochi balls and condensedmilk.

At Ice Forest in DowntownHonolulu, which opened earlierthis year, you can find a greatselection of Taiwanese-styleshave ice with a local touch.Owner Andrew Huang, a 1989graduate of Moanalua HighSchool, offers classic RainbowShave Ice ($2.50 bowl, $3.50cone, and up to three flavors —banana, coffee, lihing mui, lilikoi, mai tai, melona, pinacolada, root beer, vanilla, coconut, guava, lemon lime, lychee, mango, papaya, pineap-ple, strawberry and watermelon),Signature Shave Ice, Snow Ice,as well as Cold-Pressed Iced

Coffee, Granita, Fruit Smoothiesand Italian Soda.

The most popular menu itemsare Rainbow Shave Ice withMochi Balls, Ice Cream andCondensed Milk ($5), Azukiwith Mochi Balls and CondensedMilk Shave Ice ($5.75) andOriginal Custard with MochiBalls Shave Ice ($5). You alsocan design your own shave ice bychosing one or more main top-pings (azuki, mochi balls, real-coffee custard, taro or originalcustard), up to three shave iceflavors, and then additional top-pings (such as condensed milk, green tea ice cream, vanilla icecream, chocolate syrup, grassjelly, honeydew jam, lychee jelly, lychee pop, mango jam, mix-fruit jelly, nata de coco, passion

fruit pop, strawberry jam andstrawberry pop).

Huang worked as a computerproduct manager in Shanghaibefore moving back to Hawaii toraise his two young children withwife Tomoko. Ice Forest is locat-ed inside Alakea Market,Huang’s parents’ business, whichhas been in Downtown foralmost 30 years. Street parking isavailable on Merchant Street andat the open lot near the U.S. PostOffice just a block away.

“I wanted to raise my family inHawaii,” says Huang. “And I likeshave ice.”

Who or what inspires you asa chef/manager/owner? Servingguests food that is healthy, butalso tastes good. We serve foodthat I would actually eat myself,on a daily basis, and not gettired of it. We want guests toenjoy the food, enjoy the experi-ence and their time here creatingshabu shabu.

What is your favorite dish onthe menu? Why? The shabushabu is my favorite “dish,” butit’s hard to call it a single dishdue to the endless variations youcan do with it. I never get tired ofit. I usually start with the konbubase, add pork, choi sum, mush-rooms, stuffed aburage “pockets,”arabiki sausages, frozen “sponge”

tofu, Chinese cabbage and a bigbowl of rice on the side. For mydipping sauce, I usually choosehouse sauce mixed with chilipeppers and daikon oroshi. It’senough to fill me up, and I don’thave to worry because it’s healthy.Plus, it doesn’t take a lot of timeto prepare it, so I can get back tomy work or whatever else I’mdoing that day.

What is your favorite ingredientto work with? Why? Favorite

ingredient? Probably pork —pork loin, pork butt, pork collar(very nice and tender) — we canslice it thin for shabu shabu. Wealso can grind pork to mix intomeatballs or stuff into aburagepockets, even wrap it aroundvegetables.

Is there a dish that you createthat’s not on your menu, butavailable upon request? Differenttypes of vegetable tempura aresometimes available.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder— and that’s true when it comes tofood as well. It’s said that two peo-

ple can look at the same thing and eachwill see something different. It’s all amatter of perception.

Hifumi Japanese Restaurant boasts thatit has the biggest shrimp around for itstempura — and that’s quite true, lucky forshrimp lovers — but it’sthe rest of the taste-tempt-ing tempura choices thatwill catch the eye of thosewho don’t eat meat or fish.

Hifumi’s VegetableTempura ($11.95 for acomplete meal with misosoup, tsukemono and rice;$6 as an appetizer) offersa healthy variety of veg-etables including pump-kin, string beans, egg-plant, carrots and sweetpotatoes.

“Vegetarians like it,” says longtimeserver Elsie.

What’s not to like? Hifumi, a mainstayat the Chinese Cultural Plaza fordecades, has its tempura down pat. It’slight and crisp with just the right amountof bite to the vegetables, and the accom-panying side of tsukemono (Japanesepickles) adds a nice kick, while the rice

and miso soup round outthe complete meal. It’s afeast for the eyes and theappetite.

You’ll see.

Yakiniku Million is a family-ownedestablishment, and all the dishes on themenu are family recipes. While theyakiniku items are popular, take thetime to glance further through the menufor some amazing already-preparedKorean dishes.

Sul Lung Tang ($10.95) is a beef ten-don soup that will warm you up in aheartbeat. Sul Lung Tang is often servedas a breakfast food and is the perfectfood to eat when you’re sick. But youdon’t have to be sick (and it doesn’thave to be morning) for you to enjoythis soup. The milky white broth is

made by boiling beef bones for hours, which adds tons of flavor to each slurp. This is a season-as-you-go kind of soup, which means that you season it whenyou’re ready to eat it, not while cookingit. And according to manager AngelaPark, this dish is becoming increasinglypopular with Yakiniku Million’s cus-tomer base.

For those of you who like a fishiertaste, Million serves up a great DriedPollock Soup ($7.95 from 11 a.m. to 2p.m.; $10.95 from 2 p.m. to midnight),also known as Bugeo Gook. Dried pol-lack soup is a soothing dish that warms

you down to your core, but at the sametime is very refreshing and invigorating. It’s served with pollock fish, greenonions, eggs and daikon radish all in atasty special soup base that’s made byboiling the seasoned fish.

Million’s Hamachi Kama ($17.95) isa favorite among locals, according toPark. Hamachi kama is the collar partof the yellowtail fish right behind thehead, which means it has a smooth, buttery taste that’s downright delicious. At Million, the hamachi kama is grilledto perfection and each bite will haveyou closing your eyes with a smile onyour face.

Chili pepper was introduced to Koreain the 17th century and since then hasbecome one of the most widely usedspices in Korean cuisine. Korean foodtends to be associated with spiciness,

and O Jing Eo Bok Um ($14.95), madewith stir-fried squid and vegetablesmixed with a spicy sauce, exemplifiesthat taste and flavor. This dish alsocomes with topokki (rice cake), whichmakes for a great added texture.According to Park, the Korean cus-tomers who go to Yakiniku Million real-ly like this dish.

Korean cuisine is affected by its geog-raphy, hence the abundance of seafood, and climate, which calls for many foodsto be fermented (like kimchi). And nomatter what you order, you’re sure toget an assortment of banchan (side dish-es) to start your meal, as well.

Ross and Forever 21opened, in part, to bringmore locals into Waikiki.

Here’s another reason, AtlantisSteak and Seafood for pupus.Well, anything, but this is anappetizer column, so I’ll leave therest of the menu to my surprising-ly never overfed colleagues.

If you believe spice is nice, tryGarlic Clams ($13.95). The freshManila clams are sautéed andserved in a garlic butter broth thatis clean and spicy. Naturallysweet, the clams are complement-ed with the spicy broth while thetoasted bread provides the crunchto the multi-textured mini meal.

Shrimp, clams, bacon — inter-ested? OK, that may be a sillyquestion, but don’t let the obviousscare you away. Deep Fried OceanWrap ($12.95) is made withjumbo scallops and shrimp thatare wrapped in bacon (INBACON!), coated in corn mealand panko, and deep-fried. Yep,it’s that good. Alone, the tendershrimp, sweet scallops and smokybacon offers a big enough flavorprofile to satisfy the most discrim-inating “pupuophile,” but add thesweet mango and papaya salsa, and the two aioli (one sweet, theother made with wasabi), andyou’ve got a dish that is crazygood.

Yes, Golden Fried Calamari($9.95) is tender and the sweetchili aioli makes a terrific dippingsauce, but what stands out withthis appetizer favorite is the sizeof the cuts. Forget the dainty, micro squid that fits three to achopstick, these big loops ofsweet sea life are satisfying

mouthfuls of flavor that somehowseem to get bigger as you digdeeper into its tea leaf wrap.

Not yet finished with the bigtime? Try the aptly-namedSeafood Boat ($39.95). The largeocean-ready vessel is packed withcrab claws, shrimp cocktail, mus-sels, clams and oysters. It’s an off-the-menu treat, but there are nosecret codes or friends of Steverequirements to qualify. That’sdirector of operations SteveMatsuno, not me. How vain doyou think I am?

The next time it’s got to beChinese food and nothingelse, you’ll be more than

satisfied with the selection atLung Fung Chinese Restaurant.Tucked away in Niu ValleyCenter, the ornately decoratedeatery — complete with dragonand phoenix murals as well aswood carvings — has been a partof the East Oahu dining scene formore than 30 years. ManagerEddie Ma, who has overseenrestaurant operations for the pastdecade, ensures that Lung Fung’smenu of Chinese classics remainsfresh, flavorful and healthy.

For any first-timer, Ma recom-mends a best-seller: Kung PaoChicken with Rice Noodles($8.95). “This Kung Pao is a littlesweet and spicy,” he says. “It’s avery popular sauce.” Chicken, peanuts, chili, green onion, garlicand wonderfully thick rice noo-dles absorb the bold sauce beauti-fully.

The menu also contains manyfresh and healthy options such asFish Filet with Choy Sum

($13.95). To make this delightfuldish, flounder is sauteed withchoy sum in a white sauce.

A large red-and-golden diningarea gives the establishment abanquet-hall feel, and it comfort-ably seats around 150 people.Patrons may reserve the eatery’sprivate dining room as well. LungFung’s lavish setting is the per-fect place to settle into for theluscious Chinese feast you’vebeen craving.

No newbie to early mornings isSteve Uyehara, co-anchor onHawaii News Now’s Sunrisemorning show. His day starts asearly as 2 a.m. when the alarmgoes off, then he’s live on-airfrom 4:30 to 9 a.m. Recently,Uyehara took time from his busyschedule to catch a quick lunchwith us at Nuuanu Okazuya forthis week’s Dining with the Stars.

“This is my first time toNuuanu Okazuya. It’s very small

and cozy,” Uyehara says. “Ididn’t know what to orderbecause there are so many differ-ent things to choose from, butluckily a lot of loyal customershelped me decide on the bestselections.”

Verdict? “The food is fantas-tic! I’ll definitely be here againfor lunch,” he says with a smile.

Owner Mark Kitagawa wastedno time filling a plate with therestaurant’s signature favoritesincluding Furikake ChickenKatsu, Teri Beef Hamburger,Fried Saimin, Nishime andStuffed Bittermelon.

“It’s so hard to pick afavorite, but I think theFurikake Chicken Katsu standsout. It has a very bold taste andit’s sweet, but not too sweetwhere it’s overwhelming. Thekatsu is very crunchy, just how I

like it. The fried saimin also isvery comforting and goes wellwith everything.

“Nuuanu Okazuya brings meback to my childhood —okazuya was big for me grow-ing up,” says Uyehara, a localboy who grew up in Aiea.“Whenever we’d have fieldtrips, my mom would let us pickup food at the okazuya. I used tolove picking out certainmusubis, fried chicken andshrimp tempura.”

A devout lover of food,Uyehara admits he doesn’t havethe most sensitive palate, butsays cooking for his family hasdefinitely helped turn him into atried-and-true “foodie.”

Uyehara has been withKGMB9 since 2000, andthroughout his career he has hadthe opportunity to meet many

renowned individuals and be apart of legendary events, includ-ing local golfer Tadd Fujikawa’srun at the Sony Open andMichelle Wie turning pro. However, the most pinnaclemoment of Uyehara and wifeLiz Chun’s life so far wouldhave to be the birth of their 7-month-old son, Jace.

“Jace and I share the samebedtime. I try to get to bed by8:30 p.m.,” Uyehara says with alaugh. “Waking up in the morn-ing is the toughest thing. Located on the top floor of AlaMoana Center (just up theramp from Mai Tai Bar), Jade

Dynasty Seafood restaurant servesup authentic Hong Kong-style cui-sine in a welcoming, elegant atmos-phere. The restaurant has an exten-sive menu, which includes a wideselection of dim sum and entrees thatreflects its ongoing efforts to rein-vent its cuisine in creative ways.

“We have a lot of traditionalChinese food, and then we create ontop of that,” explains general manag-er Gary Chan. “You have to have agood base, and then you can createmore contemporary things.”

Customer favorites include DynastyTea-Smoked Jumbo Shrimps ($23.95),Pan Seared Seafood Stuffed Tofu ($3.50)and Baked Snow Mountain Char SiuBuns ($3.50).

In addition to those tasty classic dish-es, Jade Dynasty is constantly creatingnew dishes. Recently, one of the chefswent on a trip to Hong Kong — and has

returned to the Islands with a slew ofnew items.

“A lot of our customers like the restau-rant because we keep on creating newdishes,” Chan says.

One of the new items is Crispy RoastPork in Chinese Crepe ($17.95 for eightpieces), which consists of pork wrappedin a light, delicate crepe. Another newdish is Lobster with Mochi Rice (Market

Price). Customers also can choose tohave this dish made with crab instead.“We make the mochi rice first, and thenwe cook the crab or the lobster inside, soall of the good juices are there to flavorthe rice,” Chan says. Both of these dish-es require about a day of prep time, soeach needs to be ordered at least one dayin advance.

Other new dishes include CrispyChicken with Roasted Garlic ($17.95)and Golden Signature Beef ($17.95),which is bathed in an aromatic whitewine sauce. “The outside is crispy, andthe inside is cooked very tenderly,” Chanexplains.

In addition to these new creations,Chan says that Jade Dynasty also cancreate dishes based on specific requests.“If people call in and they say they wanta new fish dish, for example, we can

“When the restaurant started, we wantedto see how we could bring the Hong Kong-style dim sum to the Islands,” says gener-

al manager Gary Chan. Jade Dynasty has achieved those authenticflavors through working with partner restaurants in Hong Kong.Periodically, the restaurant will send its chefs to Hong Kong — andthe exchange program has yielded creative and authentic treats.

Jade Dynasty sends its chefs to Hong Kong about once a year.“They enjoy it because they get to meet chefs from other parts of theworld,” Chan says. “And then the chefs from Hong Kong learn fromour chefs, too.

“It gives our chefs a lot of fresh ideas about different dishes andpresentation,” he says. “And ever since our chef came back from hismost recent trip, he has just kept on creating. He has all of his cre-ative juices flowing right now.”

Jade Dynasty also adds a local flair to its food, as many of theingredients are procured locally. “We try to use as much local foodas we can,” Chan says, adding that much of its seafood is local, including Kahuku prawns and Big Island abalone. “A lot of peopleappreciate when we mention these local foods, especially those fromout of town. It’s about providing our customers with an experience —they want to taste food that you can’t get anywhere else.”

Nice Day Chinese SeafoodRestaurant

It’s been nothing but a nice day eversince Nice Day Chinese SeafoodRestaurant opened shop in Liliha SquareShopping Center in 2008. And as early as8 a.m., you’ll find folks lining up at thetakeout window to get their hands onmorsels of Chinese dumplings, includingbaked manapua stuffed with char siu, porkhash and winter melon dim sum, to namea few. Ono for taro? Well, you’re in luck,Nice Day Chinese Seafood Restaurant hasa handful of dishes which finely showcasea Chinese take on taro.

“We have Taro Gok and Pan-Fried Taro— both popular dim sum dishes,” saysmanager Shirley Cheng. Dim sum is avail-able from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, and TaroGok (my personal favorite) is one thatsells out quickly. Priced at $2.50, dinersreceive three pieces of this delicious dimsum, which consists of pork, mushroomsand taro, deep-fried with a flaky exterior.According to Cheng, Pan-Fried Taro dimsum ($2.50 for three pieces) is a close sec-ond on the list of dim sum diners’ toppicks as it features dense taro combinedwith pieces of minced lup cheong(Chinese sausage) and dried shrimp.

Taro Kao Yuk ($9.95) is a heartieroption on the menu. This entree wins overpatrons with its savory pieces of porkbelly and taro doused in a brown gravy.

“You might be surprised, but we use alot of taro in our dishes here,” Chengexplains with a smile.

So whether you choose to dine-in ortakeout, Nice Day Chinese SeafoodRestaurant is at your service when itcomes to fulfilling all of your dim sum

and taro cravings.

Anytime CaféAll this talk about taro finally led me to

Anytime Cafe in Market City ShoppingCenter, where I know I’ll be treated tosome of the best cuisine anytime of theday and night. While I have tried an abun-dance of items on the menu, setting mytaste buds on the restaurant’s Taro Cakesand Taro Snow Ice was a first, but defi-nitely not a last. Taro Cakes ($3.75 forthree pieces) are commonly ordered as anappetizer or with soup. Owner CindyWong says it’s made with rice flour,Chinese sausage, black mushrooms anddiced taro. Pan-fried to perfection, thisone takes the cake! Then, of course, whocould forget about dessert? Everyoneknows sweets are my weakness, so whenWong presented me with Taro Snow Ice

($6.50), I was in complete bliss.“The concept for snow ice originated in

Taiwan and then became really popular inHong Kong,” she explains. Taro SnowIce features a mound of the softest, smoothest snow ice ever — you won’tfind chunks of ice here. Instead, the tex-ture is similar to ice cream and flavoredwith condensed milk. It’s then garnishedwith coconut, passion fruit and greenapple jelly toppings. Mango diced jellyand yogurt flavored popping boba ballsalso accompany this sinful masterpiece.Of course, diced sweet taro tops off thisdecadent dessert making it the treat of alltreats. Believe me, I had my mind set ononly sampling a bite or two, but finishedit off in no time and found myself mourn-ing the fact that it was gone. Yes, TaroSnow Ice is that good!
