Stopping for Directions

The trouble was, this was a lot of stress on Katie. Without work, friends, or other family to turn to, she felt isolated and trapped. When it was time for Katie to go back to work, her troubles only deepened. Dealing with the loss of her mom, Katie’s depression and stress levels only increased. To top it off, it had been so long since she’d worked, she had trouble finding a job. When her condo was foreclosed on, Katie had no place to go. She wrote a letter to the Haven asking for help.

The Path Ahead

At the Haven, Katie had time to regroup. She began counseling to help her deal with the loss of her mom, her career, her home. She even created a new resume and

worked with her case manager on interviewing strategies. All of this gave her the tools—and the confidence—she needed. Katie got a job, opened a savings account, and started over. Now she has a place of her own, steady work, and a network of support she can turn to when times get tough. Thank you for giving Katie, and all of our residents, this amazing opportunity.

Lake County Haven provides food, safety, shelter, couseling and life-skills training to women and children who are trying to find a path out of homelessness. Each and every day, our residents work to rebuild their lives. For many, it is a constant uphill struggle. Here is...One Woman’s Journey.

KATIEA Bump in the Road

Katie had a secure, stable job in finance. She was happy there for nearly 20 years when her company merged with another. Her position was eliminated and she was let go. Katie wasn’t worried though—her severance package was a good one and now she could devote a lot of her time to her ailing mother. In fact, Katie became her mother’s sole caregiver for quite some time.

Thank you to all of our friends and neighbors who have helped the homeless women and children in our community find a place to call “home” this past year. Because of your generosity, each of them received not only the basic necessities of life, but also:

• Case Management and Life-Skills Training to help them learn the skills they need to live independently.

• Counseling and support to help them heal from the trauma they experience while living on the streets.
