BOOK FAIR
The Library is excited to host its annual Book Fair. This year we again offer
a variety of books to suit all interests, from picture books and fiction, to
technology and crafty packs. The fair will open every day at the following
times:
MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY
MORNING 8:30 to 9am 8:30 to 9am 8:30 to 9am 8:30 to 9am 8:30 to 9am
LUNCH 1 to 1:30pm 1 to 1:30pm 1 to 1:30pm 1 to 1:30pm CLOSED
AFTERNOON 3 to 4pm 3 to 4pm 3 to 4pm 3 to 4pm
We earn a commission for hosting the fair, and in the past we have been able to purchase cushions,
ottomans, lounges, Lego and games, which all children have been able to use. Thank you for supporting our
Book Fair. Credit cards, cheques, cash and online payments are accepted.
BRAVEHEARTS REFUNDS
The $5.00 Bravehearts refunds were sent home on Wednesday with students in Kindergarten to
Year 2 and Thursday for students in Year 3 (due to sport). If your child was due a refund and you
have not received it, please check your child’s bag before calling the office.
Again, thank you to the parents who paid it forward and donated their refund/s to the P&C.
DAFFODIL DAY
Next Friday representatives of Westport High Campus’ WASCALS will be at Hastings to give daffodils
to students in Kindergarten and Year 6. For a gold coin donation students can contribute to this
wonderful cause that is trying to find a cure for cancer. The WASCALS will be at school at 12:30pm.
TERM 3 OLYMPICS DISCOS
Tickets will go on sale at the canteen on Wednesday for our Term 3 discos to be held next Friday
night, 26th August. Tickets are $4.00 each or $5 at the door. Dress in the colours of your favourite
country or in the uniform of your favourite sport (except swimming & diving – it’s too cold!). K-2
disco is from 5 to 6:30pm and Years 3 to 6 from 7 to 8:30pm. Discos are for students enrolled at
Hastings only and we do ask parents to stay and help with supervision but would prefer no toddlers /
pre-schoolers.
The canteen will be open selling hot snacks ($3.50) and cold drinks ($1 to $1.50). If your child has
spending money please secure it in a purse/bag or wallet. Nothing spoils a child’s night more than
when money falls out of pockets and is lost!
DOMINOS “DOUGH RAISER”
Many thanks to everyone in Port Macquarie who enjoyed a Dominos pizza last Wednesday week.
Dominos exceeded their average Wednesday night pizza count by around 200 and from this our
P&C will receive $689.00. Many, many thanks also to Kimberley & Leroy Day from Dominos who
offered our school this fundraising opportunity.

PSSA BOYS BASKETBALL
What an amazing boys basketball team Hastings Public School has this year! On Wednesday the
boys played Tamworth Public School in a nail biter. The first quarter saw them down 14-7. With
improved defence in the second quarter they were only down 20-13 at half time. Hastings outscored
Tamworth by one in the third quarter and slowly started clawing their way back to be down 27-20. It
was a stressful last quarter for the coach and spectators as the boys did an amazing job in defence
to steal the ball and outscore the opposition 12 points to 5. The fulltime score saw the teams drawn
at 32 apiece.
After a quick look at the rules to determine the
length of the extra time required, the boys came
back on the court for another 3 minutes. The clock
stopped every whistle which made the 3 minutes
seem like an eternity. Both teams were in foul
trouble with Tamworth having 3 players fouled out
and Hastings had one player fouled out. The final
score saw Tamworth 35 defeat Hastings 34.
These boys can hold their heads high as they played
with determination, outstanding teamwork and
great sportsmanship. Well done, Lenny Jensen,
Mason Heddles, Jordan Westcott, Mitchell Chandler,
Jacob Tonning, Lachlan Spinks, Kai Marino (absent
from photo), Riley Lee, Jordan Trevenar and Kael
Harris. Your coach, Mrs Brest couldn’t be prouder.
