Harvey Lee Degree Mr. Harvey Lee Degree, son of the late Horace and Margarette Williamson Degree was

born May 17, 1936 in Shelby, North Carolina. At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus

Christ and joined Hopewell Baptist Church. He was united in holy matrimony to Margie Louise

Wallace on August 15, 1956. He joined Light Oak Baptist Church and served on the Trustee

Board and the Usher Board. The union between Harvey and Margie was blessed with eleven

children. Mrs. Margie Wallace Degree preceded him in death on August 17, 1986. Harvey was loved by many because he made everyone feel

like a part of his family. He was a dedicated father to his children, nieces, nephews and whomever needed him. He gave his children a strong work ethic. He always provided

shelter, food and clothing for his family and never depended on the government to provide assistance. Harvey inspired his

children to travel and that encouragement has not diminished. Driving a tractor trailer was his dream job. On June 9, 2000, Harvey was rewarded a 19 years Accident Free

Service plaque from Cardinal Logistics Management. In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Margie

Wallace Degree, Harvey was preceded in death by his former wife, Rose Roberts Degree; a daughter, Gaylain Monya

Degree Crosby; two grandsons, Antonio Anthony Degree and Kepton Arnoldrico Degree, Jr.; a brother, William Alexander Degree and a sister, Mary Francis Degree

Smith. Harvey’s legacy will forever be cherished in the lives of

his children; Harvey Butaleon Degree, Sr. of Shelby, Wayne Degree of Lincolnton, Xavier Degree (Iris),

Deborah Terry ( Tyrone) , Philbert Degree (Jacqueline), and Felecia Degree, all of Kings Mountain, Christopher

Degree (Angie) of Bessemer City, Kepton Degree (Monica) of Charlotte, Michelle Degree Johnson of

Dallas and Shawn Degree of Charlotte; 5 brothers, Fred Degree ( Della) of Kingstown Jerry Degree (Faye) and Joe Degree, all of Shelby, Aqueel El-Amin and Alfred Degree( Cheryl) all of

California, a sister, Pauline Degree Bostic of New Jersey; 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, a stepdaughter, Sandra

Falls, caregiver to a step-grandson; 4 brother-in-laws, Jeff Wallace( Loretta), Johnny Wallace( Mary), all of Shelby, Ricky Wallace

(Carolyn) of Missouri and Terry (Patricia) Wallace( deceased) of South Carolina; 3 sisters-in-

laws, Maxine Winslow (Charles) of New York,

Bessie George and Mary Helen Wallace, both of

Shelby and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins,

friends and his truck driving family.
