Year 5 Camp to Beechworth The Year 5s left for their camp at Beechworth early yesterday morning. This camp has a focus on history- the gold rush and the bushranger era of Victorian history. There will be photos posted on the Skoolbag app during the week and no doubt lots of stories to share when the students return to school. Student Numbers 2019 In a fortnight all school principals are required to provide enrolment numbers for each year level for 2019. It is on these numbers that our 2019 indicative budget is based. Therefore I really need to know of families whose child or children will / may NOT be at Hartwell next year. If your child will not be attending Hartwell in 2019 please let me know in writing preferably or by a phone call as soon as possible. Clearly if your situation changes your child’s place at Hartwell will not be in jeopardy and any information you provide will be kept confidential. Thanks for your help with this matter. It is really important that I am able to accurately estimate numbers for each year level.

Reminders

We have an excellent Before School Care

program which should be used by parents

who need to drop their children at school prior

to 8.45am. Teachers, although at school, are

not on yard duty until 8.45am so it is not

appropriate for you to drop your children off

before this time. Please respect this request

as there are currently too many students at

school early.

Please obey the traffic and parking

regulations at drop off and pick up times. On

two occasions last week I received phone

calls from different neighbours complaining

that parents had parked across or even in

their driveway- preventing them from leaving

their property. I find this behaviour

disappointing. It is selfish and thoughtless

and I would urge parents to refrain from such

behaviour. I am aware that one of the

neighbours was so frustrated that they

photographed the offenders’ number plate

and reported it to the police. Please be patient

and courteous when you are picking up and

dropping off your children.

Monday August 27 is a pupil-free day at

Hartwell. Please contact Nick at After Care if

you want to use the child care program on

that day. There must be a minimum of twenty

students for it to operate.

Parents are reminded that the Hartwell

Canteen now operates every day. There are

also take home meals for parents who want

to buy a family dinner meal.

Kris Moore Principal PE UPDATE OUTSTANDING OSCAR! A huge congratulations to Oscar S. (S5K) who competed in the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships at Bundoora Park last Thursday. Oscar had a fantastic race finishing 54th amongst a field of close to 100 runners. The race was full of drama with a big fall at the start and even confusion about the course itself, but Oscar dug in, had a real crack and can be very proud of his efforts.

Page 3: HARTWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL Newsletter 4055 · Monday 27 Curriculum Day Friday 31 Prep Father’s Day Breakfast 8-9am September Wednesday 5 FAMPA Year 5-6 Tuesday 11 Open Night Wednesday

What is even more impressive is that Oscar reaches this level of competition off raw talent alone. Oscar does not train for cross country specifically, he just plays plenty of other sports to develop his fitness. I can’t wait to see his results when he takes his running to the next level in the coming years! Well done on an outstanding Cross Country campaign Oscar. We are very proud of you and your efforts.

HOOP TIME – Junior Future Stars Congratulations to the forty-five Year 3 and 4 students who played in the Hoop Time Future Stars round robin day last Tuesday. It was thrilling to see so many players relatively new to basketball, having a real go and enjoying what was a brilliant learning experience. This group of players really stepped up and embraced the experience, developing confidence, leadership skills and modelling great sportsmanship and self-efficacy in the process. Congratulations to the Hurricanes, who made it through to the semi finals. In a terrific second half come back, the team put in a superb effort to lose by only two points. It was a nail biter right to the buzzer! Congratulations also to the wonderful Year 6 House Captains who took on coaching roles for the day. These young people demonstrated outstanding maturity and wonderful leadership. They were confident, articulate, they provided relevant feedback and developed a lovely rapport with their teams. They were terrific role models and should be very proud of their efforts. Well done to Olivia S, Maddy P, Alexander G, Xavier T, Riley M, Campbell D, Blake L and Nick G. Thank you to Nick Holdsworth for mentoring these coaches throughout the day. Thank you to our scorers Madi H and Izzy F-B. Thank you also to Andrew Major for coaching the mighty Hornets. It was another successful Junior Hoop Time Campaign!

SENIOR HOOP TIME Notices went home last week for our Senior Hoop Time teams. The All Stars will play on Thursday 9th August and the Future Stars will play on Wednesday 15th August. Payments and permissions can be made on the Qkr system now. Thank you.

GO HARTWELL GIRLS! Best of luck to our Year 6 Girls’ Soccer team who are contesting the Boroodara Division Finals today. Next Tuesday we have entered a Girls Australian Rules Football team in the EMR Finals for the first time. It is wonderfully exciting to see our girls so engaged and invested in their sport. Watch this space for results next week. GO HARTWELL!

SAVE THE ATHLETICS DATE Parents of Year 3-6 parents, don’t forget to save the date for our Athletics Carnival. Thursday 23rd August is when we will need all hands on deck to assist with the field events. Next week I will give more details and put out my request for your help. It is always a great event to be involved in.

Don’t forget to ensure your children has a jumper or jacket for PE. We will be doing lots of athletics training outside and the children will need to be warm.
