Welcoming Our New Youth and Children's Minister

Kahla Jackson will arrive in Harrison the even-ing of Thursday, August 31! We are so excited for her to finally be arriving here and getting settled in. She al-ready has an apartment located. She still can use some furniture items, especially a dresser and a night stand. Many items have already been donated to help her get off to a good start in Harrison and we appreciate all who have been able to help. If you have a donation that you think would be of help please let Bob Dodson know at 715-99817. Thanks again for helping make Kahla feel welcome!

The Operation Christmas Child August Clothing Article in the church paper brought back memories of when I went to Haiti and gave my shoes and socks away while I was there. Another incident happened recently. As I was preparing to go to Penney’s to buy socks, I received a $10 Penney’s coupon in the mail. I had the thought that a good way to use the coupon and add extra money to it would be to buy socks for an Operation Christmas Child box. As I was checking out, another lady also checking out was curious about all my socks and the prices. I started telling her about Operation Christian Child. She handed me $6.00 to help pay for socks. God definitely got involved that day.

From The Heart

One of the ways we love our neighbor is to make them feel welcome and included in community. One way we do this is to invite them to church. An even more powerful way to make people feel included is to invite them to join your Sunday School class. I am hoping that all of our Sunday School classes will take a step forward in making invitations. I will be encouraging this as part of the Sunday morning messages. But I hope all of the Sunday School classes will be getting more creative about growth. This is an important moment in the life of our congregation. We should take advantage of this op-portunity as much as we can.

And Sunday School classes aren't the only ways people can get involved in groups. There's Disciple's Men, Disciple's Women, Lunch Bunch, Tuesday Morn-ing Book Study Group, and the Being Human group that meets about recovery and spirituality each Wednesday at 6pm. There's also the traditional choir and the worship team. There's lots of ways to get involved.

It's also through the various groups in the church that we form close relationships. The groups in the church keep up with each other and share in the joys and concerns of life. Joining together in fellowship and com-munity is one important way that we love our neighbor, because it's in these groups that we really get to know our neighbor. I want our church to grow because it's such a great place to grow spiritually, and some of the best things happen when we get into fellowship in groups! Onward and Upward! Your Pastor, Dr. D
