6 A- Class Assembly

The Senior school has a tradition of allowing a particular class to make a group presentation on a given Friday. This is particularly to give the students an opportunity to showcase their talents including, selecting suitable themes and programs, organizing and collaborating and coming together to put up a show that both friends and teachers will be proud of.

Class 6 Roja rose to the occasion and came out with flying colours. They selected “Entertainment” as their theme - the entire program was based on popular TV shows. They included News, Songs, commercials, jokes and riddles. The parody of the “Blackberry Boys” commercial was a super hit and won applause from the audience. Well Done Roja!

STUMBLING STONE WORSHIPPED

There was a Tea shop in a small village called Murungapakkam at Pondicherry, and Murugan was

the Shopkeeper who was happily counting his cash everyday. His customers complained everyday

to him, not about the quality of Tea, but it was about a big stone in front of his shop entrance which

hurt almost everyone. Whenever the Customers complained Murugan would sit, upset atleast for

an hour.

One day a cyclist called Ram from the neighbouring village came to the Tea shop and enquired as to

why the Shopkeeper was looking so upset. Murugan said that the Stone in front of the Shop was

spoiling his business. Ram sat for a while and looked at the Stone and asked if the stone could be

loaded on his bicycle carrier. Ram went away with the stone on his bicycle.

Next day Ram came with a statue of Lord Ganesha on his bicycle carrier and crossed the tea shop.

Since the shopkeeper liked the statue at the first sight, he asked Ram if the statue was for sale. Ram

said that the cost of the statue costed Rs.100 and would give it to the Shopkeeper, if he was interested.

The shopkeeper bought the statue for Rs.100.

Ram went home happily and gave his mother Rs.100. Ram's mother enquired how did he got the

money. Ram said, he had taken a stone from the Tea shop and asked a sculptor to make a statue out of

it and paid him Rs.50. He then sold the same stone as a statue to the shopkeeper. Ram said that he

had made a profit of Rs.50 by just seeing shape of God instead of looking at the stone as a stumbling

block.

The Shopkeeper too was happy since the stone had been removed and he was happy offering prayers

to the new Statue of Ganesha.

Let's find out who is SKILLED & SMART, and WHO WAITS FOR PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED and

also think WHY we say so ?

A Reader's Review

The Book's name: The Blue umbrella Author: Ruskin Bond

This story is about Binya, a little girl who loves adventure. She is an ordinary village cowherd who lives on the mountains of Mussoorie. She has a small good luck pendant which is a tiger's claw. She wears it wherever she goes. One day, she is as usual herding the cows early in the morning, when a young woman who has come to tour Mussoorie along with her family suddenly sees the charm that Binya is wearing, and longs to make it her own. So she goes to Binya and asks her if she can have the pendant. Binya thinks and suddenly sees that the lady is holding a pretty blue umbrella. Binya points at the umbrella, gesturing that she is offering to trade her pendant for the umbrella. At this, the lady happily gives her umbrella and takes the charm. And thus begins the exciting adventures of Binya and her “Blue Umbrella”…..

I like this book because, the descriptive style that Ruskin Bond uses brings out life in the mountains. Detailed descriptions of the characters makes them lifelike. Anybody who likes stories with a tinge of Indian flavour will certainly enjoy this story!!!!!

EDITOR’S NOTE

It was an interesting term that went by. Children’s Day came as a big surprise to the kids with almost all the teachers sharing stage space and putting up an entertainment program. Another edition of Dhanur Vaibhav in collaboration with students of Kalakshetra happened. It was nothing short of a celebration of the arts;.A friend said to me that being a teacher was not easy as students these days are very demanding- every class has to be planned with an introduction, a crescendo and a closing- nearly like a Broadway Production. Every class has to be inspiring lest the students get “bored”.Well the students of HSV need look no furthur for inspiration- they have such talented teachers to emulate. Kudos to all the teachers!!The X’mas Carnival was a nice initiative. The parents who helped organize the event had a whale of a time doing so. We are looking forward to putting our heads together for the Talent Day as well!!
