Printed digital wood images provide a preliminary color reference and should not be used for final color selection because they are only as accurate as modern printing technology permits. For the most accurate color representation, view in cool white and U30 lighting. Avoid viewing in sunlight as finish colors will be misrepresented. Keep all paper and wood samples in a dark, climate-controlled environment.

Because wood is a natural material and each unique piece will have its own variations in color, grain structure, and texture, no wood sample will perfectly match your final product. However, actual samples will provide better insights into color, finish fill levels and gloss. Steelcase wood finishes are offered on natural veneers. Natural veneers are ideal for customers who appreciate the intrinsic beauty of wood and the deep, rich patina that will result over time as the wood ages. Mineral streaks, gum pockets, and pin knots are some of the unique characteristics that are visible in natural veneers.

New wood furniture that is installed next to existing furniture may appear lighter, but will mature over time and the color will eventually “catch up” to the existing furniture.

Finish LevelsTwo wood finish levels are available, offering customers a choice of wood finishes suited to their individual needs.

EnvironmentalSteelcase’s proprietary UV TopcoatTM ultra-violet (UV) water-borne finish process is unique to the industry. The water-borne UV TopcoatTM marks a major milestone in the transition Steelcase Wood began back in 2001 to eliminate solvents from the wood furniture finishing processes. Since 2001, Steelcase Wood reduced the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions by 91% reducing hazardous waste by an estimated 85%. With virtually no VOC emissions and the conservation of 700,000 gallons of water each year, the UV TopcoatTM process protects the environment while providing exceptional durability and clarity.

FSC COC CertificationSteelcase Wood harvesting practices are just one of the steps in achieving Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (FSC CoC) certification. Chain of Custody is the path taken by raw materials through processing, manufacturing and distribution. From the time the wood arrives at the Steelcase wood plant, through manufacturing and until it’s loaded for delivery, FSC CoC certification assures customers the product is made responsibly and entirely with certified wood. Steelcase Wood’s primary suppliers are FSC certified. In fact, a majority of the Cherry Steelcase Wood uses in manufacturing is FSC certified. Additional FSC and SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified woods and certified core are also available.

Cradle to CradleSM CertificationIntroduced in 2005, McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) outlines environmentally intelligent design criteria that must be met to obtain Cradle to CradleSM (C2C) product certification. Taking advantage of this opportunity led Steelcase Wood to offer more Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM products than any other company in any industry.

levelTM CertificationMany Steelcase wood products are levelTM certified to the BIFMA e3 sustainability standard. According to BIFMA, the levelTM conformance mark ensures a comprehensive, independent and impartial assessment of the environmental and social impacts of a product’s manufacture. levelTM makes it easy to identify products that have been evaluated against a consensus-based, multi-attribute sustainability standard.

Open pore finish (OP)

Full fill finish (FF)

Open pore finish: Has a medium gloss level and is smooth to the touch, yet the grain of the wood can be felt. It leaves the natural variations in the texture of the wood grain visible to the eye and distinguishable to the touch.

Full fill finish: Has a medium gloss level and the grain pattern is completely filled, providing a satin-smooth look and feel. Full fill is available on horizontal worksurfaces.

The Steelcase Wood finish palette includes five premium species: Ash, Bamboo, Sapele, Anegre and Makore. There is a light to dark range within each species. A selection of premium veneers in this collection is available on most Steelcase brand products. Please refer to finishlibrary.steelcase.com for specific product availability.

The collection includes two price groups, Wood Group 2 and Wood Group 3, and is supported as standard veneers to make ordering easy. Please visit Steelcase Marketing Resources for sample information and finishlibrary.steelcase.com for product line availability. All premium veneers are available in open pore only.

Species specific veneers and solids are available on select casegoods and systems products. In some cases, Steelcase wood may substitute oak solids for species specific solids to achieve a better match between the veneer and solid. Since Bamboo is a grass, oak wood solids are used wherever solids are required.

*Because no stain is used in the clear coat process, all natural color, grain variation, figure and character marks of the veneer are featured. In order to guarantee the customer understands the beautiful uniqueness of natural veneer and solids, a sign-off sheet is required prior to orders being accepted for these finishes. Solids, due to the way they are cut, will not be quartered or figured. This is not reflected in this sample. The sign-off sheet is available through Steelcase Marketing Resources.

There may be variation in color, grain pattern, texture and finish between this sample and the actual product. Please refer to an actual wood sample for color and finish.

Steelcase wood plant is FSC Chain of Custody Certified and can supply FSC veneers if requested and available.

12-year wood veneer warranty.

The collection will be available as close to standard lead-times as possible. However, because adequate supplies of veneer and solids must be secured, all orders will be scheduled individually. Lead-times vary based on premium veneer and premium solids availability at the time the order is placed.

There may be variation in color, texture, and finish between these images and the actual product. Before specifying a finish, a sample should be reviewed.

To reorder, contact your local sales office or your dealer.
