HAPPY THANKSGIVING I wish you and your family a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. As I mentioned in a previous column, November is my favorite month and Thanksgiving is my favorite American Holiday. It is a time for family and friends and a day to give thanks. The famous monk and author, Thomas Merton, once wrote that we always seem to be thinking that our life will be truly happy “when.” We are not satisfied with our current situation because we think we will be happy unless something else occurs. For example, I will be happy when I get that new job, or when I graduate, or when I make the big bucks. Waiting for the ‘when,’ however, keeps us from appreciating what you have ‘now.’ Hoping for a better future is not harmful, as long as it does not overlook the goodness of the present moment. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the blessings God has given you and your loved ones. The blessings you have now. I hope you can take a quiet moment this week to pause and thank God. Perhaps you can even write your own prayer of thanksgiving. I know I have many reasons to be thankful to Almighty God this year and one big reason is all of you. Thank you for your commitment to your faith, to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, and for your generosity that is expressed in so many ways. I promise to remember you and your loved ones in my Mass on Thanksgiving morning and I pray that as a parish family we continue to grow together as Missionary Disciples and share the Joy of the Gospel with all in our community. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! God Bless you and your family, Father Vince
Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

As you have already heard, we have launched our Catholic Strong Campaign here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and we have started to reach out to parishioners. Though I would love to reach out to each parishioner personally, I cannot, which is why I have asked a group of fellow parishioners who have volunteered to assist me with this project. I am grateful for their leadership and dedication on behalf of our parish. I ask that if you hear from one of these members, please return their phone call, meet with them, kindly listen to their presentation, and prayerfully consider supporting this vital undertaking, as it will be a great benefit to our Church. The Catholic Strong Campaign will call upon all parishioners throughout our six counties to take an active and supportive role. It is my sincere hope that each of you will take part in this process by responding to this critical initiative. Your participation is vital to the future of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

The Parish Gospel Challenge / El Desafío del Evangelio Parroquial The Gospel Challenge Continues
We continue our Parish Gospel Challenge as we read and pray through the Gospel of John. John Chapter 10 Reflection Question: Jesus tells you that He is the Good Shepherd. A shepherd loves his sheep and is willing to sacrifice himself for the good of the flock. As a sheep in the flock, you are called to follow and to have faith in the shepherd who is leading you. You are also called to help others who have strayed from the Good Shepherd. How can you lead others to the Good Shepherd? John Chapter 11 Reflection Question: Here, Jesus says that the illness of Lazarus will not “end in death, but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” Remember that God is with you, especially in the dark and difficult moments of life. How has a difficult time in your life awoken your faith and given you the hope that God was with you through it? John Chapter 12 Reflection Question: At the end of this chapter, people are still not believing in Jesus even after all the miracles He has done for them. How has your faith increased over the past two months as you have read through each of the Gospels?
John Chapter 13 Reflection Questions: In this chapter, we see Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. Jesus gives a lesson not in humility, but also in leadership as we care for
those who help us and work with us. How can we apply this lesson of humility and service to our lives now? Who in our lives needs this sign of support and compassion? Whose feet are you being called to wash?
John Chapter 14 Reflection Question: Jesus tells us that He is sending us the “Advocate,” the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is someone you always need to look for in your lives, as He guides you and leads you on the path God has placed us on. Take a few moments after reading this chapter to pray to
Holy Spirit and ask for His guidance in your life.
John Chapter 15 Reflection Questions: As you hear Jesus
say “I am the vine and you are the branches,” He reminds you that you are called through His power to go and bear fruit in our world. How has this challenge helped you to bear more fruit in witnessing to your faith to the world? What else can you do to grow as a disciple and to bear even more fruit in the future?
John Chapter 16 Reflection Questions: Jesus talks about the things to come, and how we as disciples need to grow
each day so that we are prepared for the trials and also the joys we will be encountering. As you look at our life as a follower of Jesus, what areas do you need to grow in? Do you need more faith, more charity, more humility, or more confidence in what the Lord has planned for you?
God Bless you and your Family, Fr. Vince
