From The Pastor’s Desk Happy Mother’s Day! Special prayers today for all mothers living and deceased. May the great Mother of God obtain for our mothers every good grace and blessing.

One week ago, Archbishop Listecki announced his plan for a gradual return to Sunday Mass. The goal is to start a gradual return to the public celebration of the Sunday Mass, beginning on Pente-cost (May 30/31). In order to achieve this goal, it will take everybody’s cooperation and help. To return to Mass safely, there are many considerations that must be addressed and many precau-tions that must be taken. One important fact cannot be stressed enough: When we return to Mass, things will be different!

Our parish plan to gradually return to Mass is being formulated, and preparations are being made. Details of the plan will be communicated in the days and weeks to come. To repeat, things will be different. We will likely have an adjusted Mass schedule. There will be strict capacity controls on the number of people that can attend any single Mass, social distancing guidelines will be encour-aged, enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices will be implemented, and the liturgical practices will be adjusted accordingly.

Many people look forward to returning to Mass, but you should only do so if you are confident in your own health and the health of those with whom you live. Please follow the advice of your physi-cian. All the faithful are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass through July 5, 2020. Again, the Archbishop is intending this to be a gradual return.

In order to have the chance to return to Mass and the reception of Holy Communion, we need your help. Please consider helping in these areas if you are able to:

With an adjusted and expanded Mass schedule, we will need ushers and hospitality ministers to assist at each Mass. If you are capable of serving in this capacity, please contact Terry Piontkowski at [email protected] so that you can be included in a pool of volunteers. These volunteers will receive further information and the chance to be placed on a schedule when it is created.

We are also required to clean the church after every Mass. Would you be willing and able to assist our parish staff in this effort? If so, please contact Kathy Jaeckels at 414-421-2442,

X-209 or [email protected]. You can also call the parish office at 414-421-2442.

If we cannot get a sufficient number of volunteers to assist the staff in this extraordinary effort, we would sadly be unable to have public Masses. We need your help! If you are healthy and willing, please step forward to assist St. Alphonsus Parish.

Most importantly, please pray for an end to the virus and for healing for all those who are ill and for a renewal of our economy. Many of our friends, family members and neighbors are suffering in one way or another. And, please stay tuned to livestreamed Masses and the parish website for more important information that will be forthcoming.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

-Fr. Aaron Esch

Auction Raffle Drawings Rescheduled To Sept4ember 13, 2020

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the parish Auction raffle has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 13, 2020, after the 11:00 a.m. Mass in the Community Room. If you have not yet turned in your tickets, please do so before September 13.

The cash raffle, Winner’s Circle and chocolate basket raffle winners will be drawn at this resched-uled date and time. All tickets that have already been turned in will be automatically entered in the drawings.

If you have not yet purchased your raffle tickets, it’s not too late! They will be available at the Auc-tion table in the Gathering Space during weekend Masses this summer. You can also pick up raffle tickets at the parish office when it has reopened.

Completed tickets and payments may be mailed to the parish office, put in the collection baskets (when Mass is in session), or dropped off at the Auction table in the Gathering Space during week-end Masses this summer.

If you have any questions, please contact Doris Jome at 414-529-4739 or Sue Ruedinger at 414-731-0537. Thank you for your support!

Communion Pyx If you have a Communion Pyx at home, we are asking that you drop it off at church so we can clean them before we return to church services. There will be a Communion basket marked “PYX FOR CLEANING” at the back of church where you would normally place a pyx. The church is open daily 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for prayer.

Live Stream Mass Ministry We are looking for six people to learn the set up for live streaming the Sunday Mass. There are a lot of technical people in our congregation, and we would like to add this ministry to Sun-day’s Mass at 10:00 a.m. Once we return back to church with the assembly, the live stream liturgy will take place at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. We are always open to new ideas to help im-prove and update our church equipment. Email [email protected], for more information.

Volunteers Needed We are excited for the possibility of returning to public Mass on Pentecost Weekend, May 30 and 31. It is going to take a lot of parish volun-teers to help make this possible. We especially need help in the area of disinfecting the church after each Mass weekly.

This would entail wiping down all the pews and Altar furniture. The parish will supply gloves and disinfectant. We are also hoping to supply masks upon availability. This type of cleaning will need to be done until we return to the regu-lar Mass schedule.

We have one month to put all of this into place, and your help is most appreciated and needed. If you are able to help at one Mass each week-end, please email Terry at the parish office at [email protected], or Kathy Jaeckels at [email protected]. to be placed on the helper’s list.

May God bless our parish family, as we come together to make everyone feel safe when com-ing to church. -Terry, Director of Liturgy and Music

2020-2021 Operating Budget The Finance Council, along with parish and school staff, spent a great deal of time over the winter and early spring developing the operating budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year (July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021).

With the recent disruption in the operations of the parish and school, we are blessed that we were able to complete the process and develop a balanced budget for the coming year. However, we recognize that our work is not done, as we now judiciously monitor our income and expenses during this difficult time and determine what the “new normal” will be once we are allowed to come together again.

While the budget being presented here is based on our plans for next year, we know that these may need to change, as we operate in the new fiscal year, beginning July 1. Thank you for doing your part in submitting your annual pledge card and for remaining committed to the mission and minis-try of St. Alphonsus Parish.

The accompanying pie charts show the breakdown of projected income by major category and projected expenses by department. A complete budget summary will be presented to the Pastoral Council at an upcoming meet-ing. This summary will then be published on the Finance Council page of the parish website (www.st-alphonsus.org) and on the bulletin board in the Gathering Space.

Within each budget area, we want to ensure you that your gifts are being used efficiently and effectively to reach the goals of the St. Alphonsus Parish community. We are constantly looking for ways to cut costs, but especially in this time of crisis. Please be assured that we appreciate all of your support, both financially and in prayer. We are blessed to have a financially sound parish, and we will continue in our work to maintain a strong parish community and generous outreach programs.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or 421-2442, x209.

God bless, -Kathy Jaeckels Director of Finance

RCIA News: A Virtual Celebration These Sundays of “sheltering in place,” St. Al’s RCIA group meets via Zoom video conferencing, after the live-streamed Sunday Mass. On May 3, we were delighted to have Father Aaron join us. During our virtual gathering, Fr. Aaron led us in cele-brating The Rite of Election/Call to Continuing Conversion for our RCIA candidate, Denise Kunz. This ceremony formally acknowledged Denise’s journey to be

received into full Communion with the Catholic Church and her reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. Due to current restrictions, a date has not yet been set. Please continue to support Denise and all the adult, youth, and child candidates waiting for the Initiation Sacraments by your prayers and good example.
